BlackBerry Bold 9930 and BlackBerry Torch 9850 heading to Sprint later this year

0. phoneArena posted on 03 Aug 2011, 13:26

The nation's third largest carrier will be getting a pair of BlackBerry 7 OS devices for the fall, the much anticipated BlackBerry Bold 9930 and the all-touchscreen BlackBerry Torch 9850; Sprint says it will reveal pricing and availability later this year as it gets closer to launch the pair...

By not offering the 9850 to verizon I really do think blackberry dropped the ball on this one

And by not offering the Torch slider edition (9810/9830 in CDMA) on VZW or Sprint, I think RIM further dropped the ball. It is looking like same-old, same-old at RIM.

I wonder how many former 'Berry owners will bail to iOS and Android in the 4Q2011 period? Nokia and RIM seem to be doing a bang-up job of contributing to the market share growth of Android and iOS.

Agree totally D-X-D (How do you like your EVO by the way?) and @paulyyd. Do not think Blackberry can afford to be picky, mainly due to how long they waited on this. They needed all four device types (I am counting the less hyped but very critical Curve as well) on as many carriers as they can get them on. Considering how strong the Blackberry name still is, they probably could have had all four, or at least the top three carriers on board if they pushed. How many sales will they lose? Already missed half the Summer season.

"How do you like your EVO by the way?"

My only complaint is the spotty WiMax network. But since VZW's LTE has problems with in-building coverage, for me, WiMax and LTE are basically not differentiators. The 3D capability is a great conversation starter.... ;-)

verizon never announced anything yet about the new phones. Waiting...

Maybe there hasn't been a 'Berry announcement from VZW because VZW got burned the last time around and would rather focus on growing their subscriber base with Android and iOS?

well it's stupid if they don't cuz there are a lot of users still on vzw that use BB. If they don't release the new devices. im going to ATT as well as a lot of other BB users

I see Sprint and Blackberry have a better relationship then VZW
i just hope those phones would come down to the preapaid level and be offered by Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile

Both phones will be released on (or around) August 21st, 2011.

I called Sprint's Employee # (the old SERO support #, 888-876-8381) this evening, and a customer rep stated that both phones are on the internal "watch list" for delivery on August 21st. The rep had to search for about 5-7mins, but he was able to locate the information with some digging.

This date has been communicated before on PA.com and other sites. Let us check back in a few weeks and see what becomes of this tentative date. Looking forward to activating my new Bold Touch on the Sprint network!!!!

If pricing is honestly that expensive, BlackBerry has definitely dropped the ball on this one. I'm a BB fan so it won't stop me, but no one is gonna switch back from their iPhone to try out BB again if it's gonna cost them an arm and a leg. No phones should be over $200 these days. Especially $300....AFTER rebate. That's insane! If you really want a comeback you price this at $199.99.

What happened to the 8/21/11 release date on the "roadmap" that was posted a few days ago???

RIM drop the ball making it 250 dollar. Only the Verizon LTE phone are that expensive. Who in there right mind at sprint will paid 250 dollar for a that phone when the Photon and Evo 3D is only 200? The hero 4g would only be like a 100 dollar and it has the same spec. Bad move RIM

15. asears08 posted on 05 Aug 2011, 18:11

The phone will be $199.

Im just hoping that it still comes out on the rumored date of Aug 21st. If it is out any later than that it is going to get ignored. Especially if Sprint gets the iPhone.
