Apple switching from Samsung to Sharp display panels for the new iPad in the summer, might thin the tablet
0. phoneArena 29 Jun 2012, 08:23 posted on
Supply chain sources are saying that Apple will switch over the summer to 50% Sharp IGZO screens, from 60-70% Samsung-made Resolutionary panels now in the new iPad, with the bulk of the rest going to LG. The sources also indicate that the new iPad with Sharp-made display will be thinner and with better battery life, all valid upgrades considering the screen specs that the IGZO technology makes possible...

I wonder what sales slogan they could use for these new I pad screens seeing as they have already thrown 'resolutionary' around everywhere for the current screens?!

I don't like Apple but i have to admit that they are the one who design & made the concept of what components (processor & display) will be used on their products, much like an Architect, and then let others figure it out and materialized it. Say Samsung, who acts like Engineer / Contractor will who will bring their concepts into reality. There you go.

They do to a point. This display is Sharp's display for the iPad. It was comissioned by apple, but apple writes numbers and draws stuff and people do it. The processors are usually Apple's designs, but the screens are designed and developed by the respective companies with imput from Apple. With some things samsung, LG, etc. are contracters, but in this case, this is Sharp's screen that fits the iPad.

They make nothing, and their os sucks... and yet they're still the #1 company on earth, with the number one selling phone, and tablet.

Google's new tablet is made by Asus. Does that bother you as well?
When you go to the grocery store the employees there didn't milk the cows themselves. Is that also an issue for you?

Because Google is a software company. Apple on the other hand prides themselves in being the only company that "makes" both the hardware and software, yet all their parts (the screen, the processor) are from outsourcing, like Samsung and now Sharp.
Yes, you don't go to a grocery store and expect the employess to milk the cows themselves, but when they put up a giant sign that says "Fresh Milk straight from the cow", you either expect it to be "Fresh straight from the cow" or they're lying.

One thing for sure, Apple will not sue Google directly, instead they will sue Samsung or HTC for infringing their "f*cking patents*.. Mark my words.

You are correct. Apple could not take on Google and have hope of winning. Apple's lawyers know that google has too much power to mess with (youtube, search, etc.).

i think samsung will come up with a better alternative so apple would not look for another manufacturer. after all they cannot afford to loose their biggest customer, or else their stocks would go down again. samsung better make apple happy with your displays or "an-nyeong-hi ga-se-yo" and yokoso to sharp!

the stuid thing thing is if the different ipads that have different screens are different thicknes than companies might have to make different covers and other docks or what ever that work with both or make two different kinds for the same product and the consumer of the average kind wont even know wich ipad that they have untill i guess they try out one of these products.
