Are you happy with what the iPhone 4S turned out to be?

The long-awaited iPhone 4S has finally been made official, and while it retains the looks of its predecessor, quite a lot has been changed under its hood. Nevertheless, most of you have probably expected...

Hey. . . were's Taco50 to tell us how amazing this new iphone is. . . with all it's copied features in iOS 5 from Android?
Taco. . .
let's hear your rant about copying. . . .you like to say samsung copied apple.
So, now apple has copied
integrated voice to text in the OS
a dozen other things. . etc. . .
all form Android and others.
Buy they aren't copying?
I guess when others copy apple and put their own tweaks on things then its copying but when apple does it it's call innovation ;)
oh, the logic of an apple fan lol

What android phone has folders that you can establish like the iphone and look as good? Go ahead, i'll wait. Let's not forget people, if anyone copied anyone, let's talk about who established the first kick*** smartphone with the first real HTML browser. That would be Apple. So did Android copy apple by putting an HTML web browser and establishing a market and using apps. Hmmmmmm........nobody thinks about that do they and you also don't think about the fact that Apple comes up with ideas long before they are put into Apple's phones. But I guess you guys wouldn't know that because you are stuck in an unstable platform known as android's ***.
116. AppleFUD (unregistered)
Uh, you talking about Nokia. . .????
First web browser on a "smartphone" in 1998 ;)
And I'll be nice enough to help you read, since it's clear you can't.
"I guess when others copy apple ***and put their own tweaks on things*** then its copying but when apple does it it's call innovation"
You see the part about "tweaking" what others do. Just the same way apple tweaked how they did folders for iOS?
Can your little brain grasp that?
Apple is suing Samsung for things that at are NOT duplicated but *copied and tweaked* just like apple did with folder, messaging, notification, siri, etc. . . .
Example: algorithm to recognize when a user means to actually touch a touch-screen device vs accidental touch. There is NO WAY WHATSOEVER that Samsung could directly copy that. Why? Different operating systems thus different code and if they did copy it they would be in violation of copyright--very easy to prove. This is true for all the software patents apple if crying over. . . non of them are "directly copied."
They are implementing very OBVIOUS things in their own way via their own code.
Yeah, cause NO ONE can use white on their boxes with black text anymore cause apple did it???? WTFE!
And you really want to go with an app store? Get real! I don't know about you but I've been able to purchase software online for years. Long before iOS was around. So apple locks you in to buying only via iTunes and that is somehow different? GTFO! You can use any app/market/side load on an Android device--very different to what apple is doing with iTunes. See how hypocritical you are being? Because apple has an app store no one can have a software store tied to their device even if it is done totally different. I don't see Any app store that is tied into an iTunes type of setup. . .. please show me.
I read a lot of different sites that worship RIM, Android, Nokia, etc. . and I would safely say they all give apple a lot of credit. You apple fans just want all the credit. You can't see that all of apple's "innovations" are nothing more than tweaks to existing ideas.
They did what the market was moving toward--add capacitive touch to a phone. What, you think capacitive touch screens were being developed just to s**t on shelves forever and not move into devices that were using other touch/pressure technology? Seriously??
If we take your rational then iOS shouldn't have email, messaging, etc. . . because all that was done by others before apple ever thought about making a dumb-smartphone.
But no one has a problem with apple doing it. Sure, implement it and do your thing. . . but apple can't allow that for anyone else.
They have to sue because market share isn't going their way.
Yeah, Samsung devices look just like apple's. . .. cause I'm so stupid I can't read the big "Samsung" on the front and back of the product. And the OS is completely different. . . but you go ahead and smoke that week and convince yourself that it's somehow different when apple copies.

Cmon guys this is apple obviously it's about software what matter, and sales will prove it, I really love the stay with the same design it's the best looking phone and with siri yeahhh it's good I wished for a bigger screen yes but I'm impressed by the polishment of apple ill buy 4S for sure.

I feel really bad for the 'Apple Fan Boy' who was camping out there for months for the new iPhone....perhaps now the most disappointed Apple fan ever.
He probably now required counseling and therapy.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! WOW! I dont know if I want to call up my friends and family who are iOS fans and gloat that "Android WINS!" or if I call up and offer my condolences. All I know is that I'm so happy with their failure that I'm about to start dancing.

I think Apple is the new Palm. Release a phone that has sub-par specs and expect it to fly.

Where's tack and Miz at? I want to hear to heart slowly stop as their god (Apple) has left them hanging on to nothing but broken dreams. So much for the Android killer they kept running at their mouths about.

