Apple’s new iOS Maps mistakes the names of oceans, asks you to jump off a bridge

Apple’s new Maps application in iOS 6 is... new. So new that we haven’t seen much of it yet, but developers who are most eager to try it out have already found some minor mistakes…

Davecann, have you ever heard of a class called English Composition 101? Or you could try using the spell checker.

Dude... I know my spelling sucks most of the time... but It takes a real jack ass to point it out because you have nothing else to say.

Yes, iOS6 is in beta. Beta means testing. I agree with you completely. What beta does not mean is naming an ocean(which is pretty big, and hard to miss btw) wrong. The bridge thing is acceptable in beta. Relocating an ocean, on the other hand, is not. Hence, the outrage.
20. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 13 Jun 2012, 10:02 4 0
Yeah I know what you mean. It's just funny that is all. The bridge thing you have to laugh at though. Some Apple customers are not too bright & might actually attempt that maneuver. (You know the people who STILL think the iPhone 4 is 4G.)
It's in beta so it will get fixed. What I am really looking forward to is the differences between the excellent Google Maps & Apple's new upstart maps when the full version is out that is.
+1 for you.

I know that it is just a Beta version, but it still leaves bad impression about upcoming product.

If u noticed they all gave ur comment a thumbs down. That means stupid people r reading, and making comments. Ur post wasn't even subjective or anti google. It was a tech comment about a product, or feature that's n beta. Don't sweat the android fans that bash apple. That company is doing, and will continue to do well.
34. davecann2 posted on 13 Jun 2012, 10:51 7 4
Thanks for the support!
I am definetely not a Google hater and I do like and respect Android. I am just getting really annouyed that all these posters are adding comments that are simply STUPID.... They know who they are.... the ones who bash a iProduct without a supporting argument or an intellegent opinion.
My comment was not directed at everyone. To thoughs who make valid points and have good arguments I respect your opinions.
35. PackMan posted on 13 Jun 2012, 10:58 4 6
Not stupid, just funny. Well, at the expense of iFans, so grow some balls and shut up.

Hey I gave you a plus 1. I get what you are saying. Some people get a little overboard, but you have to admit, seeing the Indian Ocean on Greenland is kind of funny though. lol
71. sithman (banned) posted on 13 Jun 2012, 12:56 3 0
It's kinda funny, but u gotta admit that people bash apple with no intelligent input a lot of the time. Android is a sweet os, but it's not for everyone, and neither is ios. Choice is good, and I choose both but that's me. I love the simplicity of ios, and the tech feel of android. Android has plenty of hiccups as does iOS, but I didn't name one, or bash android. Both os's rock for the people that choose them.
77. SuperAndroidEvo posted on 13 Jun 2012, 13:20 1 0
Exactly. GREAT POINT. To each is own. Some people take things too far. I just like to make things funny just to pass the time at work when I am not so busy.
101. sithman (banned) posted on 13 Jun 2012, 16:50 0 0
U do crack some good ones though lol. I gotta admit that too.
70. sithman (banned) posted on 13 Jun 2012, 12:49 3 0
Well said my man. I to like android, and iOS... However they are two totally different platforms that appeal to largely different crowds, and a few like us that appreciate both. Some people are just plain stupid, and will look to bash apple any chance they get. Android, iOS are the two dominant platforms, and with good reason. I myself can't wait for he new iPhone and ios6 to go along with the iPhone 4S and international galaxy s3 that I own. Grow up bashers, cause apples not going away anytime soon. They are wayyyyy to good of a company for that.

I'm not a Apple Fan but wait...
Even Google Maps show something like "Jet ski across the ocean".
Maybe its some kind of a light heart-ed joke?

As you're plummeting over the bridge, you can ask Siri, "Is that water rushing up at me?"
85. hltechie posted on 13 Jun 2012, 13:47 1 0
Siri would most likely think about it for half a minute and then, as you crash into the water, it would ask: "I'm sorry would you like to search the web for 'Is that water rushing up at me?'"
29. Watchmanz posted on 13 Jun 2012, 10:25 4 1
Yes, it is in beta and is not yet released for the masses. We understand that. However, the errors in the maps shown are basic schoolboy errors. Beta means it is close to public launch and just has a few small issues to be worked out. Everybody expects beta products to have some minor issues, but labeling land masses as oceans, and getting ocean names wrong is not a minor issue. If a schoolboy turned that result in to his teacher in a test he would would get a FAIL. So, isn't it fair that Apple turning out this garbage in a product due for imminent public release (which they already thought was so good that they showcased it to the world) is also a FAIL?
31. jibraihimi posted on 13 Jun 2012, 10:42 5 1
Apple: 'This isn't an error, as you all know that millions of yrs. back all the continents were joined as one, and shift in tectonic plates drifted them apart. So what we have presented in our maps is accurate representation of world after thousands of yrs. This futuristic project is the biggest project of us till now, and in final release we will give you more accurate representation of Our Earth after million yr. , and as a bonus, update will also include complete map of Moon and Mars with voice guided navigtion.......Our map software will really change the world, it's most revolutionary product ever to be made......... :)

Apple is not responsible completely for the fault in turn by turn directions, TomTom should share the blame. However it’s apple’s fault for pimping there products out as amazing or reaching new levels , when there are mistakes like this. I love iOS, but not Apple’s attitude towards it and I can tell that is where a lot of the annoyance of other phone users albeit Android or WP7 or whatever. Apple may make excellently designed phones, but there is no need for them to Advertise them as radical, lot’s of people are still going to buy your product. I don’t mean that as a front against Android , but it’s the truth people are going to turn up in droves to buy the iPhone 5, much like they did with the Galaxy S III in the UK. This is why apple needs to cool it on the inflammatory tag lines like “ The world’s most amazing mobile operating system”, that’s just going to piss people off especially when it isn’t true. Come on Apple you have plenty of people (sheep or otherwise) that are going to buy your product. You just need focus on making it work properly, cut the snotty attitude, and just advertise new features without the words revolutionary, because honestly with iOS 6 there is nothing in that can defined as that.

Glitches like these are always so funny in testing and beta phases of development. Thank you the laugh! lol
97. skymitch89 posted on 13 Jun 2012, 14:14 2 0
Sad that people are already calling things like this a fail. iOS Maps and iOS 6 are basically only in beta right now. I'm sure that once Apple gets wind of these, they will fix it. Or when it comes to following the directions, they might say something like "you have to use common sense".
98. shadowcell posted on 13 Jun 2012, 14:45 0 0
Agreed, I'm not so sure where's the humor in this.
99. aikonix posted on 13 Jun 2012, 15:45 2 1
What i dont get is why a company out of NO where all of a sudden calls their apps "Beta" because they are sued because how they potrayed their products. So, that being said, now ALL iSheep are backing up the "Beta" terms?
What i also dont get is when a product/application is released to consumers. And yes, a keyword there, keyword being "released to consumers"... What i dont get is, at that stage of an application/product, that is initially a "Fully released"..
So can someone please correct me? Am i not mistaken?
Are the iSheep now the guinea pig testers paying apple to test their products? I'm sorry im just confused... Or am i? ;)

Apple will pull it together lol the beta has only been available for a day and the full version won't even be out until the Fall. They have time to fix this.

Steve jobs would rise from Igrave to Punish Idevelopers for this IBug or may be he would say ppl dont know how to use maps and hold a press conference to demonstrate the proper way of doing it.
