Apple's new iPad graphics benchmarked, beats every mobile device out there
0. phoneArena 13 Mar 2012, 09:52 posted on
The new iPad scored the breathtaking 15, 924 points, 50%+ more than the iPad 2, which was the previous graphics champion. Apple iPhone 4S, which also sports the iPad 2's dual-core PowerVR is third, trailed closely by the best Android representative - the quad-core Acer Iconia Tab A510 with NVIDIA's Tegra 3...

i wouldn't say it's the best. it's certainly impressive on the hardware front but it's still the same old battle just on a whole new magnitude. when Apple starts building iOS up more to really take advantage of it's great hardware THEN i'll take it's specs seriously.

and you iFans aren't? srsly shut the hell up dude. You're a two faced hypocrite.

As much as i like apple, i disagree with it being the best. Once the galaxy notw 10.1 drops, it'll cursh the ipad. I've seen some of the stuff thats gonna be on there thats being finalized and it'll kill. Taking notes and watching a movie at the same time? Comparing two things side by side? I honestly can't wait til it drops

I agree with you, I'm a iOS user, but each OS has its strengths and weaknesses. they're both extremely popular for a reason. And the newest thing is supposed to be better until a newer thing comes out. Thats how iOS and Android push each other yearly to make better devices, where us, the consumer wins.

I can tell you but where is the fun right?

Yes the graphics is good obviously
4 core graphics plus its running
ios 5.0.1 dualcore is programed
to run both quadcore and dualcore
waiting for ics then weal talk
till now yes its gooood
i like that but there is still a but?!

Android is the best.
You mad, bro?
27. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Who cares about that, really?
29. gallitoking (Posts: 4690; Member since: 17 May 2011)
lots of people.. millions of people.. so much that because of the ipad gaming abilities.. the nintendo DS brand and the PSP"s will become obsolute
30. ilia1986 (unregistered)
So nobody cares about that really. Unless you're a kid.
31. gallitoking (Posts: 4690; Member since: 17 May 2011)
ok now that is being ignorant.. illia we were making progress here.. hmmmm
32. kshell1 (Posts: 1143; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
the psp is already obsolete, the ps vita is the new
66. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Hardly. Gaming - specifically - hardcore gaming - is only attractive to only so many people - and it's just one out of many things that a PC can do.. then again I forget - the iPad isn't a PC.
So yeah - it can do gaming - arcade gaming - really really well. Even better than any Android device out there.
So what? Android excells at everything else.
99. remixfa (Posts: 14178; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yet, even with your baseless comment, android is holding a 2 to 1 ratio over iOS and activating more and more every day. Not too long from now it will be a 3 to 1 ratio.
if thats "repelling" id hat to be winning.

Well...as much as I appreciate Apple for introducing such high performing gpu in mainstream tablet...Its in no way better than PSP Vita...Imagination technologies developed special 543MP4+ for PSP Vita and Vita gpu has less pixels to fill...so saying iPad's gaming abilities are going to kill PSP/3DS is not right...If I am buying PSP/3DS I won't ever consider iPad or any other Android tablet.
67. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
yeah, the Vita is the God of Games right now. i m thoroughly impressed by it. it's that thing for me that i just really, really like but could never justify buying. o:
46. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
yeah, can't argue with that but Android is packing enough quality games now for an adequate experience based on what the casual gamer usually does on a phone or tablet.

i thumbed u up to even it out bro...lol
i have the ipad 2 as well... i do so much (business) (personal) and (gaming) stuff on this thing. all my laptop is used for is to store the music i dont want to sync to my iDevices and maybe view some things in flash or have the use of a physical keyboard and mouse for some documents/spreadsheets i create.
i'll wait to get the "new ipad" when they start to offer full xbox/ps3 games on them.
alot of these people that talk down probably never owned an ipad or iphone...
43. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
anyone would be a fool to say that Apple has weak hardware but even i would say it's severely under utilized. the problem never laid in the hardware but the OS it runs. :P
72. myipad (Posts: 2; Member since: 13 Mar 2012)
I have both an Android tablet and an iPad as both are provided for work. I see advantages to both, but to the poster above, I wouldn't say the iPad is better, can do more, or has better apps.
- More consistent interface (obviously, it's one platform)
- More user-friendly for navigation and things to learn
- Less user friendly for things like printing and file sharing
- Apps cost more (many apps are free by the same developer on Android, but pay on the iPad)
- No Flash
- Doing almost anything useful requires a "work-around"
- Battery life is amazing
- User interface varies between devices, annoying
- User interface seems more like running Linux (surprise) where every little configuration is in some obscure spot
- Apps, I believe are better on the Droid, more apps and usually free vs exact same apps are pay on the iPad
- Printing and file sharing are insanely easy on the droid
- Battery life is terrible
It makes me sad that the iPad is worlds slower than my Samsung Galaxy SII.
102. frydaexiii (Posts: 1239; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
more than your PC? You mean buffering porn faster? Cos the last time I checked the only thing you can do on an iPad is browse the web and play games and some other pointless repeat apps. Unless you're a sad little girl/forever alone guy who only uses her/his PC for Facebook to stalk people and upload duck faces, Tablets (Real tablets like Android and Windows 8) will never beat PCs in terms of functionality, much less an iPad, a blown up MP4 player.