Well the iPhone 4S is comparable to other phones that are coming out but some of those phones like the Prime might have the edge over the iPhone with screen size, resolution and data speed (LTE). I suppose Apple is trying to keep its fan base happy with upgrades and new software features but a 3.5" screen is not going to get it for me with the same 3G data speed.

well, i thought i will miss the iP4 design model, but the same model but entirely new ios, grt phone, awaiting to get into my hand................Thanks Apple.
Great voice controller

Are you serious? Apple just took a masive poopy on you and your going to give them $400 and thank them for it? Do yourself a favor and get the Nexust Prime or SG2 or a new windows phone to see how blind you are.

I am honestly pretty impressed on what apple did here (No. Not a fanboy). Because they did the exact same thing with the 3G and the 3GS. No need to make drastic changes to this iPhone. What a lot of people are failing to realize is that Apple has a goal to become the world's only phone. Why do you think they changed the 4G to a world phone. Apple doesn't have time to build different devices like other companies are doing. The first is to get every carrier with an iPhone and that's the step they have taken now. And since the world is adopting LTE (which is not fully functional with many carriers), why would apple produce a LTE or WiMax phone? The real design will be with the next iPhone because everyone will have LTE up and running and now apple has set themselves in a nice position to make this 1 world phone that runs on LTE. Just think, Verizon LTE network is still in beginning stages. ATT is also far from really building out their LTE network. And of course Sprint is the last to come on board with LTE. Next summer we will see an LTE iPhone. So just wait and play with your 4G and 4GS.

I am very neutral person, as I am familiar with iOS, Android, WebOS, and Blackberry all within 2 years. However, keep in mind, that Apple did this move to save on manufacturing costs and expenses and to become more profitable for the next 2 quarters. This has nothing to do with only worlds smartphone manufacturer by adding Sprint to their lineup. I like their idea of incremental changes, but it is no where near Android advancement of technology. Their is a difference in incremental changes and advancement to preserve their bottom line. It's no different than a car manufacturer releasing the same model for 4-5 years until a new body change. This is Apple's mentality. If it ain't broke don't fix it. However, after awhile it becomes stale and the opinion of others could vary depending on who you ask.
Siri will be a hit, but besides that people want different hardware to show off that muscle of the A5. How can an iPhone 4 be different from the naked eye to a iPhone 4S. Thus Android has pushed the envelope with bigger screens, higher res, SuperAMOLED displays, eventually Quad Core tech, etc...These are selling features of the phone, but that is what sells now. What Apple did today was display the use of their iOS5 software rather than worry about hardware specs like Android handsets.
Regrading 4G, the iPhone 4 was never a 4G phone. I am not sure if you have read the news, but it seems like every month Verizon is creating more markets for 4G LTE. My Thunderbolt has 4G service within the entire Chicagoland area.
Why wait!??!?!?! LTE is here now. Apple does not want to increase their manufacturing costs and expenses. Plus they don't want to incur more costs for improved batter technology as well.
Verizon is already here now with LTE with already 143 markets. Sprint and AT&T having a ton of catching up to do. I am not sure why you say that LTE is not fully functional when every major city has 4G service.

I am happy that I will be using the money saved up for i5 for something else. super let down. Did never take apple to be value for money but believed in it's innovation skills.. Guess thats gone with mr Jobs.
Fitting welcome for bad times..
Microsoft and Google rejoice.

I am partly surprised but then again not really. First, i would have expected apple to follow its own method and release an 4GS rather than the 5. It probably makes sense for them to stay at least relevant while they work on something bigger for the 5. Beyond the hardware and software which generally just focused on bringing functionality that was already on other platforms (find me, dictation, and a few other things). The only thing that actually impressed me was the Siri application which I think was a huge way to push the market beyond the general standard voice activation methods we endure today. The natural voice interface just makes sense and probably should have happened a while ago. But with smartphones getting dual cores, I would think that its about time to get that moving. I am sure companies like Microsoft (who has the largest patent archive of voice related technology, i.e. Kinect) would be coming up with something like this soon enough. Google, I am not so sure but maybe. Either way, its a step in the right direction for voice. Beyond that, simply standard.

Bummed *pple fanboys can only blame *pple for today's underwhelming announcement. *pple have rested on their laurels for far too long and when they were really expected to deliver, they dropped the ball more than anyone in recent memory (far Far worse than the anticlimactic launch of the Bionic).
It's no mystery at all why they choose to fight their battles in court versus the open market. Their foolishness in biting the hand that fed them (Samsung) had to contribute to some of the delays in manufacturing that pushed their newest iteration back (they can blame immature LTE tech all they want as reason to push back it's launch, I'm not buying it). I'm sure they'll bounce back, but not before losing more share to ANDROID (and windows mobile).
64. InspectorGadget80 (unregistered)
My Atrix have a bigger screen than the iphone 4s 4.3" not to mention Galaxy s II Epic Touch 4.5" DROID BIONIC 4.5". 1080p cam/video Droid Bionic /Epic Touch. Notification been on Android for years.

