You didn't think Apple isn't going to patent Siri, did you? Well, it is! Cupertino's most popular company has submitted a new patent application, titled "Intelligent Automated Assistant", trying to keep the awesomeness of Siri and similar products all to itself...

The funny word in the title is 'Intelligent'
A review by the Huffington post clearly shows that Google Now is more reposnive, natural and faster as compared to any of Apple's 'voice assistants'

People who want to be called 'rock god' by a certain 'female voice assistant' are clearly making up for a certain something which is quite small...
Their pathetic narcissistic sheepish existence!
Readers Gotcha :)

Google should patent Google Now and sue Apple when they're ready.

But I think Google Now is different that Siri, Google Now, searches the web, and gives you cards.
Siri, tries to be real human-like 'secretary', that answers questions, not only search the web !

siri is rather dumb than intelligent. ask silly question to siri and it will give silly answers to you.

"Siri whats the best smartphone ever?" the previous answer was a windows based smartphone but now siri will sarcastically say "you're kidding right?"
39. messiah posted on 27 Sep 2012, 10:14 4 0
How can they patent an idea that clearly gene Roddenberry has made and implemented for more than twenty years?

Steve Jobs is already dead thank god! With people who can make this world a better place who get assasinated, why the hell does this world allow corrupt people like those in Apple stay alive?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Quit your bi*ching Apple!!!! and actually create something worth buying! Quit suing people and attempting to PATENT THE "SMARTPHONE"! YOU DIDNT CREATE THEE SMARTPHONE YOU CREATE A FORM OF A SMARTPHONE!

Siri? Didn't we have voice recognition apps before Siri? Man this is utter nonsense.
37. techspace posted on 27 Sep 2012, 08:54 1 0
actually, there are many ways in which a voice recognition software can be used to access the web and the other stuff mentioned in the article, which means that apple is only patenting the way siri has been programmed to access and provide those features......you can get the same features on any other voice assistant that is programmed in a different way, i think google now is programmed in a different way...

This is going to be great fun - especially if the Siri application is crowd-sourced for invalidity. Apple's actions to game the patent system may finally be exposed.
5. frydaexiii posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:24 14 0
Are they f***ing serious? Google and Samsung and all the other Android manufacturers should cease fire and focus an attack on Apple. Get rid of them first, they're useless to the tech world now.
27. AliNSiddiqui posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:58 17 0
I want to slap Apple's CEO! This is getting out of hands!! Is this all they do?! Think about patents, and try to patent stuff they didn't even create or stuff that shouldn't be allowed a patent for and then sue everyone's ass !?

OH MY GOD AMEN BROTHA! WONDER ANDROID POWERS ACTIVATE! KILL THE APPLE! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
6. protozeloz posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:24 1 0
does this need aproval? not only seeing its competitor crush them on the game on nearly every aspect and yet they try to patent the idea? I would go to the patent office and show them all the other stuff that already existed.... or patent location based asistance and sugestions or automated location settings...
13. Droid_X_Doug posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:35 0 0
That is the whole idea behind crowd-sourcing the application examination/review process. I suspect this Siri application is going to be held up for quite some time. Apple might even withdraw/abandon the application.

No way any of this intelligent automated assistant, flexable displays, ect patents are getting approved with amount of prior art already on the market.

Welcome to the love affair between Apple, USPTO and US courts.

Looks like Apple sees its future as following the same path as Kodak . Kodak may have lead film /camera industry for a while but failed to innovate and now rely on patents as a source of income.
Apple has had it's day and is heading down the same path and it seems they are trying to patent anything and everything they can.
10. Aeires (unregistered) posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:32 2 0
So what is the word on Google filing patents for Google Now? Seriously doubt they just created the application from the ground up without getting patents for it, especially after Apple has made it clear they patent everything, including color.
23. drazyw posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:47 0 0
Dunno, I've seen them start to pattent a few things, which in the past they were very adamant against doing. They wanted this open source, open world thing and saw no need to pattent anything. Now they are scrambling to figure things out because their competition pattents everything and leaves them with no leg to stand on.
11. navidsina2004 posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:33 2 0
damn you evil apple. trying to patent something you bought completely when it was almost ready for android platform. you are a sick fu*king blood sucker in the world of science. you are a disgrace to human beings.
12. Sniggly posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:33 8 0
Yeah, except Apple didn't f**king develop Siri at all. They bought it, integrated it, f**ked it up a little, then started selling it. Google Now, on the other hand, is said to have been in development for three years. If Google can produce documentation showing they had Now in development prior to Apple's acquisition of Nuance, they can probably have the patent declared invalid when Apple brings it to bear against them.
14. Droid_X_Doug posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:39 0 0
It may not get to a patent issuing. There is a new sheriff over at the USPTO - crowd-sourced invalidity challenges. If the crowd can show valid examples of invalidity, the patent doesn't issue.
17. Sniggly posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:42 6 1
Well, we'll see. If anyone can get on that it's an army of geeks. Which, oh wow, guess what? Seems to be the most ardent supporters of Android. ;)

