Australian Court gives Apple a preliminary ban against the sale of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1

0. phoneArena posted on 12 Oct 2011, 23:40

An Australian Federal Court has ruled in favor of Apple, ordering a preliminary injunction against the sale in the country of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 tablet; the Korean based company's flagship tablet is already permanently banned from sale in Germany...

Maybe they should send them over here (to the Philippines). The only model they have for sale here is a 16GB 3G model. What people might buy over here is the 16GB WiFi only model.

Patents related to touchscreen and multitouch?

What the f**k, Australia?

6. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 00:07 3 12

Yes Apple has those patents believe it or not. Android is copying and infringing on the patents. I know you don't believe this, but the courts do obviously

10. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 00:47 9 2

"Hey, we should be the only guys in the world whose touchscreen allows input in more than one place at once."

Do you realize how retarded that sounds?

12. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:11 2 9

What about specific gestures that Apple brought to market? Do you think it's ok for android to rip off pinch to zoom?

18. Lucas777 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:41 1 1

i have to agree… apple was denied the patent for multitouch as sniggly attempted to describe, but i do believe apple has patents for specific gestures like pinch to zoom… i think apple got the patent they deserved because after all they were the first to patent it…

25. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:06 3 1

On the one hand, pinch to zoom is an intuitive and almost essential function for making everything from web browsing to map navigation easier, but on the other hand, it's such a simple idea that it hurts to think one company should get exclusive rights to use it. It's like putting notifications in a drop down tray so they don't interrupt what you're doing.

I mean, should a device that works differently and looks different in so many ways really be entirely banned from the market because it uses a similar command to complete certain actions?

29. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:20 1 4

Well they could not use it and then there's no issue.

42. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 03:24 3 1

Why does there have to be an issue in the first place? It's not like Apple's business has been affected any. Oh wait, I'm sorry, they actually have to SHARE THE MARKET with Android. Boo hoo.

78. VerizonInside (unregistered) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 16:29

I dont know Taco, is it ok for iOS 5 to have a drag down status bar at the top of the screen JUST LIKE ANDROID?

43. ardent1 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 03:28 2 6

> Do you realize how retarded that sounds?

No more retarded than when Sniggly tried to use the "you don't know what the Xoom 2" will cost argument. Just because Sniggly doesn't have brains to solve backwards doesn't mean it can't be done.

No more retarded than when remixfa tried to explain how RD expense belongs in gross margins when remixfa doesn't even understand US GAAP, has never read Reg SX (or knows what that means!), or bothered to look at Apple's public financial statements. Even phonearena decided to change "gross margins" to "manufacturing margins" since that was the original meaning.

No more retarded than when NeXoS tried to slam Apple for copying Samsung in 2009 when Apple first worked on that technology in 1995!!!

Apple has won against Samsung in Germany, in the Netherlands, and now in Australia. These are FACTS.

55. remixfa posted on 13 Oct 2011, 06:56 1

i realize you cant help being dumb, but are you always so bitter??? lol

64. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 09:08 1 1

So... I was retarded for telling you that you didn't know how much the XOOM 2 would sell for? (After all, as I CLARIFIED TO YOU, that's what I meant when I said "cost.")

In true iFanboy fashion though, you'll spout your bulls**t then never respond and pretend like you were never refuted.

Young earth creationists do that too.

Sniggly (the man with foot in mouth disease) is now the sole expert on patents and in Australia no less.

We should name it the Sniggly syndrome: I put my foot in my mouth, but I'm still right because I said so.

Your parents played soccer with your kidneys when you were a child, didn't they?

4. taco50 (banned) posted on 12 Oct 2011, 23:56 6 9

Fandroids won't like this. Of course sniggly, remix and the crew will claim this is a victory for Samsung.

Soo apparently Apple has no case, but they keep winning lawsuit after lawsuit against Samsung. I know the judge must be an iSheep.

Man this has been a bad week for all the haters lol

5. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 00:05 6 3

See now, this is what I'm talking about, Taco. You come in with some ridiculous strawman just to insult people. If you knocked that s**t off you wouldn't be so reviled around here.

7. superguy posted on 13 Oct 2011, 00:11 6 2

That's ok,. He'll get his turn to eat crown when Samsung gets iPhone blocked in a few countries in Europe for infringing on their patents their.

