Ashton Kutcher hired as product engineer by Lenovo

0. phoneArena 29 Oct 2013, 23:47 posted on

Besides announcing a new pair of Lenovo Yoga tablets (available with a 10 inch screen and an 8 inch glass), the Chinese manufacturer reached an agreement with a new product engineer; the man selected for the job is known for his work in another career, although he has been a savvy tech investor and has portrayed a couple of billionaire tech executives on television and on the silver screen...

Some people might think this is just a marketing ploy, but I'm happy for him. I've heard he really is into tech and I hope he genuinely fulfills that role. It is extremely rewarding to be able to actually guide the creation and optimization of products and then see your efforts out there in the real world.

I think I've heard somewhere that he holds an engineering degree (he started acting to finance his college), but the point is why would you hire Ashton when there are plenty people out there who might be way more creative than him?
I assume it is a pure marketing thing rather than genuine R&D...
none the less, hope he would be an inspiration for his new fellow mates..

I definitely expect them to take advantage of the marketing that they will benefit from because of this, but I do hope he actually gets involved with and has an impact on the product development. I guess, for me, it'd just be cool to see somebody who doesn't need to work another day in his life take on an actual challenge just because they are passionate about it. That would earn my respect.

from time to time people goals in life change, once a goal is satisfied, they move to another one, probably a bigger one if you look at it from achievement point of view (but this is very relative)...
from the above article I can see that Kutcher has fullfilled one part of his life by being an actor, and now he has a new goal, which is to be a part of changing the world to a better place. If he works this out, then I wouldn't be surprised to see a change of role in Ashton's career and probably life...

See your keyword there is "might". Other people "might" fill the role but, aren't going to be as marketable. While Ashton Kutcher also "might" be able to fill the role and also be extremely marketable. It's a win-win for them either way. Also, it would be extremely unprofessional to not hire someone eligible for a job just because they were in a different career beforehand. Ashton has always loved technology and is extremely bright (regardless of how he is portrayed in movies). He will be a good fit for the company.

Wow! smh... I can't believe, is this a joke? What is that expertise he's gonna bring, again? He's just one lucky @sshole, and pretty average @sshole at that. Lenovo is going to either make it or break it with this move. Likely the latter, and hopefully so, IMO.

or maybe if you look at the other side of the coin, Lenovo is bringing in Kutcher as a representation for Jobs leadership persona (maybe if his character was affected by his role in the latest Jobs movie)...just saying

Nah, it's a pic from my beloved HTC. Not from Windows phone. And I'm not jealous of Ashton.

P.S. My own picture is pretty cute. But the pic here is used to pledge my allegiance to HTC.

It's a good ploy, getting a western celebrity as product engineer in a Chinese company. Looking at reinstating the masses after what all has happened with these sort of companies or what they have been accused of.

That's an easy one. If he has the salary of an engineer and office hours then they hired him for his engineering talent. If he has a big fat check, then it's marketting. I'm betting on the latter.
