At least 3 million Google Nexus 7 tablets expected to ship by year's end

0. phoneArena 03 Aug 2012, 02:11 posted on

So far, the Google Nexus 7 tablet is selling pretty well, judging by how the Google Play store ran out of stock in no time. And even though neither Google nor Asus have released any official sales figures yet, we now have an idea as to how many units are expected to ship over the next few months...

It is an Kindle Fire competitor... (That's 40% of Android tablet market share, but doesn't bring profit nor popularity to Google's Android.)

Apple stays strong, especially it the tablet market. If Android wants to survive its biggest enemies assault on the mobile OS market, (Windows 8) it has to bring serious Google-branded devices (not 100 dollar phones or tablets) and make them popular. As such, the Nexus 7 is a good move, but... 3 millions are really not that much.

It should be interesting, when the iPad mini, or whatever they decide to call it comes out.

If this is true than I'm very disappointed. Google sells the tablets at cost and moves only 3 m in half a year, that's total failure to say the least.

But I believe Google will sell much more than that. The tablet is so attractrive.

One thing we know for sure is Google did not expect the device to sell this much. If they expected the sales to be higher, then I'm sure the device wouldn't be out of stock before. Google knows the Nexus tablet is doing better than they expected. I'm just hoping that they'll bring out a Nexus 10.

3mn is just a estimate...actual sales may vary...once N7 is available in more countries and retail stores...sales will certainly increase.

3million is very little, these are just expectation, and we know google sold "unexpected" amount. so no one really know how much they already sold or how much they will be seeling. but I am sure it is not just 3million

One thing is for sure, Google underestimated the demand for the Nexus 7. I have 3 of them and for the price, it is an AMAZING device. I think Google and other companies can learn something from the Nexus 7 sales though. 8GB is NOT enough! Especially on a wifi only tablet that can't connect to 3g or 4g. If there was a 32GB version for $299, I would have bought that. People want content on their device. If you're going to go as low as 8gb and 16gb and they are your only option, please include a microsd card slot. I think Google thought the 8GB would sell best because it's only $199, but for $50 more I get twice the capacity? It's a no brainer for me. A lot of other folks felt the same way as well. The 16gb version is sold out everywhere except for at the Play Store.

I love my Nexus 7. It's a great device. Especially at the price it's being offered at. I hope Google makes a Nexus 10. I also hope that the Nexus 7 2(or whatever the next one will be) will be offered with more storage and/or a microsd card slot.

Curious. What would you use the storage for ? On wifi you can have cloud storage for everything. Also the device has no rear-facing camera.
So your pictures would probably be nil.

Well for one I root my devices. I use storage for system backups in recovery, App data backups, I like to have music on device. Also, where I live wifi is not available everywhere. If I'm in a place with no wifi, I want to have certain things on device. Yes I have plenty of cloud storage, but there are certain things that need to be kept on device and 16GB is just not quite enough. If I could buy a data plan with it and be able to get to cloud storage at all times, then it would be different. Don't get me wrong, I love the tablet, I just think it should have had a microsd slot for those times when wifi is not available.

Google and Asus must have really undershot demand for this thing. Asus is probably not making much on making this, so they dont really have a whole lot of incentive to rapidly advance production.
