Asus turns to negative ad campaign to sell devices, expects to ship 1 million ZenFone units in Q2

0. phoneArena 18 Apr 2014, 03:27 posted on

In a crowded Chinese smartphone market, Asus plans on using a negative ad campaign in order to grab sales from a smartphone hungry population. This means that instead of focusing on the great features and capabilities of its own products, Asus ads will show you how the competition screwed up. Along these lines, Asus has already referred to its rivals as idiots, saying that it won;t hold back production of its ZenFone to foster an artificial demand...

Zenfone's reception in Indonesia is very good from what I saw in the forums & media online. For people with enough knowledge about it, Zenfone 4 is a better choice for them than Nokia X. Zenfone 4 is also cheaper than Nokia X here, around $100 vs $136 (Nokia X).

Then again, I'm not sure it'll beat Nokia X sales, despite how crappy it is, it is Nokia after all.

can i get here maps, nokia mix radio, swiftkey keyboard, better build quality, future updates, in zenfone? do you know how much it cost to buy offline gps map with 4 inch screen?

www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0011ULQNI?pc_redir=1397602254&robot_redir=1

garmin with 4.3 screen and gps map cost 199usd and nokia x cost around 120 usd and then you said its crap while it can make many things your favourite phone cant.
if you want phone to play games the whole day then buy the one with high specs and dont bash others and thinks people do not deserve to buy them.

You don't need here maps you have something better with their maps (Google maps) . You can buy SwiftKey and a radio subscription for the price difference and then some. The build quality is probably as good as Nokia's and I know this because I have a padfone infinity. Offline maps are kind of pointless in this day and age unless you plan on going to some desolate place with no humanity and if that is the case then you need more than phone gps.

Let's break your comment down...

"can i get here maps" Who cares about here maps? Google maps is better in every way....

"nokia mix radio" Why do you want Nokia Mix Radio? What does that offer that Pandora, Slacker, or Tune In don't already offer for free?

"swiftkey keyboard" That'll cost a few bucks. But you'll also have the option of using tons of other keyboards available on the Play Store. How about the official Google Keyboard? That one is free and is very good.

"better build quality" This is subjective, I bought a Lumia 521 and it's build quality wasn't any better than the cheap Alcatel One Touch Evolve I have laying around the house.

"future updates" Most likely the Zenfone will get more official updates than the Nokia X will. The Zenfone is built on 4.3 with a plan to update to 4.4 later this year. Isn't the forked version of AOSP Android the Nokia X is built on built off of 4.2? So already the Zenfone has a more recent version of the OS.

"do you know how much it cost to buy offline gps map with 4 inch screen?" There are apps on the Play Store like MapFactor and NavFree which are totally free to download and use no data. Here Maps isn't your only way.

if you live in usa, japan, uk and s.korea this phone wont ship there, this mean nokia aim for poor countries, i will try to explain why nokia x is better in these poor countries.

as i said offline map is big deal; in our country like 25% only have 3g network and the rest use edge or no network at all. we have tourist, mining, farms and a lot of business all of these require navigation so either purchase portable navigator like garmin or own phone like nokia x. garmin is expensive than nokia x so this phone become big deal.

those apps you mention like mapfactor and navfree they dont have worldwide coverage like here maps, here maps cover even region like tanzania, kenya and uganda.

i have gs3 but samsung wont allow me to stream music through milky because am from africa, pandora too wont allow me, many streaming service they dont give us their service but nokia without a problem they allow us to stream and i can also stream local music.

nokia x is not lumia 521 because it was destined for 3rd world countries, look at its appearence and build quality it resemble asha 501, 503 and other asha series, nokia know this market more than anyone. we dont have service centre like in your country we depend on build quality to make our phone last longer.

swiftkey and other free apps; here few people have credit card, people dont buy apps they only pirate. when there are stores which offer paid apps for free like nokia store then people take this chance with two hands.

when i say future updates i dont mean to move from numbers 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 i mean really support. when nokia launch x people complain about ability to change tile colors and in last update nokia provide it. few companies listen to consumer when it come to budget phone. even under 30 euro phone like nokia 220 they got updates. this is nokia i know

So after our discussion Phone Arena ran this story today.

Doesn't sound like Nokia is all that great about updates or receptive to customer feedback like you had claimed. Sorry your favorite company is falling apart. Do remember they were just bought out by Microsoft so it's not really their fault.

Here maps? It has google maps. Nokia mix radio? What the hell? Swiftkey? You can buy it for god's sake.

The build quality is pretty good for cheap phone and ASUS did promise to update their OS to Kitkat. Can Nokia X update it's OS, wait, what was it called? Since I'm pretty sure it's not called Android. Oh, and the OS's UI looks like crap.

Offline map? Seriously? You can't get a signal or something? Buy a hard copy map, it's cheaper and you can even use it if your phone is off.

Make no mistake, I am Nokia devices user, I used their product for quite some time until now (I do own WP520), but to me Nokia X is a half-assed product, from the OS, the UI looks and it's spec. It's crap.

Look another arrogant jerk thinking their use case is the only one that matters and that other country use cases are irrelevant.

How about STF. I dont buy the BS that its running android coz android cant be as ugly as WP. IMO its just a DUMB OS with .apk a.k.a Android apps support.

Sorry, but where do you find Zenfone 4 here? Btw Zenfone has a hard time competing with the likes of Nokia 520/525, not Nokia X. I don't really think that Nokia X is talked that much.

I don't think their advertising campaign will help them too much if the new pricing of $250 for Zenfone 5 and more for the Zenfone 6 was accurate. I was ready to buy an unlocked Zenfone 6 at $199, but if they hike it up to $299 I'm not interested.