I can honestly say, just because it beat the Tegra 3 Chipset in one benchmark certainly doesn't mean it is faster. It will need more benchmarks to prove it does actually have better graphics. Firstly their was one benchmark that stated that the iPad 2's GPU was better than the Tegra 3 benchmark, but others optimized for both chipsets proved it wrong, as well as games such as Riptide GP and Shadowgun. Its different when comparing Tegra optimized games for the Tegra GPU, vs standards versions on the Android Market with say an Exynos Chipset, the Tegra optimized version will look better because no other company besides Nvidia works with Developers to optimize games for their Processors. But when you compare a game such as Riptide GP and ShadowGun optimized for the Tegra 3, and you compare the same games optimized for the iPad 2, since they are both optimized for each GPU, the graphics should be the best or near the best the GPU can do, and with Riptide GP for Tegra 3 their where several more effects, animations, reflections, detail, shading and all the while it still ran at a higher framerate than the A5 GPU optimized version which lacked all the special goodies. Same with Shadow Gun, which takes the graphics to another level with much more details, dynamic lighting, better shadowing and shading, much nicer looking Characters and amazing water effects, for Tegra 3, whilst the A5 lacked all of that even though the game was still optimized for it. I am not doubting the PowerVR SGX543 MP4 (If I got the name right) is not uber powerful, but one benchmark certainly doesn't say it is for sure faster than the Tegra 3, not that cores always count, but 12 Cores vs 4 Cores
47. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i can assure you it is faster. your theory about comparing optimized games has merit however we're talking about synthetic benchmarks here which calculate the performance using the very same script for each SoC so the differences in FAIR comparisons such as with games optimized for each SoC's respective GPU should give you performance indicative of these benchmarks on any magnitude of test you put them through. Nvidia has been optimizing games for use with GeForce Graphics for a very long time and they very well might be much better at doing so than Game Developers for Apple but as far as raw performance is concerned the PowerVR SGX543(MP4) is certainly the winner.

OMG NOWAI a new device with new technology is better than anything OLD...SHOCKER!!
34. taco52 (banned) (Posts: 3; Member since: 13 Mar 2012)
Well Apple beating the pants off the competition as usual.
Most intuitive and user friendly
Best specs (screen, graphics etc)
Best accessibility support
Most accessories available
I could go on and on
89. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i'd give the iPhone everything on that list BUT the second one and the third one is hardly as relevant because iOS devices don't really push the hardware past a lazy comfort zone.

Next year those quad core CPU/GPU will match those of PS VITA

when i see the real video then i may believe :D not just some numbers besides that such gpu power is not needed
78. godfathxr (Posts: 2; Member since: 13 Mar 2012)
As an old school computer gamer the performance of a device is not a sum of hardware but is a ballot between hardware and software optimization. Apple devices have always benefited with a great balance while Android has not and as a result under performs.
86. nacho69 (Posts: 21; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
This is great news for all smartphone and Tablet users. Every time a new SOC comes out it always has something better than the others like CPU speed, GPU performance, battery efficiency or memory. Apple, Samsung, Qualcomm, TI, and Nvidia push each other to all make better SoCs yearly. I was Impressed When the Tegra 3 came out, and the Exynos too(can't wait too see what is in the SGS3). Omap 5 looks like a beast, and the Snapdragon S4 has great performance. Can't wait for Cortex A15's and Power VR 6 series SOC's to appear. A5X has whats necessary for the "new Retina display. For new iPad users the A5X will have great performance for them throughout the year. I am impressed with the features of the New iPad but i feel that the A5X could of had those cores clocked at 1.2GHZ, the battery seems large enough to handle it but the GPU's and the 1GB of RAM will be enough, since the iPad 2 isn't slow by any means, plus with LTE the CPU config can be forgiven. Remember though, neither Android nor iOS are crap, they are both obviously popular for many reasons. They have their differences, strengths and weaknesses which makes users lean one way or the other. I can't imagine the world without Android or iOS.

what a pity! since new ipad entered the list of GLBenchmark.com, androids with tegra 3's rating also slipped down to half of new ipad's rating. this is really bad for tegra 3 because it even can not beats ipad 2 in GL benchmark.
I don't wanna take a speculation about apple's statement that say new ipad graphic speed is 4 times faster than tegra 3 but I still believe apple has some reasons to said that. May be new ipad can beat tegra 3 device til 4x in 2048x1536 resolution.

the ipad 2 is faster than the prime ? Luckily i didnt buy 1
107. thelegend6657 (unregistered)
Really Fandroid ? The benchmark above says opposite
108. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
a slightly better GPU isn't a good enough trade-off for the raw processing might of the Quad-Core Transformer Prime iFan. :P
109. thelegend6657 (unregistered)
But I'll have to admit that the prime is really fast !
At least the new iPad still smokes it
110. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5647; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
yeah, the new iPad's Quad-Core PowerVR GPU is definitely a good trade-off for the Quad-Core CPU of the Tegra III.
105. Evil_SaNz (Posts: 258; Member since: 20 Oct 2011)
To be clear:
if you need a tablet for surfing the web, you rather need CPU power
if you need a tablet for 3D OpenGL gaming - you rather need GPU power
Tegra 3's CPU smokes the A5X five times
iPad 3 GPU is less than three times more powerful than Tegra 3
In my house I'd use a tablet as a consulence device, needing a very fast internet experience - if I wanted mobile gaming I'd take a psp vita, rather than an ipad 3.
World is various :)
