Apple said to be adding 500,000 new iTunes accounts every day, revenue still impressive

Apple loves to bring its iTunes statistics out to parties, because they are often quite impressive. At WWDC, Apple announced that iTunes had 575 million users, and that the App Store had paid out $10 billion to developers, with $1.5 billion of that coming in just the last year. Now, Asymco is saying that iTunes is adding about 500,000 new accounts every day...

That's insane, actually. I wonder how this will factor into the media's "doom and gloom" coverage of Apple that seems to be so prevalent recently.

Apple comes off as pretty effeminate (especially looking at iOS 7) so I treat their statements the way I would treat a girl's: "The 3X rule"
Girls always try to make themselves 3x more appealing in their statements. If they say they've only slept with 5 guys, it's actually 15. If they say they've lost 30 pounds on their new diet, it's only been 10. Same math applies here.
Why? Factor in multiple accounts in the same household. A family will have most likely have multiple iDevices but it's still Mom and/or Dad footing the bill. My household counts for two accounts itself. My gf has an account, her daughter has an account... it's still all my gf's money.

If they're sharing apps and other content then that's one account.
Apple doesn't come off as effeminate, but that does sound like something an Apple-disliking mysogynist would say.

I think we would expect the daughter and the mother to have different tastes in music, applications, books, etc. so it doesn't matter who's ultimately paying the bill. All that matters is how much stuff is being purchased per account.

Agree. iOS7 is for girls. I mean, what was Mr. Ives thinking? Anyway, just trolling. Not buying any locked-up iDevice anymore. First and last time was last 2010.

Being skeptical here... Number of accounts does not equates number of actual user. For example, any individual can create two accounts (e.g. user12 and user34). Number of device activation per day matter more...

Also some people have accounts from different countries as well, because not all countries get the same stuff. Through this is probably very uncommon.

I have over 175 separate devices listed in my Play Store account. Is each one a "device activation"? I've owned a lot of Android devices, but nowhere near that many. I know I'm not the only crack flasher out there, so I am curious to know. Do activations take into account the secondary market?
