Apple's European filing against Samsung mentions similar complaint filed against the Motorola Xoom

Not to be satisfied until all Android tablets are barred from every store on Earth, Apple has seemingly also filed a complaint in Germany against the Motorola Xoom although the details of the complaint are not readily apparent...

These guys are just total assholes who can't stand to not have full marketshare.
I was about a second away from an iPhone on my last upgrade, glad I didn't.

These tablets look exacty the same from the ui to the design. It is so blatent. Apple is defending themselves this is a good thing. Moto come up with a orginal tablet copying apple wont be the answer. Same thing to you samsung. On the other hand moto and samsung should look at htc for orginal ui and design. They do a much better job then the others. From now on i might just only use htc asus and apple the people who can acctually innovate!

Honeycomb looks like iOS....really...no, really it looks like iOS?
The Xoom has pure Honeycomb on it. I went over this a few months ago: icons and homescreen layout doesnt make up the entire OS.
Look at pics of the oom and iPad. The backs look different. the side views look different. Only thing Apple can be mad about with the Xoom is the borders and the color black, and using icons.
35. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Touchwiz is the worst and so is the galaxy tab as far as copying goes. The xoom is bad thoughhttp://zollotech.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/xoom-and-ipad-ui-comparison.jpg. A bad one at that. I never said the back looks alike the xoom is so ugly it hurts. Htc and asus make an orignal tab why cant moto. There pathetic moto copy apple and sue them come on. Copying there features such as the app store i dont mond but the ui and design is not cool. Take a page frim htc and asus moto and samsung. Not only that but their tablets are better.

Look up the Modbook Pro and see who is copying who? Modbook is in fact fatter but beside that it look like an ipad. It was in 2009. Look up the HP Compaq TC1100. If you remove the color and the keyboard attachment it look like an ipad. It was in 2007.
58. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
The mod book is just a 15 inch macbook pro that was chopped upped. And yes i get it the hp had a touch screen. We aren't mad about the fact people had touch screen its about the fact of the design. They literally just copied apple and did a poor job at it.
91. ngo2dd (Posts: 731; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
You are saying they copy the design but clearly the design was standard for button less touch screen.
34. wassup (Posts: 565; Member since: 23 Jun 2011)
all iOS tablets look the same. you don't see them complaining do you?
155. wassup (Posts: 565; Member since: 23 Jun 2011)
there are 2, so they are copying aren't they?
29. pete7625 (banned) (Posts: 86; Member since: 01 Jul 2010)
Everyone should just stop copying apple, and that will solve everyone's problems.
38. wassup (Posts: 565; Member since: 23 Jun 2011)
or maybe apple should stop copying the designs of other companies, i suggest you look at the LG Prada, the first capacitive touch screen, and the first with the so called 'black slab design'.
They also copied off a design from a GPS unit that came out BEFORE the
iDiotPhone4 came out.
maybe apple should stop sueing other companies for copying, when THEY are the copiers in the first place.

You blind the prada is a brick. Yes i understand you think we are mad that moto used black. Its the design of the thing from its material to its proportions to the edges.
47. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
O yeah were not mad about them using a touch screen. Android did follow apple as most of their phones are touch screen which wasnt very popular pre iphone or very good. Apple is a trend setter. That being said its not copying them it just they are following apple's trend. They just sit around and are seeing what technologies apple is using and they used a touch screen so they used it to.
60. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Its a brick the iPhone is work of art. Why do people assume we are mad about using the color black. That isn't it at all.
80. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Like the front facing camera too right?
Who did Apple follow by using a front camera?
Who did Apple follow by using a touch screen? A capacitive one?
Who did Apple follow by making a phone?
Looks to me like Apple does it own share of following...
156. wassup (Posts: 565; Member since: 23 Jun 2011)
i agre with you biophone, on apple made touch screens popular, but it doesn't mean they should sue the heck out of anything that is challenging them in the market.
31. Boti95 (Posts: 162; Member since: 05 Sep 2010)
I'm really getting tired of Apple. There the p*ssys of tablet making. Eithier Steve Job needs to get laid or he is being a greety *sshole.
32. pete7625 (banned) (Posts: 86; Member since: 01 Jul 2010)
Apple defined the tablet, I think they have every right to get upset. Everyone needs to stop copying them.
39. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Yes they do need to stop. Moto headquarters gameplan is copy apple and sell it to people who hate apple but wants the ipad. So they get the ipad copy the xoom.
33. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Ok pete, I'll bite: what do you think other manufactures should do to not copy Apple? How would you design a tablet thats not a copy of the iPad?
Maybe you think they shouldnt make tablets at all? I wonder why Samsung doesnt sue LG over HDTV's...or sue ASUS over flat screen monitors...
The back of the Xoom looks....nothing......like an iPad...at ...all...
How come Apple are the ones right now suing over looks?
HP Touchpad....looks like an iPad from the front. The Xoom gets sued for I assume the front of the tablet...where's the Touchpad lawsuit?

