BlackBerry CEO John Chen responds to Google and Samsung's plan to use KNOX on the Android platform
0. phoneArena 04 Jul 2014, 11:26 posted on
Samsung's decision to allow secure container Samsung KNOX to be used throughout the entire Android platform, is expected to help users in the enterprise feel confident with Android. The OS has been the target of the vast majority of malware strikes, according to data from security firms. KNOX is Samsung's sandbox, or container, that offers a secure browser, SMS app, contacts list, calendar and other business apps...

Because they still have potential and Chen is a great leader who won't abandon the ship so easily.
5. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 4167; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)
They had potential but they lost it by delaying BB10.
12. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
looks amazing doesn't sell... see how bb z10, q10 and playbook ended up.
46. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
It seems that BB10 is selling. Look at the Z3 in your own country of Indonesia.
11. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
they DID NOT delay bb10.
bb10 was not ready at that time, and still not ready for prime time.
They just don't have any thing other than big mouth.
36. tatail (Posts: 225; Member since: 08 Jan 2010)
All I see is that your mouth is 100 times bigger than JC cause you are at it all time. And with all your trolling you are proving it.
47. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
BB10 is so far ahead of some other OS's that it's pathetic. The only OS that can match it feature-wise and power-wise is Android.
The only big mouth here, spewing rhetorical nonsense I might add, is YOU, Wahy.
134. panjgoori (Posts: 22; Member since: 17 Nov 2012)
its ready and also better than all other OS around.
135. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
So why it doesn't sell well?? Why BB is not in the top 10 anymore?
22. BobbyDigital (Posts: 610; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Sadly you'll always be a troll Mxy. Why don't you stick to commenting on articles about CR@pple, iZombie.
45. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
They lost nothing in terms of potential. BB10 is light years ahead of your beloved iOS, Mxy.
89. verty (Posts: 114; Member since: 07 May 2012)
Always so dumb. You are just so predictable!!!!
9. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Because some canadian tycon got sentimental and put his money where's his sentiment were...
correction... he didn't put his money... he put the money that were trusted to him to where's his sentiment were.
48. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
You mad, bro? Feeling butthurt that not is BlackBerry still around, but they're improving as well? Too bad for you.
44. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
BlackBerry is still around because they can compete and innovate where no one else in mobile seems to be able, and that's ENTERPRISE. As a matter of fact, it's not even a competition for BlackBerry in enterprise. They DOMINATE the space. Any more questions, fanboy1974?
16. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
It seems to me that Chen fight like a girl... a highschool girl
50. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
And you would know what a high school girl fights like, being that you are one, Wahy.
32. tatail (Posts: 225; Member since: 08 Jan 2010)
So why are you reading an article about him and his company?
49. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
And what sh!t would that be? Is there a problem with someone defending the company they run? Were this the guys in charge of Google or Tim Cook defending Apple, you'd have nothing to say.
4. N3Z1droid (Posts: 89; Member since: 02 Jan 2014)
Look at his comment towards Google & Samsung its just make me lost sympathy again to Blackberry. He is the CEO at least find antoher feature on BB OS to fight Android. Not say BS.
10. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Yea...this sound like someone thats threatened, worried.
If BB is more secure, then let the results speak for themselves. Its not like companies can switch to Android and not switch back to BB.
And...in Android land Motorola can be touted for security somewhat. Its not like only BB can do it.
13. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
JC realize if companies switch to bb, it WILL NOT switch back to bb. That's why he bark like a mad dog.
53. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Do you even know what you just wrote, Wahy? Read it back to yourself, then get back to me when you learn how to type correctly.
52. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
You sound ridiculous. How does it sound like he's worried? By pointing out facts? BlackBerry is more SECURE than the others out here. THATS FACT. And while there may be others that can CLAIM to do security well, NOBODY does it better than BlackBerry.
61. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
He sounds like he's worried because it wasnt a question that was posed to him....
Why comment on something, say it like that if a direct question wasnt even asked?
66. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
He doesn't sound worried at all. He's stating FACT.
78. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
So what? There are people in other companies that mention things all the time that no one asked them. I've even seen YOU bring up BlackBerry in WP related articles, and BlackBerry wasn't even MENTIONED in the article. Your "point" has no merit here. Unless you want to include others, YOURSELF included.
128. jroc74 (Posts: 5192; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Whose the CEO of a major company?
Who made the comment without anyone actually asking the question?
Who threw in that extra line that really wasnt necessary?
Wrap your head around this....if it was an interview....I woulda said....dems fighting words there.... and actually praised him....He's coming off as worried. Because no one asked him directly about the Samsung, Google KNOX thing.
To try to bring attention to something you company is supposed to be the leaders in with no one even asking a question about it. and no other company said anything about your company....is worried.
Trying to compare me and him posting is apples to oranges. Seriously dude. And actually the more you post...the more fanatical you seem.....
132. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
And the more you post, the more you seem like a trolling spermdroid. It doesn't make a difference if someone asked him a question or not.
Yes, he's the CEO of a major company and you're not. And?...
He actually PRAISED Samsung and Google for what they are trying to do, or did you miss that part?
All Chen did was advertise for his company. What's WRONG with that? EVERYONE advertises for their company when the chance presents itself. That's not worried. That's GOOD ADVERTISING and seizing an opportunity. That's just GOOD BUSINESS.
So who's the one blowing things out of proportion?
136. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Good one.... apparently bb (the company) love to fight for the wrong cause... remember the T-Mo vs. bb, and bb were beaten so hard, that JC really humiliated in big way... I think this Knox vs. BB will make JC humiliated the second time....
Just like a couple years ago when bb leader commenting that no one will buy iphone, and will buy bb...
87. tatail (Posts: 225; Member since: 08 Jan 2010)
He is actually stating a fact, but why is he doing it.
So over the past couple of years everyone was saying no one cares about security but BlackBerry did and are still doing. So, now the situation has changed with Google trying to make its OS secure, gives BlackBerry opportunity to tell people that "Look we have been doing this all this long."
This is something direct corporates and and consumers.
He is just taking advantage of Google/Samsung deal, but he definitely is not bashing any company or worried about their Security instead he is advertising BlackBerry's security.
88. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Indeed! Great response, tatail. John Chen is just taking the time to talk up BlackBerry's security features. Nothing wrong with that.
93. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
JC is worried because he scared the power of Google.. He scared that Knox+Google will make bb die, and that make him bark like a mad dog.
BTW, I found it amazing that when JC trolled Google, and got answered by non-bb user, the bb user will bark like a mad dog.
102. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
You're the one that barks like a mad dog EVERY TIME there is an article posted about BlackBerry, Wahy. The fact that you attempt to ignore me because I keep smacking down your lies with FACTS only underscores the point of you being a TROLL. Most TROLLS don't have a response when presented with FACTS. Knox is a JOKE. Major institutions know it, that's why they are NOT ADOPTING IT. Adding Google to the mix WILL NOT CHANGE THIS FACT.
You're so pathetic, Wahy. Get a LIFE, already.
14. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Do you any idea or suggestion??? No?? me too...
There is nothing on bb can be use to fight android. NOTHING!! BB has nothing!! Only BS left...
54. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
If BlackBerry has nothing left, then how come their latest ER was good? How come their stock is up so much?
It's obvious that you're just a scared little troll, afraid of BlackBerry doing so well. Time to be afraid, Wahy.
51. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
Have you ever used BB10, N3Z1droid? I doubt it, because if you did, you wouldn't even make such a comment. BB10 has plenty of features to toe to toe with ANY OS out here.
70. N3Z1droid (Posts: 89; Member since: 02 Jan 2014)
Buy Z10 at March '13 about $ 700 unlock replace my BB Storm 2. Oh yeah the OS really smooth, what i regret buy it with cost $ 700 the apps not different from OS 7. Wait for half year nothing improve from BB World. Then only in half year the phone price drop to $ 400 falling down like garbage! Replace it soon as posibble with Xperia Z1 at Nov 13.
77. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
The apps are no different than OS 7? What? Have you really used BlackBerry World? The video store? The music store? There are hundreds of apps there that OS7 DOES NOT EVEN HAVE. And the downloading of Android APK's? The sideloading of Android apps? Since its INCEPTION? If you didn't like the apps in BlackBerry World, there were alternatives. EASY ones at that.
80. N3Z1droid (Posts: 89; Member since: 02 Jan 2014)
When do you first use BB10? Just recently? Of course now BB 10 have more apps and NOT all Android Apk's can run with BB10. Yup easy like that, another overprice smart phone.
85. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
I purchased a Z10 when it was FIRST RELEASED. It was easy to sideload then, and the downloading of APK's make it even easier now. And BlackBerry runs 98% OF ALL ANDROID APPS. So YUP, EASY LIKE THAT.
94. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
Some bb addict think bb is the best, and can't accept the about why bb can't sell very well. I live in Indonesia, where almost half of my co-worker used bb in the past. One by one move to android, and the one that left using bb right now is the one that were in lower management. I know the strength of bb (was), but when i told this story, I was labeled as troll by bb addict in PA.
107. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
You are a TROLL. And a SPERMDROID. You make Android fans look BAD. And you live in Indonesia, where BlackBerry just won some awards, one of them TOP BRAND IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY.
How can you constantly LIE about BlackBerry not doing well in your home country, when their was even article FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRIES NEWS OUTLET that says otherwise?
"According to data released on Thursday, 48 percent of smartphone users in the country chose BlackBerry as their top brand while 34 percent of them chose Blackberry as their favorite brand, kontan.co.id reported.
The data also showed that 79 percent of Indonesian smartphone users used the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) application for chatting while the rest were using Whatsapp and LINE."
That's a QUOTE from the Jakarta Post, a news outlet in Indonesia, YOUR HOME CONTRY. Here is the full link:
You CONSTANTLY LIE about BlackBerry and make up imaginary stats, and I CONSTANTLY PROVE YOU WRONG. Give it up, already. WE ARE ALL WISE TO YOUR LIES.
109. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
I constantly held my self against answering your post just because you were a kid/childish, and using falls stat. You can only be categorize as troll (from the tone of your answer), and unintelligent (sorry to say that)
As in the number, I can find another article that saying bb is THE SIXTH biggest brand in Indonesia (harianti.com/smartfren-andromax-ponsel-terlaris-kedua-setelah-samsung-di-indonesia-kalahkan-blackberry/) and sold 300K bb in Q3 2013, number 1 is samsung with more than 1 million phone.
That's mean your stat already wrong, bb can't be more than 10%. That's why I don't want to argue with you, because it would be my words against your words. I live in Indonesia, I know store that mainly sell bb and nokia were closing here and there and changing into samsung store or android store. i know the situation in here, but you claimed you were smarter than me just because you can find some article that support your claim.
I know web is spinning because number can be make to support some statement if it's look from some angle... I know some company can pay some journalist or blogger just to agree with them. If you really want more honest number, you can see the BBRY financial report, but then again... you will spin the number...
HERE, I give you a graph...
BB really not doing well... BB can't cheat this graph, that's why statcounter graph is BETTER than any of your supporting article.
118. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
You held yourself against answering my posts because you know I expose your lies. And I have already DISPROVED your Statcounter graph.
Your lies just DON'T stand up to my FACTS.
You can spin it any way you want, but you're just a LYING TROLL with BAD ENGLISH. And a child at that.
120. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
NO ONE that uses a BlackBerry here on PA gives a rat's sh!tty behind what you think. We all know that the "information" you claim to be giving about BlackBerry is FALSE. The stats that you bring up are IRRELEVANT, being that they are from 2013 and we are in the MIDDLE OF 2014. Even other Android fans don't agree with you, as you are ALWAYS TROLLING BlackBerry or WP related articles. If you're such an Android fan that you claim to be, how come you NEVER POST on Android articles UNLESS they mention the words BLACKBERRY OR WINDOWS PHONE? You are the very DEFINITION OF TROLL. If you don't like BlackBerry so much, MOVE ON. DON'T STOP. YOUR OPINION DOESN'T MEAN SH!T TO US.
