Beats smartphone coming, to be built by HTC and powered by Android?
0. phoneArena posted on 29 Aug 2012, 17:10
With HTC no longer a majority owner of Beats, there is speculation that the audio technology firm is going to be producing its own Android handset manufactured by HTC, although the Taiwan based company's name and insignia will not be on the device...

Um this whole beats thing is going too far, seeing 12 years olds instore looking to buy 200 euro beats is just all wrong on so many levels! Not sure how this phone could end up

What's the point of building a similar experience to what Apple offers when we already have what Apple offers? Being like Apple is not enough - they'll have to do better across the board than Apple and better than what we have on the Android side (Google and Amazon) or this will be a non-starter.

Yay. Another UI.
This is gonna suck. Even worse than the Facebook phone.
12. Jimstar posted on 29 Aug 2012, 18:08 4
the facebook phones were actually pretty good if you were obsessed with facebook
lets be real here, whats the worst that could happen here? HTC puts out a gussied up One X or One S with a "b" paintjob? Doesn't seem that bad to me.

I like Sense and think it would be better if HTC concentrated on improving that instead of adding another UI to deal with.
17. Non_Sequitur posted on 29 Aug 2012, 18:56 4
Like the last guy said, HTC should work more on their own UI, improving multitasking, and reducing bloat/lag (which they have managed to do quite well already, kudos to them for that).
Another UI for Beats alone is ridiculous and a terrible marketing choice.

htc just updated the evo 4g lte to sense 4.1 and from what a user on here said in his post, its a major improvement!
23. Non_Sequitur posted on 29 Aug 2012, 19:40 0
Yeah, this is what I was saying in my last post. They've already done a lot to improve, I just wanna see them do it more.
34. wendygarett posted on 30 Aug 2012, 01:03 0
Why can't HTC do both? I would be awesome too :)

Give it a chance and let's see what specs it has before passing judgement. It could wind up being a really good phone. It has a significant chance to be a flop, I'll not argue that, but who knows, it could turn out pretty cool.

i really doubt this. HTC devices have all the Beats Support one currently needs in a phone. what i think this is is a Beats EDITION HTC, like they do with HP Laptops. maybe from now on the Beats Editions will be the ones shipping with headphones but for a premium while the regular versions come out sans the headphones for a cheaper price.
13. JC557 posted on 29 Aug 2012, 18:16 2
Meh, anything with Beats is overrated. It didn't improve the sound on my Rezound compared to a downloadable equalizer and my all in-ear headphoens surpass the junk iBeats that came in the box. The color scheme is good though.
I wish HTC or other manufacturers would support BBE like Cowon does on their players... combined with an awesome Wolfson DAC of course. Those things would be worth more to me than Beats and would sound better as well. Screw the rapper hyped BS.
24. KingKurogiii posted on 29 Aug 2012, 19:40 1
i like the over ear Beats but my Skullcandy Heavy Medals murders any Beats Ear Buds.
tbh i'm kind of swept up in the marketing hype. sue me. xD
29. 305Bucko posted on 29 Aug 2012, 20:29 0
Im with you on the marketing hype. I know that with beats headsets, eventhough they sound great, youre paying for the brand really. But you know what same thing goes with LandRovers, Cadillacs etc. I'd buy a Beats phone just for bragging rights.
I just hope it has atleast an S4 Pro. Oh and please no HTC branding on it anywhere. No one needs to know monster made beats ;)
30. KingKurogiii posted on 29 Aug 2012, 20:53 0
xD i bet like with the HP Laptops the HTC branding will be black like the phone so it'll blend in while there's a big red "b" on it.
31. 305Bucko posted on 29 Aug 2012, 21:10 0
I mean I can see why HP keeps their logo on it. Most people would be reluctant to buy a laptop if they are unsure of the reputation. But I think they can get away with it they market this as an "MP3 Player" that has calling features.
I would buy this if it was just straight Beats, but if it says HTC on it I'll pass. You know kinda like Lexus owners that dont want to admit its a Toyota.

A bit off topic, but King, how are those Heavy Medals? I need a new pair of ear buds, and I've been looking at those or some Klipsch S4i. Are they really that good, or are they as over rated as people say they are? I've had 3 pairs of Skullcandys in the past (Fix and 2 pairs of Titans) and they were decent, but they always broke on me. Any better build quality or durability?
44. KingKurogiii posted on 01 Sep 2012, 23:59 0
i really like them. in terms of high-end Skullcandy buds it goes from Titans being the weakest of the high-end crop to the FMJs being in the middle and then the Heavy Medals being the top dog. i've had the FMJs and the Heavy Medals and they're both very good. i definitely recommend the Heavy Medals if you like Bass though because they have huge drivers, you can make those bad boys really vibrate in your ears and the Mic works with all of the Android devices i've owned just fine. i have a pair of Beats Solo HDs too and when i compare the two i come to the conclusion that the Beats sound a bit cleaner but the Heavy Medals kill them in the Bass department hands down and they're half the price. i actually got mine for 50% off of that so i really came out lucky but come to think of it i got my Beats half off too so it's really the same thing just on a smaller magnitude. xD

Hey....Im down! a dr dre smart phone? thats sounds pretty cool.......cant wait to see the design and specs, hopefully it will be a "monster" :)

You forgot to mention that HTC is the company that Google contracted to make the original Nexus device, the Nexus One. I think that HTC should go back to being as you say "a contract manufacturer", but should also come up with their own devices like they are doing now. They could contract to companies like T-Mobile, Google, and Beats, while at the same time creating limited devices like the One series.

What is so good about beats? I still prefer AKG, bose, or Sennheiser for my studio headphones. Mind you, I don't walk the streets or ride public transportation with them on. I don't get why people want to put themselves at a tactical disadvantage. Then again I don't get why people would use beats, its overrated.

36. achangavi posted on 30 Aug 2012, 02:37 2
$50 klipsch or seinheisser earbuds with dspmanager on android set to moderate bass and stage setting, blows beats out of the water. it's really sad that people pay more for the brand instead of what's actually better. (i'm actually talking about the headphones, not HTC)
39. HäckeMáte posted on 30 Aug 2012, 15:16 1
Maybe Klipsch should charge more. How am I supposed to brag about paying $50 for headphones.
Beats makes me feel accepted by society. Im sorry I cant buy Seinheisser either cuz I dont know how to pronounce it :/

who cares monster makes overpriced crap that does not improve the quality of the sound just the bass and nothing else!!!

I have the HTC Rezound and I'm very happy with my phone but what disappoint me about HTC is they don't add new features on they phones like Samsung does just look at the galaxy s3 you could watch a video and text at the same time why can't HTC be creative like that
41. Waffleny posted on 31 Aug 2012, 00:02 0
I'm very scared for HTC. They're working on a BEATS PHONE?! That's by far the stupidest thing I've heard them do in a while. I can only stay loyal for so long. Lord knows I will stop after they make a "BEATS" phone.
42. InspectorGadget80 posted on 31 Aug 2012, 08:43 0
I don't buy over rated products that have BEATS AUDIO plus HTC is never good with battery life
