iPhone is for kids (just gaming+web without free choice of default app=not for any real work, no free copy, just an iConboard without calendar widget for work)
so its understandable the main designer talks with kids :)

He is just getting ideas from them for the new Apple iOS UI...

Correct. But this is just the tip of the iceburg folks.
For the past few years, Apple has secretly gathered together group of kids to design their products and User Interfaces. It works like this:
1- Apple invites these kids to an Apple "Party" (no adults allowed...)
2- Apple tells them to write their names on a special sheet of paper at the beginning of the "Party" (these sheets are actually Waiver Forms which prevents Apple from being sued in the future)
3- Apple invites the kids to draw on sheets of paper their ideas about what a phone should look and act like.
4- Apple collects these drawings and sends them out to Cupertino where the R&D Team incorporates their ideas into their next iPhone/iPad/User Interface design.
Those kids who show more talent than the others are given special jobs at Apple.
In fact, the iPhone "Maps" application was almost entirely designed by them!

I think Jony were trying to gain popularity. He's thinking he could replace SJ charisma, and Tim Cook.
I really hate to say this, but most of apple UI/UX/design failure is rooted to Jony Ivy. Jony could not design a good 4.2",4.5",4.7",5" iphone. He could just do that iphone 'mini' 3.5" design.
This guy is a junk.
read what wozniak say:
Woz: Apple got arrogant
In an interview with a South African site, Steve Wozniak does not bring his word-mincer along. He specifically laments that the iPhone 5 screen still isn't big enough.
As usual, Woz oozed sincerity, especially when it comes to iPhone 5.
"Part of me wishes Apple had not been so, kind of, arrogant and feeling like 'we're the only one with the right clue.' I wish they had made wider versions -- a small and a large version of the iPhone," he said.
Yes, he did say arrogant. And I don't I feel he said it because he has unusually large hands.
Indeed, he explained: "I think Apple tricked itself by saying 'Oh, you can reach everything with one thumb.' And I don't see anybody having trouble using the larger screens (...) But Apple said that as a defensive move because everyone else had larger screens."
Warming to his thesis, he said: "Not all people want the same thing. A lot of people want the big screens." Just as they want big cars and even big meals.
"You get a feeling you're getting more with a larger screen," he mused.
Woz reiterated his fondness for Android: "I hated using Windows. I don't have that feeling about Android.".