29. remixfa posted on 27 Sep 2012, 08:16 3 0
lol, there is too much prior art for a Siri patent to stand in court.
Google Voice is what.. 3 years old? It did everything Siri did years before it came out, it just didnt accept multiple commands for the same thing.
Vlingo and others have been around since RIM was popular. There is way too much prior work for Apple to have a real leg to stand on in court.
52. Droid_X_Doug posted on 27 Sep 2012, 13:55 0 0
At this point, it is just an application. If the application gets crowd-sourced for invalidity, I doubt the application issues as a patent for all of the reasons (and probably others as well) that you mention. Voice-assistance is just too far along the development curve.

The wording is so vague, Apple is setting up future lAwsuiTs.
Personally, I tried using SiRi on my old teeny-tiny iPhone 4S, I wouldn't refer to her as "the system" or an "embodiment" because it implies something more technicallt advanced. SiRi is only capable of simple answers, unlike those commercials with John Malkovich that show her as a fully intelligent interactive "system". The only reality of those commercials is the pathetic loneliNess of the end-user.
18. drazyw posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:42 1 0
Sorry but this should never be approved. Their are too many "like" systems out their already. Android had Voice Control long before Siri existed. Hell, every navigation system out their has voice control with natural language communication. Sorry Apple, you didn't invent any of it, and you can't have it as your own. The world doesn't revolve around you.
24. ddeath posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:50 0 0
But knowing the patent offices of US which grant any ridiculous patents Apple put up, it may be approved. If they even say they invented smart phones or mp3 players, the patent office$ will approve it.
20. mukrenol posted on 27 Sep 2012, 07:45 0 0
that is.... so blink people are screwed.... they could not use voice assistance anymore other than apple's.... dragon old dragon... you might be force to lay to rest...

I seriously hope google has applied for a patent for their virtual assistant which has been out long before siri. As much as google dislikes patent wars, apple has shown since they can no longer out innovate google or any other company, they will simply sue them out of business. Apple'S new business moto os If you cant beat em, sue them. Apple is the leach of the mobile industry.
36. TritonForceX posted on 27 Sep 2012, 08:50 0 0
I'm sorry, and I'll admit I'm no patent attorney, just thinking logically, but shouldn't an application for a patent describe HOW you're accomplishing an idea, rather than just say "this is what I want to do." If that's the case then every single one of us should storm the patent office and file for every single conceivable idea, much like people used to (and probably still) try to claim domain names with similar or misspelled names of businesses they then try to sell back to the companies.
40. yajia1 posted on 27 Sep 2012, 10:21 0 0
The 'intelligent' right there doesn't actually refer to Siri. Well at least not the Siri as we know it now.

43. garz_pa posted on 27 Sep 2012, 11:26 0 0
This is too broad. I hope the Patent Office sees this and reject this outrageous patent application. The ridiculous part is, they DID NOT EVEN INNOVATE IT! Apple was just the first one to implement it on a smartphone.
46. Fallout09 posted on 27 Sep 2012, 12:58 0 0
Wrong.... Vlingo was on BB way before Apple had Siri... Even Siri was on iPhones before Apple had Siri.

love the way Apple protects its investement.. thats what the patent system is about, congrats to them and hope they protect al their innovation.. not invention.. Innovation..
53. chaoticrazor posted on 27 Sep 2012, 14:02 0 0
siri isnt there innovation dumbass they brought it
apple are going to be the death of all innovation , soon it'll just be phone company's suing each other with no room to improve there phones without infringing on some pathetic patent.
you keep supporting apple but they will continue to crap on there ifans more and more (already started happening with there iphone 5 and its shoddy quality) becuase you lay back and accept it.
apple cant compete, so they patent everyone else's work
