Asian Galaxy Note 3 units exempt from Samsung's annoying region lock

0. phoneArena 27 Sep 2013, 06:10 posted on

The European and American Galaxy Note 3 models might be locked to their respective regions, or so it says on the boxes' label, but Asian and Australian versions don't seem to have that same restriction...

Well, for some odd reason there are 16 GB models of the note 3 in Australia :/
I'm confused as to whether they're real or fakes
I do remember Samsung saying there aren't any 16 GB models

Taiwan and Hong Kong are getting a 16GB variant, but for most countries the 32GB model is the minimum one.

Isn't Sammy already confirmed that you are one Samsung store visit away from overseas usage with a local SIM?

an official statement has already been posted by samsung switzerland that the first time it has to be used by that region (sim/carriers) then its unlocked completely... just to avoid (illegal) sales from one region to other..

Daniel, I hope Samsung clarifies this. But, I believe that the FIRST time you use the sim has to come from your home region. Once it's unlocked in your HOME region, you can swap sims when traveling to other regions. This would prevent the phone from being sold initially in regions where Samsung has yet to release it, unless the user is willing to buy an open-boxed model. If this isn't the case, Samsung is crazy.

Only in USA and UK.
If baught from this region we have to activate with their sim cards..pretty simply to stop grey market sales.

SMART MOVE :)

if i stay at USA or UK I wouldn't be picking up a note 3 this weekend. Carrier lock is bad enough.

Great law.

Does apple follow this law or does it sell a locked phone with a free unlock when you ask for it, like here in OZ.

Thailand also has the same law. For those who are curious about contract and discount, we dont have any contract or discount on any phones because operators cannot lock them. However, the operators put heavy discount for monthly plans for a year when buying phones with them instead

Note 3 has the best ergonomics of the Note series, and it is fast (I got 35k on AnTuTu), but TouchWiz still causes microlag and the build quality is garbage. That back is solid enough, but it screams disgustingly cheap.

FYI to all this is for all mobile sold in Singapore nothing is locked this is also for all iphone you buy online or get it from the carriers here. I think the reason why they have this law is becz Singapore is the main distributor of mobile phones to other Asian countries. Im not sure if other asian countries have this kind of law tha mobile phones are unlock. :) cheers! :)
