The manager of an Apple retail store in Japan reports that they provided essential means of communication to displaced Tokyo residents, and employees stayed after-hours to help victims get in touch with their loved ones...

At least they are using the resources of the Japanese Apple stores for a good cause. In the states they are only used to provide jobs for douches.

Well, I have to say, I genuinely applaud the Apple store and corporate office for doing this. No reservations, no fine print, I'm happy they made a humanitarian move.
Still, I'm sure plenty of companies are over there doing the exact same thing, without being reported about as widely as Apple is. And this better not be turned into a PR stunt by their *insert favorite swear word here* marketing team.

Amen... Amen... I'm sure every company's pitching in, but we always hear about Apple first. But that goes for their bad publicity as well

Let's hope Apple actually does something real. This is nice for the local offices to do, but let's see Apple step up and do something significant--after all they are the biggest company in the world right now and they have NO nonprofit activities presently. Would be nice to see them actually do something for someone outside of the Apple ecosystem with all the money and power they have.

It sounds like there's such a mess there, like a monster movie, with people swarming into the Apple store.... I just watched on the news a completely opposite story. Everybody is very calm, no panic, life goes on as nothing happened, people go to work in Tokyo like it's an ordinary day. Nobody talks about the disaster. Interesting, two opposite stories...
