0. phoneArena 19 Mar 2012, 16:21 posted on

Even though retail stores might have had inventory remaining after the first day of the launch, the company has just announced that it sold 3 million units of its new tablet during the launch weekend which lasted from Friday through Sunday...

So y'all claimed Apple had failed(epic) because they hadn't sold out but come to find out, they sold 3 million ipads in a weekend and all the android fans can do is come up with lame jokes and 900,000 activations a day over 14,000 devices. Just admit it, Apple is a complete powerhouse and an awesome company. Give them props. When the new iphone comes out, it'll obilterate all sales records. I have a Note so don't come at me with the bias crap. Samsung made commercials poking fun at Apple and it had absolutely no affect.

That's cool that ur unbiased like that. People from the android camp give apple no props, that makes no sense whatsoever. Both platforms rock, and they appeal to different, and a lot of the same people. Im an apple fanboy, but I appreciate what android brings to the table. They talk down on apple like their best product is an old transistor radio, or something. Apple, and google rule the mobile space in my book.

Absolutely no effect?

Okay.

But really, these sales numbers don't completely jibe with the reality of lines NOT forming by stores all over. It may just be available in more countries immediately than the last couple of years, but it's weird how even when multiple locations report relatively low sales, Apple is still somehow breaking records in their reports.

Get over it dude. If you hold no stock in Google, you definitely need to get over it. IOS and Android are awesome. Open and expand your mind. Even if by chance that Apple is lying(they aren't) who cares.

Why does it matter whether Apple is exaggerating its sales figures? Have you ever heard of a company called Enron?

I'm betting the numbers are so high because an obscene amount of people pre-ordered them so they wouldn't have to stand in line. The inventory management was actually on point, 3 million people got new iPad's and no one had to suffer through a long line to accomplish it.

Actually dad was reading the Taiwanese news sites and the parts suppliers stocks are dropping because apple is not reordering parts for the iPad like they were promising. That is more accurate than Apple spin and fanboy hype. Always follow the money.

because this is kind of refuting previous news, thereby making it news… but god knows that might be too logical

I too have that same feeling. Since the iPad 2 has had a price drop, it's indeed sold more. The average non tech person can't tell the difference between the new iPad & the iPad 2. The Retina display is very good, but you really need a microscope to tell the difference if you are a non tech junky.

The average person would rather pay less for a product if A) they look the same & B) if the screen looks good. Especially since both the new iPad & the iPad 2 screens look real good to the average non tech person.

So I do tend to agree that these sales records Tim Cook is talking about must include the iPad 2 as well not just the new iPad.

Except its not, android has the majority market share due to the much higher volume of SALES percentage. With 900,000 sales per day thats over 6 million per week, week in week out and those figures are rising. Apple sales are far lower in comparison.

My gs2 got refunded, cuz it lagged, glitches, and froze. I don't care what yours did... I'm speaking of my own experience. Also I'm heavy into photography, and I got sick of having to limit to mms to make sure my videos got sent,or not being able to send them when I forgot to limit for mms. The iPhone is an excellent point, shoot, and send video camera. Try, and send a video from ur galaxy without selecting limit for mms, and see what happens. Cannot attach file size to large.

Well seeing as we sell dozens of galaxy s2 phones a week and never have any of your issues and rarely have faulty returns Its either
a. yours was a one and only faulty one or
b. As an ifan you make random stuff up which all ifans try think is wrong with what is the phone of the year.

Hmmm i forgot to mention every iphone we sell, freezes makes noises like alarms going off them catch fire continually,Thats true also ;-)

Well, next time I visit an Apple Store, I will have to swing by the iPhone display and set all of the phone alarms to go off at 5-minute intervals... then, I'll find the nearest in-store security camera, and I'll use the lens as a mirror to pick my nose... then I will go over to the MacBook display and hide behind it, and as customers come by I'll yell "Pick Me! Pick ME!" at the top of my lungs... then I will run to the back of the store and find the employee break area, and after a minute I'll start yelling, "Hey! Why... why isn't there any toilet paper in here?"... and when they are trying to get me out of the store, I'll run around pretending to be sneaky, and I'll hum the Mission Impossible theme over and over again as store employees try to chase me down. Maybe I could even carry a small 2-lb bag of brown sugar with me, and when I'm finally being chased out I'll break it open and leave a little trail for them to clean up afterwards...

Too bad I don't live anywhere near an Apple Store...

I used to work for Verizon too...nobody had force close issues, just the idiots that wanted to the phone to do everything for them without them having to learn it. Android does more...you just have to learn. Scary right? Learning!

So, record sales means "everybody's doin' it", I guess? Three million people just got themselves a "New" iPad over the weekend... so what if that's double the number of people to ever pre-order iPads in one weekend ever before? Just because everybody's buying one doesn't make it the right thing for someone like me. Ask a fly how going over to the fly trap, just because "everybody's doin' it", worked out for them!

So to go back to my previous post, a lack of lines or a higher availability of the new iPad doesn't mean that the device is selling poorly. Apple understands its demands now and is actually supplying accordingly.

I will say, I'm sad to see the crazy launch days gone. No more lines. No more waiting overnight. Although fullfilling the orders online makes a better experience for customers, there was just something awesome about waiting with people who were just as enthusastic as you were/are. I know it's the cool thing to hate Apple and I get that. But there are some people like me that are just excited about technology in general. But now those days are over...

waiting in line sucks IMO. I dont miss the days of waiting in line for stuff like the latest game launch. Products are just too available nowadays. Companies dont profit from shortages for these types of items because they are not commodities. The fact is, the supply often outstrips the demand, and the only reason it didnt with the Ipads and such initially in the past was a combination of being a new type of product as well as not having the sufficient manufacturing capacity to have more supply available at launch.

Tegra 3 devices were still jerky, stuttering, lagging devices. I know... I was at CES,and MWC. U can have your benchmarks, and specs, I'll take my top notch, smooth performance, and great battery life... Fine. Yes, I'll admit I was wrong earlier. I was wrong about the idea that a smaller number of the "New" iPads sold just because the lines at the stores were shorter. I was not entirely aware that the pre-orders had been so freakin enormous as to make up for, and surpass, the apparent lack of in-store customers in many places. But I am no troll, nor a fool...

What I am NOT wrong about is that iDevices are still not what I really want for myself, and that Apple still breeds an insane amount of fanaticism among its customers. Not all Apple customers are insanely fanatic, or even unpleasant, but I do find that I run into way too many who are, both on and off the internet. You may bloody me up a little, make me look a little foolish for a moment, but I'm not finished, and I'm not going to grovel to the likes of you.

Well, I hope you are happy for now... we'll see just how long you get to bask in it, though... not for too long, I suspect.

I would like to say a three way battle between the iPad 3, Transformer Prime and the Note 10.1 to see how they stack up against each other. The pixel density isn't too much different between them so performance will be key. Hopefully PA will make this battle happen.
