Benchmark comparison: Galaxy S4 vs Galaxy S III vs Note 2 vs Optimus G Pro vs Nexus 4 vs HTC One

0. phoneArena 04 Apr 2013, 09:37 posted on

What could be more exciting than a benchmark comparison starring six of the best smartphones in the world?! Well, a lot of things, probably... but NOT when one of these smartphones is the one and only Galaxy S4! It's not really a secret that the GS4 is an amazing performer when it comes to benchmarks, but hey, it never hurts to give some perspective to its scores by comparing it to more and more Android smartphones. That's exactly what we've done here, so behold – the Galaxy S4 torches those benchmarks alongside the GS III, Note 2, Optimus G Pro, Nexus 4, and its biggest rival, the HTC One...

Really? All of them? Phone Arena made it seem pretty equal, with slight edge for the S4. Honestly "best" is extremely subjective, no matter who or how many people say.

"Phone Arena made it seem pretty equal, with slight edge for the S4"
"slight edge" still means having the upper hand.

GSMArena's in-depth comparison says it clearly.

Yeah, having the upper hand depending on what you value in a phone. I'm just trying to be objective. Yet, if I don't say the S4 IS THE BEST, I get shot down. I value heavier, unibody construction and loud speakers, so the One maybe a better choice for me. That doesn't mean either the One or the S4 are the best phone. I don't take others' opinions as fact, like most people do if a review favors their preferred handset.

Hmm, I read the conclusion of that article and it says while the S4 best the One is various departments, they can't call one an outright loser. And with the enhancements made to the One's camera software, I wouldn't give the S4 a huge advantage on camera. Idk how that article did anything to prove your point. If anything it proved mine about personal preference being ultimate.

Sure, it all depends on your needs since they both perform on nearly the same level. If you have read my comments before, I've never ever said that the HTC One is a bad/crappy/loser phone unlike some of the HTC fanboys who troll each and every Samsung articles(bojan, amiroo, chocolaking & co). It's just that the GSIV is a better phone overall and you can't deny that.

even if the S4 is not the better phone, it's at least on par with the HTC One. that alone will keep Samsung head and shoulders above HTC when it comes to sales, among other things. I repeat, Samsung has marketed to the hilt for the past four years, and now they have an almost insurmountable lead in the android market. Hell, the S2 is getting the Jellybean update! how many HTC phones from that time frame are getting that??? ***drops the mike***

You accuse others of being biased yet you made a huge list of things that are better on the SIV and only three things the One has on its favor? Do me a favor and go read Anandtech's review of the One, while you are totally right on some points other points are just nitpicking, better CPU/GPU marginal diference in day to day use, the One videos i have seen the device had clearly no lags or delay on the UI, and the S IV looks like it also has no lags or delays and they do use the same SOC on most markets in which the Galaxy has the advantage of the overclock which helps it a lot on benchmarks. All in all they are two beasts of phones and users will be quite happy with either of the devices, but this is down to personal preference more than anything as the hardware is almost identical performance wise.

I agree. GS4 may have had higher score in some cases. However, there are 2 benchmarks that were not performed here: Touch/Feel/Quality benchmark and Beauty/Style/Design benchmark, of which the HTC One is the clear winner.
(Yes I made those benchmarks up, and Yes I will be buying an HTC based on its aluminum design)

first of all, i have an xperia before, now holding note2 and a nokiaPV,, but i must say that im more a samsung fan for what they did in s2, s3 and note devices, samsung did amazing pushing hardware and software limits to make android revolutionary.. thanks to them for making other manufacturers do the same to bring great devices so I DONT HATE THEM and THE OTHER COMPANY..

second> im defending S4 no for foolish reasons,, im just sick w/ those kind of people like you who doesnt know how to deal w/ reviews openmindedly and bashing the device that beats their competitor devices> STANDING W/ D FACTS is more of a reasonable means of defending one device than TROLLING, BASHING AND STATING DIFFERENT EXCUSES and LIES TO MAKE THEIR DEVICE come on top even not as the review is saying..

THIRD Did u read my comment, it is not just about PROCESSING POWER..

HTC One is a very beautiful and great device that gave me some headaches on what to get s4/one,, but based on reviews, as far as getting more things from ur money, S4 managed to beat them and stole my choice..

design>XZ ONE S4, s4 has d least appealing back panel, but when i see the front side, it appeals d most for me..

and for the MAIN EXCUSE of everyone> cheap plastic: no its not, polycarbonate is better than aluminum, and accdg to the early drop test, htc one has to be a flagship poorly built.. ip5 entire aluminum construction is stronger than One's..

What are you talking about? Samsung actually offers the best HARDWARE available! Exynos 5 Octa, DDR3.. Build material and hardware are two different things! Also I'd take polycarbonate over aluminium any day! Have you seen the drop test of the HTC One yet? "Premium", isn't it?

first Exynos 5 octa is not the best, and aluminium is feels and looks more premium than polycarbonate
there is a difference between the premium and durable

So you buy your phone just to feel its premium..?? Other thing doesn't matter to you? .. The airview without s-pen is my best feature.. I really miss the hover function when visiting websites that require mouse hovering action.. Bigger screen in smaller body is great.. I don't know what extra can aluminum give you.. Don't you think aluminum looks cheaper after few months of use..

when i want to buy a premium device, the device must have premium look and feel, with the best hardware.
Just like my casio and Patek Philippe
casio maybe have better feature and more durable but patek philippe is more premium.
That hovering things you like Sony xperia sola is the first and Sony Xperia ZL is the best phone to screen ratio.
Until this day i never have aluminium phone but my 1,5 years old STAINLESS STEEL nokia E6-00 is still looks more premium than my GALAXY S2

yeah xperia Sola has that first, but what it offers? almost nothing,, and that's innovation made by samsung, expanding new ideas from something not big before..

ok enuf for this premium thing, we all have our choices..

i am not saying innovations is only with hardware
he say samsung doing innovation to that hovering things i am not agree with that its just software update/upgrade the ideas is still the same ''The technology
makes it possible for the smartphone to detect a
finger up to 0.79 inches (20mm) above the screen''
since you saying i doesn't know anything about technology please show me that samsung doing some innovation with that hovering tech some patent will be great
with software update xperia sola can have the same feature like note 2 or S4
but without the screen technology you can't have that feature

at first xperia sola floating touch technology limited to live
wallpapers and the browser, but after ics update the entire user interface
could be controlled by hovering in combination with
floating touch. + glove mode
there is no innovation or new ideas by samsung they just simply copying that technology

i have had three HTC phones, and love the way they look and feel, and that played a lot into why I bought them. however, in real world use, they have been a disappointment to me, especially with regards to battery life. I case my phones, and i drop mines once every blue moon, but the thunderbolt surely would have broken into several pieces without a case on one particular drop. I'm going "plastic" this coming July.

Nope... today, all smartphones processors have evolved to an extent that graphics are ultra smooth (thanks to JB Pro.Butt. too). If we further increase the processing power we wont able to tell the difference and get diminishing return in terms of battery.

Exactly what a stupid comment, this just shows how phonearena is biased about reviews and showing the actual possibility and potentiality of its competitors, accordingly when compared with the Xperia Z, and the S4, the S4 did slightly better, for instance the Antutu Benchmark had a rating of 21,000 vs S4's 23XXX and Quadrant's benchmark of 8873 vs S4's 12132, Considering these benchmarks I find to see the Z is comparasively fast!
