Apple says Samsung set a patent timebomb when the 3G standard was created to demand "excessive" royalties

Samsung is suing to stop the sales and marketing of Apple's gizmos, including the iPhone 5, in the Netherlands, but Apple argues it has sneaked in some of its own IP in the 3G standard, so it can patent it later and sue...

LMAO, cuz you kno everything right dude?? You're a tool, they had it at the mall by my house, it was $600 and it was unlocked, I had T-Mobile at the time, and had just left Cingular so I didn't wanna go back to AT&T for the iPhone, I was planning on getting the Prada, but for $600 it wasn't really worth it to me...might've been import only, doesn't mean they can't import em to a store idiot

I did that say? No I did not you tool. Apple whole thing is that they came up with the design. But LG had it before. So no they should not have protection.

@applefanboy, it wasnt the icons that made apple win it was actually the shape of the device based on apples vague patenting. Well samsung strikes back. terrible implications for apple if samsung wins this. Not only will samsung be able to ban sales of iphones and ipads, but apple will hav to pay roayalties not just on current devices but on every iphone and ipad ever sold by apple. things are getting out of hand. time to call a truce. i own an ipad 2 ny brother owns a gtab 10.1. like the metal feel of the ipad but dont like the bulk. will prob get a gtab7.7 and giv the ipad to my little sis (she likes it alot). its all a matter of opinion and freedom of choice, lets keep it alive

"freedom of choice"
Right there, truth be told.
Shut it down.

After reading these comments, I want to start a notion that requires potential (and current) PA users to take an IQ test before being able to comment.

I really enjoy the android OS it really fits my needs thats why i dont get an iphone.. i worked for apple as tech support so i know how IOS works, bt def not for me
.. Even though apple may seem like a cry baby at times with these patent sues i do support them, i mean after all apple is an american company so i think it would make sense i support them!
plus samsungs touchwiz does look alot like IOS specially know with the little notification next to the Icon... come on samsung you can to better than that! (i hope)

Apple, did you really think you could just sue others willy-nilly and not have any push-back ? Only have yourselves to blame for opening up this pandora's box. You reap what you sow.

Recall, Apple settled with Nokia for a billion dollar sum for similar violations. SAMSUNG is also a major contributor to mobile IP (pre-iPhone) and as such, many of its innovations are part of a cellular standard. I find it hard to believe Apple can just usurp the IP without any penalty or payments whatsoever. My guess, Apple will suffer near term with an injunction is certain markets...it's stock will take a temporary hit...and it will settle with SAMSUNG. After Google's inquisition of MOTO, Apple remains the most exposed with its weak IP portfolio in this market.
