Apple uses technicality in an attempt to prevent Verizon from being a "friend of the court"

0. phoneArena 28 Sep 2011, 00:32 posted on

On Tuesday, Apple claimed that federal rules prevent Verizon from entering an amicus brief in district court; the carrier claims that if the court bans imports of the Samsung Droid Charge and the Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 LTE, it would "hinder" the operator from rolling out its LTE network...

Apple,

Sorry, but if you maneuver your way to start banning Samsung products here in the US, you're going to start hearing about it...

...so don't start

Sincerely,

About 250 million American cellular consumers

This is between Apple and Samsung. A Korean company vs an American company. Apple creates 10's of thousands of US jobs. Pick your side, but you seem to lack any patriotism or pride.

Not to mention the fact that Apple buys it's components from 'foreign' companies and assembles it's devices overseas.
What is patriotic about that

And there it is again! Why is it that you have to make this personal? Who are you to question me about my patriotism or pride? Don't go there with me, let's keep on the subject of cell phones.

Samsung has thousands of employees here as well. So what will banning these products do for these workers? Is it so important to line Apple's pockets, that you would like to see these employees lose their jobs?

taco50 we all know that Apple only opens retail stores in the U.S. I don’t know of any manufacturing jobs here in the U.S. for any Apple product. I have never been to an Apple store that has 100 employees. It's more like 5 or 6. The iPhone is like blood diamonds, lots of people sacrifice, are subjected to horrible work conditions (think sweat shops), pollution, & even death (suicide), yet you own an iPhone 4. That iPhone 4 you have could have been made by someone who is suffering or worse could be dead right now. This has nothing to do with patriotism or America VS Korea. It has to do with basic human rights & the livelihood of the hard working people who made your iPhone 4. So taco50 lets be a little bit more sensitive & not be so blind to the facts that ARE being reported in the news. This is real not some conspiracy against Apple.

What horses**t. Koreans are people too, and probably more in need of jobs than Americans. Furthermore, you'll find that foreign companies employ large numbers of Americans.

f**k patriotism. Patriotism leads directly to bigotry, hostility, war and death. Conflicts due to nationalism and patriotism are almost as bad as religious conflicts.

But I guess you're right, its super patriotic that Apple doesn't subject American assembly line workers to those conditions. Ass hat

No, a REAL American will support choice and freedom and support capitalism. This means as consumers we should be the deciding factor on what product get cheers and which one gets jeers.

Samsung may be a Korean company but it's a conglomerate and as such also has a large presence in the US and other countries as well.

Going for a record number of Thumbs Down, Taco?

This is about as hypocritical a statement as I've ever heard...

1.) The Retina display in your iPhone 4?
Manufactured by LG, a South Korean company

2.) The A4 processor powering your iPhone 4?
Manufactured by Samsung, a South Korean company

3.) The entire design of the iPhone 4?
Designed by a guy named Jonathan Ive (i think), who was born in London. We're getting closer, but not exactly an American

...and to say nobody gives a damn about Samsung products would be as dumb as anything I've ever heard you spew

Apple is an "American" company? Is it manufacturing here? And talk about restricting choice.

Remember when the American car companies complained about not being able to sell in Japan?

If we want to sell overseas, they don't have to let us if we won't let them sell here. All that stuff about capitalism and competition? It goes both ways.

You might want to check the annual earnings posted for each of these companies. Samsung is a very big and diverse company with their hands in just about every aspect of electronics. If you stick to the facts, Samsung has consistently reported 2-3 times the annual earnings of Apple.

Are you serious? "Almost the number one company in the world" Not even close, not even by half. Their stock may have a high value but that has nothing to do with the company's actual value or net worth. Please read your own factsheet!

Apple: 2010 revenues at Apple Inc. totaled $65.2B, while annual earnings equaled $15.15 per share.

...and at least the other iFans make some sense. You bring no facts or logic to anything you say. Broad statements like "Apple is number one, go read ur factsheet before you say that..." support my claim and really don't say anything, especially when you're wrong.

Number one in profits in the cellular industry? Yes.
"Number one in the world!" No.

This is really getting interesting. Apple is playing with more than just Samsung's profitability here. The Carriers have a vested interest in Samsung products and Android products in general. Apple is beginning to really look like the industry bad guy and may face more concerns than the likes of Samsung and VZW, if they choose to continue to go down this path. The shareholders may end up being more affected by negative press than any potential loss in sales by the competition.

Apple needs Verizon a lot more the Verizon needs Apple, so there will be no slapping hands. Think about it, VZW managed to became the biggest cellphone provider while the iPhone was still exclusive on ATT. Do you really think Apple is going to shot themselves in the foot by NOT making VZW iPhones? Not gonna happen.

While you have a good point, after all this patent debacle, I put nothing past Apple.

It would not suprise me one bit if Apple purposely delayed models to Verizon or made different (better) versions for other carriers.