What goes around, comes around.

That's all you can comment on - is a typo I made at 1:30am? Seriously? Lame.

56. remixfa posted on 13 Oct 2011, 07:01

LOL,
Old taco is back for good I see.

Am I happy about this? heck no.

I would like to see what about the P2Z they got kicked for because every other country has said that they cant have the patent for it. Australia obviously runs by different rules.

If the ban stands, Samsung will just redesign it with every little issue that apple has brought up in mind, launch a new "tab2" and piss apple off because it showed all of its sue happy cards.

Also, dont forget, samsung has REAL patents that they are now going after apple with. Dont start crying when the banhammer swings the other way. Getting the tab banned is 1 product in their portfolio. If samsung gets apple banned in return, its going to take out every phone and possibly ipad they sell since they are all based on the same tech... which will be much more damaging.

70. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 11:56 1

Yes of course Apple's patents aren't real but Samsungs are soo legit

9. somebody (unregistered) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 00:32 1

"i ban you,you ban me,we r happy enemy"
lol the rest of android manufacture will happy if these two giant keep fighting!

66. remixfa posted on 13 Oct 2011, 10:03

not if apple can get samsung on android patents..then they are all in danger.

11. ivanko34 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:01 6 2

I already own a galaxy 10.1 tab

apple :
0% innovation
100% lawsuits

13. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:12 2 7

You do realize galaxy tab wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Apple?

17. erikiksaz posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:40 4 1

You do realize that Apple didn't invent the tablet? Just because the ipad was one of the first very commercially successful tablets doesn't mean that it was the first out on market.

19. Lucas777 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:42 1 4

nobody said it was… but do u really think u wud have that galaxy tab if it wasnt for ipad… there wudnt even be android of it wasnt for apple… and that is documented…

23. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:47 1 6

Facts don't matter to these guys. In their twisted minds no matter what Apple does it sucks and Apple is always wrong.

69. remixfa posted on 13 Oct 2011, 10:57 1

the documentation shows that android was in development before ios.

22. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:45 1 6

What I say stands. Android had zero tablets on the market before the iPad. Samsung just shamelessly copies Apple

36. 10aera posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:59 4 1

Thats nonsense...an iPad is just a bigger iPod Touch, and an iPod Touch is just an iPhone without Celular bands, and an iPhone is just a phone with a touc screen... And Apple certainly did not invented cellphones, Apple did not invented touchscreens, or cameras, or cellular bands, or galleries, or music, or apples... The iPhone wouldn't exist if there were not other cellphones at the moment...coming from Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, etc. It's just a chain and nothing more... At the end it is not about who created what... It is about who implements the creation in a better way... That's why Apple is totally scared of Samsungs' size, power, and technology.

60. superguy posted on 13 Oct 2011, 08:30 1

And let's not forget that Microsoft and Blackberry have had smartphones out for years before Apple decided to come along. The Windows ones had touch screens.

Guess Apple decided to copy Microsoft. :D

20. ivanko34 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:44 5 2

you realize that without samsung no apple products ?
apple just copy and put patents on stollen ideas

24. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:47 1 5

Oh really how would there be no Apple without Samsung? Which ideas did Apple steal and patent?

39. p0rkguy posted on 13 Oct 2011, 03:13

I didn't realize stealing was required when you manufacture it...
I guess if I were to own a large manufacturing company that produced glass windows and sold it to a wholesaler, I must let the wholesaler know that I will also be selling the glass windows? lol...
Also, before you get start typing away, software can be done by anyone. It's why people buy hardware and not software. Software is an intangible. Owning rights to a "software" doesn't really mean much as it can be easily distributed and altered through technology. Only way to actually own it is to keep it for personal/private use.

51. kshell1 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 06:41

if you look it up android was bought by google in 2005 so in all reality the iphone is copying android.

52. kshell1 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 06:43

and where would the world be without stealing things anyway? video games steal from each other, cars do, tv shows do, clothes do (they all use cotton or polyester or silk dont they?) all things steal from something else at one point or another

54. kshell1 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 06:45

also android was founded in 2003

71. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 12:03 1

Let me try to understand this fandroid logic. Android development started in 2003 I believe. So anything that came out after 2003 was invented by android?