Lets see tablets that dont copy apple how about the flyerhttp://www.google.com/m/search
?q=htc+flyer+vs+ipad&pbx=1&aq=and the transformerhttp://www.google.com/m/search f&oq=&aqi=g2-k0d0t0&fkt=2577&fsdt=9792&cqt= &rst=&htf=&his=&maction=&site= images&gl=us&source=mog&csll=& action=<oken=52d6a63b#i=11 ?site=images&gl=us&source=mog&Those who copy apple are galaxy and xoom its simple. aq=f&oq=&aqi=g3-k0d0t0&fkt=679&fsdt=6761&cqt=& rst=&htf=&his=&maction=&q=tran sformer+vs+ipad#i=12.
They can make tablets just not copy apple simple.
Yeah it doesnt its ugly and the xoom and galaxy are just bad copies of the groundbreaking ipad.
Thanks you admit they copy apple i assume a lawsuit is coming soon dont worry.

Are you stupid? A 7 in vs a 10 in? Please look up the Modbook Pro and see that all touch screen tablet look the same.
59. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
No they don't look up the flyer and transformer. You just think we are mad about the fact it had a touch screen again as i just said not all tablets look the same the design of a tablet can alter tremendously. From the proportions to material to the edges to the shape to the ui. I wasn't even talking about screen size i said design are you stupid?
86. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Wait...are you saying only Apple can use specific proportions, materials, edges?
So....how come I can get more than one 46 " HDTV from different manufactures? They all use plastic I assume, they all use some type of glass.
You're starting to sound like a gallon Kool aid drinker....scratch starting to sound like, you already do sound like it.
And please dont mention UI...especially since the Xoom has pure Honeycomb.
77. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
HTC Flyer, Asus Transformer...so if the Xoom added silver around the tablet, it would be fine huh....
Yea...Apple should sue the hell outta Motorola for not using silver around the tablet..
Who is gonna sue Apple for using black borders around the iPhone's screen...
The iPad has 1 lil hardware button at the bottom of the tablet...where is the button on the Xoom? Oh thats right...it has capacitive buttons that rotate depending on the screen position...
Yea....they should sue the hell outta Motorola...
83. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I never said they couldn't use all black they can its not about the color. I made it very clear it wasn't about the black in my previous post. Try reading it next time. I never even mentioned capacitive buttons i don't know what your on about. AGAIN i will be very clear i am not upset about the fact the xoom is black or it has a touch screen i am upset about things like how its proportioned its martial it shape its edges its ui and so on. I actually walked into a best buy looked at the xoom and that it was an iPad it took a second to realize. Thats really bad. Same thing with the galaxy. With the flyer playbook and asus they are all original.
85. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
This is all black and yet looks very different from the iPad. Its shape its ui they way it proportioned are all original.
92. ngo2dd (Posts: 731; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
Again you are comparing a 7in to the 9in tablet. The Galaxy tab is 10.1 in so how are they copying again?
87. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Have you seen Honeycomb? Are you seriously saying its copying iOS? Remember you the one that said it was copying.
No hardware button on the front, but round corners...and its a copy.
What materials do you suggest other manufactures use for making a tablet?
Ok...this confirms....you are trolling for the night...
You got me..good job...
Speaking of reading....go back and read my post about the materials and edges...
88. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
i know what'll fix this! if Motorola wrote in big letters across the face of the Xoom saying "I'm a Xoom!" if you're on this site and you can't tell the difference between a Xoom and an iPad then that's just sad. a Galaxy Tab and a Xoom is one thing but an iPad? you're really only picking straws biophone. you're not talking about the color, you're not talking about the touch screen but what else is there really? the only things the Xoom and the iPad have in common is that they are both black slabs with Touch Screens. nothing more, then you unlock them and you see one is Honeycomb and the other is iOS. they're not even shaped the same.
41. pete7625 (banned) (Posts: 86; Member since: 01 Jul 2010)
If I do remember correctly, motorola sued apple FIRST last October for patent infringements. Maybe this is apple's way of getting back at them? That really could be the only reason, as you said, there are hundreds of tablets out there, why isn't apple suing everyone else? Mess with apple, they'll mess with you. That simple.
52. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Hey Pete it's only anti competitive when Apple sues. If Apple is being sued it's because they're stealing!
56. ngo2dd (Posts: 731; Member since: 08 Jul 2011)
Are they suing them to ban the product? Btw the ipad is design is not unique in anyway. Modbook and the HP Compaq TC1100 had those look years ago. Unless you are just a blind fanboy
64. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Its called the are trying to gain leverage you ask for more and then they can settle.
78. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Looks to me like they are suing Motorola cuz its black and using black borders around the screen...
Xoom doesnt even have a hardware button on the front of the tablet...
I seriously think folks that think the Xoom is a copy have to be just trolling for the night..
61. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
there is so much ridiculousness in these comments especially from biophone. the XOOM is a 10.1" widescreen tablet and that's what it looks like. a Tablet. it doesn't need to be much and it isn't. just..a Tablet running Honeycomb. Apple is really messed up for having a problem with all these companies for their products that may seem like an iPhone or an iPad but they really aren't (except for Samsung and Motorola they could back off a little bit) i mean the XOOM? really? i don't see the problem. people aren't walking up to iPhone owners and asking "hey, is that a Galaxy S phone?" there's all kinds of Computers, Laptops & Televisions out there that look similar, hell a lot ARE similar but you don't see any Computer or Television companies trying to sue each other off the face of the planet. it's incredible that Apple is trying to get away with this. they should just stick to healthy competition. it hurts them taking their fights to the court rooms. you can tell just by looking at these comments. Apple is not very popular right now.
62. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
These comments are in no way inductive of the general public. Most people don't care. And yes the xoom looks like the iPad.
65. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Thump you should be considered some genius or something. Breaking news the xoom looks like a tablet lol. NO S.H.I.T CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. its a tablet that looks like and copied the iPad. The problem isn't people can't recognize the difference yes you can its just that they took a lot of the design elements that make an iPhone and a iPad so special and unique and great. HTC and ASUS make some unique great tablets why can't samsung and moto. Televisions are also pretty generic items and most people don't really infringe all that much. Its not like there is a ui or anything. You can't sue for being slim.
69. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
um, we represent the general public as the most involved consumers in this field. the iPhone and the iPad were unique? really? i think Apple prides themselves in keeping their devices looking as generic and simple as they can. actually there are Televisions that have User Interfaces and there's still other examples like Laptops. if Apple wants to play this game they could soon be reminded of the history of the products they've created with some patent infringement accusations on themselves.
71. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Your right the iPad was extremely generic just one of tons of tablets as everyone had and knew what a tablet was and had one before the ipad. Netbooks never even existed it was just tablets. You correct the iPhone when it was released in 2007 was a complete generic device and wasn't anything special. Everyone had app stores on there phone had there iPod on there phone had touch screen and what not. And your correct a survey of 200 people mean nothing but a group of 50 or so regular posters represent the general publics feelings. And your correct we don't watch television shows we just play around with the guide all day and turn up the volume on our televisions. And no one every copied a laptop ui.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
Im just ridiculous right to suggest that apple does anything positive.
81. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
..whoo, okay. first of all the iPad wasn't technically the first tablet, it was the first commercially successful Tablet. you didn't think that maybe after Touch Screen phones took off that nobody would image creating the same thing just on a larger scale? you act like the iPad was some radical concept but it really wasn't, it was coming from someone eventually. naturally it was Apple because they ARE trend setters but does that give them the right to be the only ones to make a generic Tablet? no. two, app stores existed before the iPhone, Apple only made it cool to have one. does that mean that Apple is the only one that can have a place to download programs for your smartphone or in essence your pocket-able computer? no. three. same point. Touch Screens existed before the iPhone but it was the first product that had a well thought out experience for using one in every day situations. does that mean other companies can't use the same technology and try to make a better experience for the people on their products? no because Apple doesn't own Touch Screen technology. i don't know wtf you are talking about with what you said about some survey but we're still kind of the general public, a small percentage of it yes but how differently do you think other people would react if they read the stories like we do? haven't you ever seen a Smart Television? no one ever copied a Laptop huh? well what about the concept of a Laptop huh? isn't that the point you're trying to make? that no one should be able to make a Tablet because Apple came up with the concept of a Tablet? i'm not saying Apple doesn't do anything positive or progressive, i'm saying they shouldn't stay ahead by keeping other companies behind.
90. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
