I'm ashame to say this rumor but when I talked to one of the policemen there, the main reason as to why most people are so desperate about owning one with half the price is because they were tempted to resell the product at full price...
Cellphones here dont usually get bundled into contract with providers in a contract to get lower price, but sold pretty much unlocked and full price...
I dindt wait in line to get one, just so happen that i was on my way to work and the disaster was still going, its like a riot with so many policemen and securities...

based on your comment I can conclude that there's a lot of people buying the BB phone full price, right??? In other words if the people got desperate it was because they know they can profit out of it!!! that means... the BB is very popular! just like this article said.
So, If you tried to make readers to think nobody cares about BB (just the money), you got exactly the opposite... regards!!!

Ocean02 has the right to post his comment. He did not mention anything bad here. So why are you calling him sheep and troll. I thing if he mention Nexus prime then you will give him a thumb up. You have the right to support any OS or manufacture as you like. But do not hate or criticise others comment in a wrong manner.

It could have never been an iPhone. Apple is a greedy pig. They would never sell their phones even a bit cheaper and you are thinking about apple giving away iphones for 50% off. LOL

Intriguing but that wouldn't happen anytime soon though, for the sole reason that the iPhone 4/4s is so damn pricey here in South East Asia, when you buy them straight from the apple store. . . Here in the Philippines the pre-order price of the iPhone 4s is $ 1,679.47 in the present monetary conversion. How much more in Indonesia. . .

doesnt matter if some of them are reselling the product but thats how ubiquitous bb is in Jakarta (but i believe most are getting one for personal use). back when nokia was king, it was even crazier- people were paying more than the post-launch normal price...$1,000 launch price for a nokia communicator and sold out like hotcakes... iphone ? almost non-existent albeit its picking up a bit. the queue beats that of iphone in the US by a mile (literally)...

at least they announce how many would be sold at 50% off! here in the philippines, lg did not mention that only 10 units were to be sold at discount price during the launch of one of their touchscreen phone, a lot of people stand in line for hours and almost the same thing happen. lg did not even apologize.

Long time reader, only now i'm being forced to register to be able to comment... LoL

Well, whaddya know, here BB (we luv abbreviation =D) is what iphone to you out there. Stupid silly overpriced (for what it does) handsets which only used by "businessmen" outside Indonesia are being consumed by almost every single person here, kiddies and grandmas included.

The "get connected" euphoria that does not happened everywhere else in this planet. It's their easy ticket to internet and social networks, literally. An instant society which need instant gratification, instant medication to internet illiteracy.

So there, i'm not being very proud at all. But currently i spent most my time now educating my friends that there are 'options', better ones for the dough they spenton gadgets. Not iDevices of course because they are still niche-player here, as they originally should be. Right? Gotta convert lemmings to humans, wish me luck.

All of this... For a Blackberry? And a low-end one at that.

Better enjoy this RIM because its one of the last times it may ever happen.

My guess is Indonesia has never heard of iphone or android. That is the only logical reason to be this excited over a blackberry.

I am a very high user for both the ipad2 and the android software here in Indonesia, I do not agree entirely regarding your opinion, since smartphones cannot be used fully up to 90% without the high speed data plan given by the providers of each country backing up all of its apps. Blackberries are in high demand here because of the non stop internet connectivity since all of the local providers here are in contract in using RIM's BBM service. just to let you know that we dont have 4G, WIMAX nor LTE, heck, we still barely have 3g only in big cities at a limited area. people know about android and IOS, but they wont buy it cuz they have limited data plan by local provider.

No iPhones and Android phones are existent there, but due to their economy BB phones are the best alternative in experiencing the smartphone craze.

@downphoenix, you obviously never been to Indonesia.
Samsung Galaxy Series and Sony-Ericsson Xperia series are selling well in Indonesia (especially the Galaxy Mini and other sub US$200 phones).
but, the canadian's Blackberry was here first,
so the Indonesian people are more familiar with the Blackberry and its BBM than the other smartphones.

we HEARD about the iphone and the majestic iOS and all...also we heard about Android and the openness and all

please... just because people get in line to get blackberry doesnt mean the majority of the people use them..i am an android user, i have droid 2. Just for you know Samsung, HTC, and LG has big reputation here for their android devices