And how could iPhone copy android in 2007 when there were no android phones to copy?

81. kshell1 posted on 14 Oct 2011, 06:48 1

there may not have been any phones to copy the os was just under development.

83. TMobileRep_52_SwaaaG posted on 14 Oct 2011, 13:29 1

under development? yes, but what could they have stolen if there was nothing on the market to steal ideas from? o i know, a magical apple fairy broke into the HQ where android was being developed and stole to prototype plans right?? a lil Cold War action going on yes??? this discussion is just getting rediculous

14. GeekMovement posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:15 7 4

The Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 is an outstandingly beautiful device. One of their tablets will be on my list in the future.
I played with my friend's iPad (because oddly enough majority of my friends are iFans) and it was nothing special. I didn't want it and I didn't want to keep it.

16. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 01:39 1 7

Galaxy Tab looks EXACTLY like an iPad. What impresses you about it if the iPad doesn't impress you?

26. Sniggly posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:08 4 1

The Galaxy Tab looks exactly like the iPad? Really Taco? What are you smoking son?

32. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:34 1 5

Anyone not blinded by Apple hate can see that

62. superguy posted on 13 Oct 2011, 08:33 1

Yeah, because if it's a blg rectangle and black, it MUST be a copy.

Funny, I don't remember seeing arguments like that when Apple Powerbooks were black and looked like PC laptops. I guess Apple didn't copy that. Now if one says you can't really copy a form factor, then I'd agree and you'd have no argument against other tablets. :p

61. superguy posted on 13 Oct 2011, 08:31 1

"What impresses you about it if the iPad doesn't impress you?"

It's not running iOS. :P

27. GeekMovement posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:17 6 1

I'm mainly speaking about the UI. If you've used apple before you'd know they have the same UI which is a screen with apps filling the entire space, nothing special about that. Other tablets give you the option of placing both apps and many different variety of widgets to make personalization a focus. I think that's awesome... but maybe that's just me. But there's also a difference in design as well. Slightly bigger screen with better resolution and the shape forms more rectangular with slightly more curved edges while the ipad is closer to a box. Subtle differences? sure but I notice these.

Not to mention expandable memory with sd

28. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:20 1 6

Widget is same as an app just a little larger and loads in the background sometimes. Don't see a big difference there in look or functionality.

30. GeekMovement posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:25 5 1

uh... no. You obviously have either not used a widget before or don't know what the purpose of widgets are. You can do so many tasks on your home screen without having to click a single app. Why would I put an oversized app to fill up the space of my home screen... I don't think so. There's a huge difference.
and sorry if you don't see a big difference in design, I am a rather strict critic when it comes to design in phones and tabs. of course all are mainly opinions so that shouldn't matter to anybody much, just me.

31. taco50 (banned) posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:33 1 5

"and sorry if you don't see a big difference in design, I am a rather strict critic when it comes to design in phones and tabs."

Obvious troll

33. GeekMovement posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:36 7 1

Troll? Can you define what you mean by that? Is stating my opinion about a products design provocative, inflammatory, or off-topic? no. And I don't post comments in every thread stating negative comments about android OR apple everywhere I go unlike some.

37. GeekMovement posted on 13 Oct 2011, 02:59 6 1

I guess ye can't speak when you notice yourself as a hypocrite.

41. saiki4116 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 03:24 2 1

widgets are dyanmic, not unlike just the static appdrawer in ios..............

40. sethyvball posted on 13 Oct 2011, 03:23 5

My cousin has a Samsung Galaxy Tab too, gotta say its abit better than my Asus Transformer. When I pick up people's ipads and turn it on, they all look the same. Theres the safari icon there...and video icon here, theres just no sense of individualism whatsoever, this goes with the iphone and ipod touch aswell. This was ultimately the reason why I bought theTransformer. When I look at my friends android phones and tablets, they all look different. They have widgets, themes and backgrounds to go with their personality. Once Im bored I can completely change the layout to my liking, I think its great to have choice.

53. kshell1 posted on 13 Oct 2011, 06:45 2

the ipad is nothing but a glorified app launcher. why do you think it runs so smoothly? it doesnt have to use any real processing power.