You CONSTANTLY spin FACT INTO LIE, and expect us to listen to you? No, we would rather PROVE YOU TO BE THE LIAR THAT YOU ARE. You're a little kid throwing a tantrum because something you don't like is well.
You claim you know the situation in your homeland of Indonesia, and yet you DENY FACTS printed by your own NEWS OUTLETS. I have, time and time again, listed FACTS here to counter your LIES, and STILL you go on. Like this graph from Statcounter, for instance: I ALREADY debunked this "fact" of yours, as people in emerging markets don't use the WEB BROWSER on BBOS7 devices nearly as much as other devices. They use APPS. ITS NOT THE SAME THING. Statcounter only gets their information from WEB TRAFFIC, therefore the information on this graph about BlackBerry is NOT ACCURATE.
You can spin it any way you like, but what I'm saying holds TRUE:
BlackBerry is doing MUCH BETTER NOW, and you CANNOT stand it as you were proven WRONG ABOUT BLACKBERRY.
You said that BlackBerry is going BANKRUPT, but YET THEY GREW CASH FROM THE PREVIOUS TO THIS ONE. That's definitely NOT the sign of a company going bankrupt.
You think if you repeat the same rhetorical BS that we BlackBerry fans will stop to listen, but WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.
You are a TROLL, plain and simple.
111. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
BTW, your link is a TOTAL JOKE..
first the article in jakarta post say IT IS BASED ON SURVEY... no real data, then it said it got the link from knotan.co.id, but when the link clicked, no article... That's why I said... That you can use any article to support your theory. But that doesn't change the FACT that bb is considered RUBISH in Indonesia. My link state the DATA FROM SALES REPORT!!! REAL NUMBER, your's just from survey in some BB addict area, probably in poor area.
119. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
That was a survey based on people who USE THE DEVICES. Your stats are based on info from AT LEAST A YEAR AGO. Try and stay RELEVANT.
121. meanestgenius (Posts: 2223; Member since: 28 May 2014)
And your link is NOT DATA FROM A SALES REPORT. It's data from WEB TRAFFIC. And it's OLD AT THAT. The data I provided is from THIS YEAR, AND THIS QUARTER.
The only "poor" area here is YOUR ENGLISH. You need to IMPROVE on it if you want to be able to debate with any confidence.
7. jellmoo (Posts: 704; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
At the moment he is spot on. I hope that Google is able to take Knox and make it a viable part of Android for the enterprise, because thus far Samsung has done an abysmal job with it. Blackberry remains the gold standard when it comes to enterprise security, and Chen should be touting this fact.
15. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
JC will be surprised that what Google and Samsung did in a couple of years can SURPASS what bb did in 30 years. After all, bb innovate at turtle speed, and Google innovate at cheetah speed.
28. jellmoo (Posts: 704; Member since: 31 Oct 2011)
Google is great at making consumer products and implementing ads and traffic solutions. At enterprise they have had some success, but it isn't their big strength. Starting with a product as terrible as Knox, it's an uphill battle.
BB may be slow when it comes to consumer software solutions, but in enterprise they have innovated quite well.
137. WahyuWisnu (Posts: 1001; Member since: 29 May 2014)
This kind of backward thinking is what make bb down in the first place. If you remember bb were so proud of their business solution QWERTY-thumbboard + BBM + secure and think that no one will buy apple because there were no QWERTY thumb board and not secure, and also BBM is the golden standard (I don't think BBM is the golden standard, it just another messaging platform), but it turn out one by one business/enterprise leaving bb, and thus the dynamic duo of bb (lazardis & basile) is oust.
BB is not the best anymore in security / enterprise solution, welcome to the new world.
33. tatail (Posts: 225; Member since: 08 Jan 2010)
And a turtle lives up to 200+ years and a cheetah only live up to 20 years. Guess BlackBerry really is turtle, slow, steady, but constant and not giving up.
BlackBerry the Turtle.
