Apple seeks sales ban on twenty older Samsung models

0. phoneArena 27 Dec 2013, 17:38 posted on

Apple has filed with the U.S. District Court of San Jose seeking a sales ban on twenty older Samsung devices that are no longer sold in the U.S. Lest you think that this seems like a wasted effort on the part of Apple, the Cupertino based tech titan says that even though Samsung no longer sells these models "in no way diminishes Apple's need for injunctive relief." Apple says that such relief could help it in the future if the need arises...

Jesus Christ is this getting old. Apple reminds of that psychotic ex-girlfriend that just won't leave you alone... Sheesh!!!

How about you change your product to what the world market has obviously shown that it wants, and you wouldn't have to sue crap out of your leading competitor all the time. SMH

I still don't get Apple. I mean, how hard can it be just to put in a 4.5"+ and Full HD screen and 2gb RAM? If even Chinese upstart companies can do it I'm sure Apple is more than capable.

I'm sure it comes down to profit margins, but in the long run they're going to lose out if they don't bump up these specs.

4.5" screen + 1080p would slow an iPhone down by A LOT.

Just waiting for them to increase the screen size. Once they do, I'm jumping board.

It wouldn't slow down the A7 much, but it would kill the A6, considering it's GPU is almost identical to the one in the Exynos variant of the GS4, only majorly underclocked.

The screen size was really the only thing keeping me from the 5S, it was just too narrow for me to type comfortably in portrait.

You do realize the iPads use the same processor and push higher than 1080p on larger than 4.5" screens right?

With A7, iPad is one of fastest, maybe the fastest tablet on market (if Surface Pro 2 doesn't count)

Or Samsung just can't stop copying. They can pump out phones faster than Apple can sue them, that's why they want these banned even though they aren't being sold anymore. You don't really look at things from more than one perspective do you?

I don't see Ford suing Chevy, or Coke suing Pepsi every day of the week because their products are unbelievably similar. Make better and more competitive products and you won't have to try and sue any type of innovation into oblivion to try and keep control of the market you are quickky losing your grip on.

Get real.

That's because Coke didn't file a patent for, "A beverage or other liquid with fizzy bubbles created by carbon dioxide or other gas." That's the patent Apple would have filed if they got into the soda business, and then works have sued to ban Coke and Pepsi even though they were around before.

And since the US patent office just got even more effed up by going to first to file instead of first to invent, Apple would possibly win.

I'm guessing the old Samsung phones (that aren't being sold anymore) are outselling any iphone's? Yeah...sounds about right to me :)

I wish there was a way of banning Apple from existence. Well...I suppose if everyone just stopped buying into them and working with them :) What a glorious world it would be without Apple :)

"Apple says that such relief could help it in the future if the need arises to "combat" future patent infringement by Samsung."

Well, I guess we can "look forward" to more Samsung vs. Apple in the future.

Apple makes no sense they pay samsung to make the innards of their phones but sue them for having the similar looks on the outside....you know apple would be screwed with out samsungs help and honestly I cant wait till they go bankrupt before 2020

What wouldn't make sense is for Apple to just let Samsung get away with anything because they're a supplier.

It doesn't make sense because if Apple can sue Samsung for the outside then anyone should be able go sue apple for the inside. Unless Apple makes round microchips to avoid copying every other chip set.

Samsung should actually try that. Patent the rectangular shape of ram and gpu's and sue Apple. That would be hilarious and a perfect taste of their own bulls**t.

I hope Samsung will sue the crap out of this damn fruit.

It's not about not suing, it's about suits possibly being frivolous. They have every rite to, and should sue if it's necessitated. When you're older you'll understand. Now worry about your phone instead of apple.

Don't worry, I understand. They have every right to sue, but their sue is pointless. Samsung didn't infringe Apple's design patents, just look at the Galaxy S3, looks nothing like an iPhone, the Galaxy S2 looks a bit like the iPhone but come on, it's an old phone.

And one more thing, why should I worry about my phone? Xperias have their own classy elegant design, and Japanese takes thing seriously. I don't see the need to worry about my phone or Sony.

Judge and jury said they did infringe. S3 wasn't even part of this case, so maybe you don't really understand.

Jury said and they are made out of retarded people like you, so I wouldn't use what a juror decides as the measuring stick of right and wrong. That is definitely a broken and archaic system.

Let people like Darkjedi and Stealth HD decide the law. Shudder.....

Apple is lucky they come from the same country that brought us George W Bush.

Apple should focus on developing something new finally since they are getting behind as everyone knows.
What happen with innovation? Oh suing/crying constantly is their new innovation I guess...

Apple did write the 64bit iOS, but the A7 is based on ARM designs and ARM instruction sets. Apple did not invent the Retina Display, just the tech weenie name. They sourced the display from others like Samsung and LG and Sharp.

If it was ruled that they couldn't prove irreparable harm before, how in the world are they going to prove it now that the devices are all off the market?

This one needs to be thrown out with prejudice and that USPTO reform that keeps getting bandied about needs to be passed.

I laugh every time Microsoft or Apple sues someone else, as both companies are highly dishonest - Microsoft with its commercials and spyware built in, and Apple, with its overpriced products and its former founder, Steve Jobs, who openly admits to stealing other's ideas...
