I thought the iPhone 4 and 4S were the cheaper models.

I thought iPhone 3 and 3GS were Apple's most affordable feature phones. :P

for markets like US and Europe perhaps, but for China, Brazil, India, Russia, etc, The iPhone 4s still very expensive.

Outside of the US market, Apple is seeing the majority of the market going to it's mortal enemy. Profit margin over market share only gets you so far. You can have one great big ol' ostrich egg, or a dozen tiny chicken eggs in your basket. A drop and a couple cracks later you can still salvage an omelette out of the remaining chicken eggs... The ostrich egg however, has turned rotten on you.
So, will a cheaper iPhone ever be the future of Apple? No. Will a cheaper iPhone be offered outside the US to salvage market share? Well, duh. Never put all your eggs in one basket. (Crap, could have went with that analogy too.)

*Apologies... g/f told me to pick up eggs after work.

Apple and Phil are such SNAKES!! They tell you one thing and then they deny it later with new products -_-
With the iPad mini and the 4 inch iPhone.

Considering every outlet over here that reported the story had their own take on it (cheap, inexpensive, and affordable were all reported as what he said), it's no surprise that the chinese news outlet put their own spin on it as well. You've know how everyone wants the mobile carriers to be a dumb pipe for data flow? When are all the news organizations going to follow suit? Just report the info, no need to jazz it up, I just want to know what happened. Not what you heard that the New York Post overheard the LA Times doing a story on about a story they read in the Washington Sentinel. One of these days this kind of reporting is going to lead to an international incident with the potential for war. By that I mean on the international level not anything on mobile phones, unless Jobs literally meant going thermonuclear on android.

Maybe the 3.5" with 8gb iPhone will be the "cheap" model, and the 4" 16,32,64gb iPhone will be the "premium model?"

I mean it makes perfect business sense not to make a cheaper iphone that will cut profits. But I think is a bad move from apple. They should make a cheaper iphone cut the profit margins and start selling more unit will less earn. But of course why apple will go to all the hassle when they could do what they have been doing all this time?

There's no need for a cheaper iphone if you already have the nexus 4 xD

14. bucky posted on 11 Jan 2013, 12:02

They won't go THAT cheap with materials.

Nobody cares about that piece of trash. It's CES 2013. Apple's just trying to steal the headlines with throwing a rumor.

12. menny07 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 11:37

Spot on! ^^ lol :)

How could Apple cause dissatisfaction amongst the self proclaimed "Aristocratic" class who use the itsy bitsy polka bikiny phones. I don't blame the press for joining Apples' move to hijack CES2013 with this Trash. After all it's money that makes this happen ... next i am waiting for a repeat newws of WP8 doing great sales ...

16. lyndon420 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 13:16 2

19. MC1123 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 20:46

there's already a cheaper iPhone with good build called the iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4!!

they just need to cut down the price even more since iPhone 5S/6 might come in coming months!

imagine the future of apple is actually start selling real apples? I mean with the money apple make these years they can literally become the king of apple. They can probably buy out every store that sells apple in the world......