iphone 4s just plain sucks may as well just hang on to my iPhone 4 people want new hardware not just new insides people want something they can physically see and touch the new insides are good but its just not enough for iPhone 4 users to sign a new two year contract not unless you just have to have every new product that apple launches otherwise you will be just wasting money come on apple get it together we all should have known that it would fall apart without steve maybe this is why he left the company like this if you agree
69. NateK (unregistered)
My thoughts; Apple is putting out a slightly improved version of the iphone out to get all of the new Sprint customers, due to the disaster of the Verizon launch with the 4. The 5 will probably come out much quicker and have a lot better specs than the 4s to capture the rest of the market. Or at least that better be what is happening. But I believe customers will always be disappointed in the new iphone releases, because of all the hype associated with the *single* phone apple releases each time. If Apple had multiple devices each launch I believe the angst would be less.
71. TOdoubleD (Posts: 114; Member since: 28 Mar 2011)
The biggest disappointment for me is the screen size. I really thought we'd see the 4" screen this time around. I'll will bet they lost some sales on this phone because of it. And I know for sure they lost sales to some Android users that were going to switch if the screen was 4". They state it's too much of a difference going from the 4.3" screen to 3.5" screen. Bummer.

I must say I have a droid 2 and was waiting for a so called iphone 5 to come out to compare specs with sg2 and boy what a let down. Not sure what iphone offers that even my current droid 2 doesn't I have awesome gps, I can replace the battery apps are pretty much on par with Apple and if they are not it is only a matter of time it will be even better. I guess I wait for nexus prime and compare it to sg2 and proceed from there.

IOS 5 has taken the best bits of android (pull down notifications) and windows phone 7 (discrete notifications) and shoved them into an ugly and out dated os, shame on U crapple Microsoft and google should sue ur ass just like U are constantly suing Samsung ECT. Its a shame really isn't it you once filled the world but now ur throne has crumbled from underneath you. should have listened to what the public wanted and U would still be king :P

So, overall- very few are impressed. If you are due to upgrade from the iPhone 3 or 3GS, or you are coming from a feature phone than sure- this is great. But why would anyone else move up to this? It's like going from the Droid to the Droid 2, the X to the X2, or the HTC Incredible to the Incred 2. Just not enough improvement to warrant it.
88. Annoyedconsumer (unregistered)
So disappointed. At the very least they could have redesigned the exterior to an aluminum back for less damage. Even if the phones more powerful components are worth the money, I'll still wait just to get a phone that doesn't break as easily. This is crap. Major crap. BAD APPLE!!!

I am disappointed in what they announced. I expected more from Apple… but people will still buy it...
92. iDissatisfied (unregistered)
At first I was generally satisfied with the new release, but after giving it some thought I admitted to myself that I did in fact, expect, for whatever selfish reason that the "new" phone be somewhat different in appearance, and have a larger display. These phones are still phones, but they are used for reading email, text messages and viewing a lot of video, surfing the web, a lot, so a slightly larger display, for me, would have really, really been nice, and for me, that may be a deal breaker and I have "i" everything.

I was disappointed in the iphone 4 recycle, im a BB person, but was going to try the new iphone, after all the hype. I feel like a kid on Xmas morning that wanted a bike & got a lump of coal, & they had the time & opportunity to knock it out of the park, ive been ready for a Verizon update since April waiting on this thing, tried the Charge when it came out, all i can say about that phone is i was happy the battery cover was easy to remove, cause it came off everyday for 7 days till Verizon got it back. Also tried the 9930 it went back 4 days later after battery went dead in 5 hrs with little to no use, so IDK

Typical apple. Just continues to rape their own consumer base. What's worse is all the apple fan boys eat it right out of their hands. This phone is still behind android. Why does it take apple until Q4 2011 to put out a dual core with 8mp camera????? I can't wait for all of the iphone4 users to wine about wanting a 4S. Go home and load iOs5 on it and be quiet. This is dissapointing but not at all shocking. Fail apple, fail.

I would say i'm quite happy with the overall specs of the iphone 4s. I currently use an Optimus 2X and the overall user experience has left a rather sour taste in my mouth. I've never owned an iphone before but i do have an ipad which gives me a great user experience. To be able to have that combined with the features i want in a mobile phone has me extremely keen to get a 4s.
118. Lee (unregistered)
I know a lot of people dont seem to like the fact that they kept it the same size but I for one am glad they did. I have small hands so it will be nice to have a dual core phone that fits nicely in my hand. They all seem to be 4" and bigger these days so its nice to have something for us smaller folk :D.
119. tyler9999 (unregistered)
u can only screw in one department
either they should have brought the phone early in the market. i mean the same shape and they took soooo damn long to bring it out
the other option would have to change the screen size
well i guess they couldnt go back in the resolution department hence they didnt increase the screen size
well the middle path would have been to change the layout. like the camera unit or something just to differentiate it and launch the phone calling it the iphone 5.
but we expect so much more from apple!! :(
