Apple to bump the iPhone 5S' screen to 4.3-inches?
0. phoneArena 17 Jul 2013, 06:24 posted on
Earlier today, citing the Commercial Times, Bloomberg reported that Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S may be delayed because of a design change, and this one is pretty major – the screen on the upcoming flagship has, purportedly, been upped to a 4.3-incher...

4.3" screen won't cut it for me! Make it 5" then we are talking!

5"? You should wait for the iPhone 6S.

6S? No. You should wait until Half Life 3 comes out.

doubtful, they'd be taking a hit in display resolution or have to make a new resolution

back in time when there was 3,5" iPhone, everybody said that thas a perfect size and everything larger is not acceptable. Then came 4" iPhone, and again that was perfect size. And now... (you can imagine)

Apple just doesn't get it, doesn't matter what size their screens are, their phones are inferior to android not because of the hardware but because of the software! I love that at lunch, I can pull out my samsung galaxy s4 or note and look at my local newspaper through an app while listening to AND downloading music, then check out what movies are playing at the theater that night and check the text I just received all without having to suspend an app to go to the next one like Apple does! Face it, android is a better os than apple so as simplistic as apple consumers think their phones are, I'm not going to pay 2 years for a phone that doesn't multitask, allow me to expand my memory, or let me download stuff and pay more for the device! $200 for an Iphone 5 with 16 gb when I can pay $200 for the Samsung s4 and expand up to 64 gb's, 4 processors, gesture features, almost 3 day battery power, and super thin-gee, wonder which one I'll choose each time?
41. apple4never (Posts: 966; Member since: 08 May 2013)
umm ios 7 solves that problem, but im with you on the overpriced apple stuff if they lowered the price they would do well
52. Be_Jeal0us (Posts: 5; Member since: 07 Feb 2013)
Obviously you haven't seen the growing trend in android devices lately. A lot of the android phones on the market are progressively going towards non-expandable memory due to the fact a lot of companies want you to use some sort of cloud storage service to house all your data. Secondly, your statement about doing all the above things at the same time without "suspending" an application on the s4 remains false. I would love to see you have all those apps open on the same screen at the EXACT same time, which is impossible. You would regardless have to bounce between applications to be able to accomplish these tasks one ANY phone. Most people purchase the iPhone because it is reliable and can be used by nearly everyone. I work in the wireless industry and cannot emphasize how many people own android phones and are clueless to the amount of things they can do with their device strictly based on the fact that most of the apps don't fully explain how to work said apps. Go to your local bookstore and check out the size comparison of "iPhone for dummies" versus "Android for dummies", there's a substantial difference. Thus being said, your point is invalidated.

You obviously don't know much about how Android works. Just because an app isn't on your home screen doesn't mean it's not fully functioning. The example Bitter gave about streaming music while surfing is a perfect example, I do that every day.
And which book is bigger? I'd expect the Android one to be many more pages because it can do far more than iOS.
74. Be_Jeal0us (Posts: 5; Member since: 07 Feb 2013)
you do realize that I can easily do that on iPhone , right? It's not something you can't do on iPhone. I can stream music, and browse the web, and send text messages with ease. Sure the "multitasking" in iOS 6 is far less superior to Android, but on my work iPhone 5 where i have The iOS 7 Beta 3 installed, i have zero issues with moving between apps. Even on my iOS 6 device i have no problems with apps "Suspending" when i move to a different app. The only time an app will stop (for me atleast) is when i close out of the app itself inside the multitasking bar.
59. apple4never (Posts: 966; Member since: 08 May 2013)
yes i know android oem's are ditching expandable storage for their cloud services. and you clearly cant have all those apps on one 1 page unless you have got less than an inch per app. Ios 7 solves that generally by allowing true multitasking and having widgets open. The reason i like it now is because it has the simplicity of ios features of android and live tiles of wp. I know this is going to be war of the 3 os's but it looks nice. Now how the hell do you get 3 day battery from a s4 Extended battery case ?

First, if this is true, that means to me that all leaks regarding so called cheap iPhone probably are false as many of those included comparison vs upcoming iPhone 5S in its previous screen size - 4 inches.
Second, this is little hard to believe as it goes against Apples principle of practicality. I mean - ever since screen size has been 4 inches Apple's boses has emphisized that this is so practical to use this phone with one hand. If new screen size will be 4.3 inches, that means they will have to strech phone at least in 2 dimensions (bezel - less frame is not an option as it will make phone less durable). So, it is hard for me to believe it right now.

4.3" , n m gonna make it my secondary phone...alongside my Note III/ HTC T6
45. roldefol (Posts: 3010; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
I think this is another case of mixed rumours. They pulled the same crap around this time of year before the 4S launch. Started bandying about screen size increases from 3.5" to 4", and it wasn't true (yet). The screen size was increased, but not for another year. So they're probably working on a size increase for next year, giving the iPhone 6 the 4.3" screen, which is a good size, but still small compared to the competition.

4.3 inch is not a bad size and its perfect for single handed use..phone with bigger screens are a little difficult to use
48. x88yunkw (Posts: 64; Member since: 20 Aug 2012)
i will expect iphone 6 with 5 inches screen.
that would be my perfect size for iphone.
then it will become my 1st apple product in my life
53. Be_Jeal0us (Posts: 5; Member since: 07 Feb 2013)
I highly doubt Apple will ever produce a 5" device strictly for the fact, that's it's not as pocket friendly as something smaller. Most people usually use their iPhone with a single hand and having a 5" display would disable the use of just a single hand to be able to navigate on all screens.

4.3 inches screen is just perfect ! With the right width and a small bazel , the iPhone 5s will defently be my next phone
60. Whateverman (Posts: 3225; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Definently good news if it's true, but why such a slooooow movement toward larger screens? I think it should be clear by now that's what the people want. A 5+ inch screen iPhone could bring them Apple back from the edge, not that they're hurting right now but they're slipping slowly into irrelevance. Kick it up a few more notches Apple!

Sorry, the xperia s already had 4.3 inch screen with HD and higher pixel density. try harder
69. rusticguy (Posts: 2828; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
Width also changes or the phone just elongates?

I think Samsung has a patent on Screen sizes... Watch out Apple!
79. byazatt (Posts: 159; Member since: 26 Oct 2012)
Am not hating, but last time I checked every reviewer back in the day was like 3.5" is the perfect size bla bla bla 4.3" is too large.. time to play catch up now.
83. pvaraich (Posts: 15; Member since: 30 Apr 2013)
OH PLEASE!!!! Please bump the size to 4.3...
90. PermanentHiatus (Posts: 267; Member since: 22 Jun 2012)
Not gonna happen. Apple redesigns only once every 2 years.
They're lazy like that.
93. roldefol (Posts: 3010; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Not lazy. It's intelligent supply chain. New phone with same frame and screen as the last phone = economies of scale. Of course that only works if you're confident that people will buy the phone despite the lack of redesign. We'll see if the iPhone still has that.

The wife likes at least 11 inches....sorry Iphone users,
97. roldefol (Posts: 3010; Member since: 28 Jan 2011)
Do enlighten us, what does she do with the 6 surplus inches?
99. Kayle (banned) (Posts: 40; Member since: 26 Jun 2013)
Haha Apple playing catchup again. They are again too slow to the punch and realize again that 4.0 is too tiny. Sad it takes phones that push the limits like the Note to make Apple attempt at innovation.

If it is getting 4.3" then iPhone gets taller adding one more row of icons....
