No more guessing, the official dates when BlackBerry will be rolling out BBM for both Android and iOS have been announced directly from the Canadian manufacturer; the update for Android will launch on September 21st while the update for iOS will start rolling out the very next day. The service, formerly exclusive to BlackBerry users, includes a number of social networking functions...

Just realized that out of all 112 contacts in my phone, not one of them has a BB. Unless BBM itself has a very nice interface and is a great messaging program, I don't see -enough- people (because the point would be to chat BBM to BBM) going out of their way to download BBM to use it for everyday use. Might be a flop? Who knows..?

I personally think it's a great move. BBM on an actual BB handset is far superior in terms of usability than the next most popular app, Whatsapp. It's something you have to use to actually appreciate. I'm curious to know what the app might be like on other platforms. Hope a windows phone version comes soon too.

D you think there will be a charge for this app? If so, I see it being a flop / hugely underwhelming.....

They announced its going to be free of charge on their event when they first said they would be rolling it for Android and iOS.

As an Android user, it'll be nice to brag about it to iPhone users for one day!

They'll just counter that and say Infinity Blade III.

Why do the people at Blackberry move at snail pace?
I feel like pulling out my whip and saying to all the managment team at Blackberry "getty up getty up" while I am thrusting my whip at their rears :)

For people living in South Africa, this is good, bcos "everyone" is on BBM (BlackBerry was voted the coolest Brand by the young South Africans, bcos data is very expensive, BB comes with BIS which makes it affordable), now Android and iOS users will now join the majority.

Won't this put a fork in BB? If being cool and having BBM was a main feature, why not still use BBM on a significantly better phone?

Awesome, cant wait :) don't have to worry about if a person has WhatsApp or not.
This may kill WhatsApp down here in South Africa, as many here own BBs, so BBM coming to us Android and iOS users means we'll switch over. Also, with BBM, there's no need to give away your number so many will love that bit of security in it. :)

Yeap. I'm always like "No, sorry, I use an iPhone I dont use BlackBerry" and one thing i'm looking forward to is that I will have to give ppl my PIN, unlike WhatsApp where anyone who has my number can text me.

Yeah, I really hope that Samsung doesn't have a 3-month exclusivity to BBM. Really want to try it out on my Nexus 4.

I remember when facebook would let you know that the other person was typing a reply. What happen to that feature. Now facebook only notifies you that the message has been sent and read by a check mark. I know this article has nothing to do with Facebook but this feature might have been removed because of patent issues with BBM. But I'm just speculating here.

Um I think that feature is still there the last time I checked, which was last night. After I send the message to a friend, it would show the check mark when they have read the message, but will say "typing" whenever they're replying.

Nothing trying to be funny but why not just use an app like Voxer or whatsapp?

Try BBM. Get some of your friends on it and use it for a week and you will likely discover the answer for your question.