I never said that no one should make a tablet i am saying people should make unique tablets with unique designs. For example the playbook flyer and transformer all have unique designs while the galaxy and xoom don't. Then i never said apple invented an app store or touch screens you completely missed the point. Few had touch screen phones Few had app stores and used them Few had tablets and no one had iPods on there phones before apple did it. Now everyone is doing it because apple did it. Thats not to say they were the first but the way in which it was implemented was completely unique and groundbreaking. To make the iPhone to make the iPad and such were such risky moves and were so different then was currently offered. To call that generic is funny. In this video ballmer talks about generic phones and really what was the main way of thinking when the iPhone went on sale.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eywi0h_Y5_U
If you watched the video you should realize how groundbreaking the iPhone was to change conventional thinking of how a phone works.
The survey i am talking about was posted a few days ago which everyone on here trashed for being so small. Its said more people were satisfied with iPhones then androids. If you think that the small amount of people here trashing apple represent the general public then you would have to say that the survey represent the general public to because it consists of more posters then are on here bashing apple. Then therefore you agree iOS is better then android in most people opinions.
96. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
uh..the Flyer and the Playbook are just smaller, still generic tablets. no real significant design changes at all and you wanna know why? they're tablets, they don't need much but they need to be functional and that's what they are. you can't sue after just being ground breaking guy. yeah, the iPhone was a pretty significant launch but it wasn't one of a kind. take the LG Prada for instance, it was a touch screen phone much like the iPhone. the iPhone was a BETTER touch screen phone but that doesn't take away how similar they both were at the time.
no s**t people are more satisfied with their iPhones than people are with their Android phones. only one iPhone comes out a year. there's ALWAYS better Android phones coming out. how can more people be satisfied with something that's becoming more and more outdated by the day than people with iPhones that don't have any more room for improvement for around a year from when it comes out?
101. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Even if the flyer and playbook were larger they still wouldn't look like an iPad. For example the transformer. They do have significant design changes from the iPad its very clear. I never said it was one of a kind either. I am saying its not a generic phone that you can just copy. Its like a car yeah they all have to be functional aka move but that doesn't mean you can copy its design. And you can be a coupe even if another car is a coupe and you can be black as well. But there is other things then body style aka tablet and coupe and color aka black that go into design that can be copied. Yeah body style and color are generic but there is more then that which goes into a design. You seem to be admitting that the xoom copies the iPad and think that its impossible to create a unique design. You can look at the transformer playbook and flyer all very unique.
That survey meant nothing its to small. People opinions here mean nothing towards the general public 50 or so people doesn't represents millions.
109. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
cars have many aspects that can be changed. when we're talking about a touch screen with some centimeters of bezel around it you're not going to see anything drastically different. the iPad is as generic as they come. to copy the iPad wouldn't be any real feat or accomplishment. it's not impossible but some people like Motorola, Samsung & Apple just prefers generic designs for their products and that's what they've done. they didn't copy off of each other.
you're wrong, it does mean something. it gives you an idea of how people on the outside of the situation would react. how differently do you think other people would act if they knew the same about all of this as we do?
116. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
They would mostly likely not care.
Yes you can see differences in a tablet. The xoom looks exactly the same. The iPad doesn't have a generic design its extremely beautiful. You are associated apple's clean minimalistic design as generic. Thats a design in itself.
123. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
okay, humor me. what makes the iPad beautiful? in detail. true it's design but as you suggested it is minimalistic. you can't sue another company for not embellishing their product with different colors or a different shaped spine or whatever. the Xoom and the iPad have nothing more then what it needs to operate within it's defined parameters.
135. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Apple looks so good because of its materials. The combination of metal and glass gives a premium look. Its a very sleek form factor and a clean design. MOTO can have a clean design its just they could of changed its form factor and so on.
137. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
Moto is bloated so its not as sleek but they kept the form factor so it doesn't look as nice. Its a bad copy.
141. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
or maybe it's not a copy, maybe it's just a simple looking tablet. i think if Motorola wanted to copy the iPad they could've done a better job don't you think?
145. biophone (Posts: 1877; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
It not a 100 percent copy but its really close and a ton of design ques where takin. All i would like for them to do is change it to add more depth to its sides, change the shape of it bezel, and change the screen layout.
148. Thump3rDX17 (Posts: 2160; Member since: 10 May 2010)
the design cues were used but not because Apple used them.
