BlackBerry DTEK50 gets a home town discount from Amazon Canada

The Alcatel Idol 4 is a serviceable mid-range handset. Brand it with the BlackBerry name, make some modifications, and you have the BlackBerry DTEK50. The handset features a 5.2-inch LCD screen with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The Snapdragon 617 SoC under the hood, carries an octa-core 1.7 GHz CPU with the Adreno 405 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 16GB of native storage (10GB available to the user). A 2TB capacity microSD slot is available to those seeking additional storage.

While a 13MP camera adorns the back, an 8MP wide angle selfie snapper graces the front of the unit. Keeping the lights on is a 2610mAh battery, and Android 6.0 is pre-installed. This is no one's idea of a high-end model to be sure. The next such designated BlackBerry, rumored to be the BlackBerry Mercury, could be the last phone designed in-house by BlackBerry. Images alleged to show the phone and its physical QWERTY keyboard surfaced yesterday.

For those who feel that they can get by with the DTEK50 and its virtual keyboard, Amazon Canada has a special home-town discount on the phone. Normally priced at $429 CAD ($322 USD), the online retailer is offering the DTEK50 for 33% off which takes the price down to $289 CAD ($217 USD). The unlocked smartphone will ship directly from Amazon Canada in three to five days. If interested, click on the sourcelink.
