0. phoneArena 11 Feb 2013, 21:05 posted on

The gang at Cupertino has come up with a unique way to unlock your phone and it is so different that they are seeking a patent on it; the idea is that by identifying pictures from your contacts list, you can unlock your device and for added security, there are variations on the idea such as requiring you to name two or more contacts to gain entry to your phone...

They can try and then get it invalidated. The patent is only good for bullying smaller businesses, the ones that can't afford expensive lawsuit.

If you want to fool yourself by calling it a win, sure.

"pinch to zoom", invalidated.
"The Rubber Banding ", invalidated.
"Multi-Touch Patent", invalidated.

Plus, everyone knows apple business secret that they have protected over the years make known through this law suit. Samsung is hell bend in appealing so Apple better brace for more damage along the way.

Make me want to buy MORE samsung products, it gives me a warm fizzy feeling.

So, all i need to present is a drawing at USPTO to have it patented and i can sue anyone with the same idea... hmm have anyone patented the ability for your phone to pull up contact numbers from your sim card or phone or any other account(FB,Google, etc.) if not I would like to patent that then i can sue all phone, simcard, carrier, etc. and get rich! xD

the crappy part about Patton's are that they making so damn expensive to get that only rich companies can afford them especially when you have to get 50 or 60 or 100 or mor Patons to actually Patton a good ideabecause there is so many variations of it but can happenI think that they should change it so that there some sort of scaling wage deal that makes it so somebody that has no money or very little money has a way that they can afford to put a patent not without getting a loan or putting up their house as a collateral

While other manufacturers are busy experimenting with actual evolutionary ideas, and thinking on the grounds of creating something "new", "never seen before", "fresh" and "exciting"...Apple doing what it does best! Seeking out pre-existing sometimes dated innovations and ideas, and trying to call them it its own!

Here's were I see a problem. You and your friend, sibling, or SO are fighting. They get your phone while you're in the shower. A contact comes up asking for a name, a contact they know as well, which they speak or type, and they're in.

The only people this keeps out is complete strangers. Many times the ones you need to keep out of your phone are the people you know.

nah! nah!. People want real innovation, not this kind of patent yet apple still call this an innovation. I have to admit that i love apple products but i never bought any of those product because i hate their management and the way they put prices on their phones and tablet.

really cant see this taking off. unlocking your phone should take two seconds or less. i really cant see iThingy users completing a multiple answer exam on their lifes just to unlock their iThingy. As many users have already said, Apple will probably try and sue android over face unlock if they are granted this patient.

sounds so complicated. password and pattern are simplest. i,d prefer pattern, because i can avoid to type something that really hard to type that make me switch forth and back to ascii keyboard (special characters) or something really long to type (i use phrases for my passwords without space between words) and some upper characters in between them, easy to type on the pc/laptop keyboard, but hard to pull on the virtual keyboard.

The face to unlock is in one of my galaxy s3 features. Why would apple try to patent that feature unless they made it better
