Belgium and Turkey terror attacks: Google makes Hangouts calls to the countries free, adds Now card with info

3comments

Europe is mourning the victims of three devastating blasts in its capital: after two consecutive explosions at the Brussels airport and an explosion at the busy Maelbeek subway station, the number of casualties has reached 30 people and there are more than 200 people injured. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks. And just a few days prior to that, devastating explosions rocked central transportation hubs first in Turkey's capital Ankara, and then in Istanbul.

As a gesture of compassion, Google has now quickly reacted by including a new emergency info Now card that brings updates about the attacks in Brussels, and is also making calls via Hangouts, Hangouts Dialer or Google Voice free to Belgium and Turkey.

You can use these services to place free calls to people on Belgium’s biggest mobile carriers - Lycamobile, Mobistar, Proximus, and Telenet, while in Turkey you will be able to call only landlines for free.

For all our readers in Europe, these should be nice tools to have to stay in touch with people nearby the terrorist-hit places. Stay safe!
