Apple revenue breakdown shows iPad is a quarter of its sales now, Macs don't really matter

We know the iPhone makes half of Apple's revenue and most of its profits, yet we are now seeing the iPad taking a larger role in Apple's revenue breakdown...

Well, gee.. I guess not many people would like to buy an insanely overpriced PC which runs a very limited edition of Linux.. :D
I am talking about the Mac of course. :)

A mac is a nice piece of decoration
It looks great on a glass computer desk

the Mac air is pretty. That is hard to deny. It also has an awesome trackpad. But im not paying 1200-1600 for a glorified netbook.

Macs are probably some of the best looking computers, but if I had a Mac I would immediately dual-boot Windows 7 since I wouldn't be able to use most of my favorite programs and in my opinion Windows looks better.

Very true, nice but massively overpriced. And yet also when you look at it millions pay apples hundreds of bucks for a glorified ipod touch, aka the iphone, which is really an ipod touch with calls.
The plus side of all this is that ifans expenditures keeps retail staff in jobs i guess.

Can you tell that picture is fake? I mean who in their right minds has ever tried to use an iPad outdoors? With my Asus Transformer Prime with its Super IPS + display can be used outside but only because of that feature, but an iPad outdoors & on the grass as that lady is implying is straight impossible.
I think the picture was used just for the cleavage shot. lol
I guess people are realizing that Mac’s are pointless & useless. Also it looks like the iPod is going to be extinct soon. Apple pretty much only sells two items, the iPhone & the iPad.

In your opinion macs and iPods are useless. Our Mac has lasted us 6 years ( and is still going strong). Sure, macs may be really expensive when you first buy it, but Atleast you know you have a computer that will last you a long time, and since is less popular, will have a lower chance of getting a virus( it also helps that they look pretty)
Now about the iPods, name another MP3 player that is even close to reaching the iPod. iPod is a universal word, just about everyone has an iPod. I stopped buying iPods only because I have an iPhone,

My Laptop is 4 years old. Does it work as reliably as in 2008? No. Do macs work as reliably after 2 - 3 years of usage? No.
Every computer unless you mess it up really really bad will continue to work for a decade at least.
My PC originally came with Vista in 2008 - it can run Windows 8 which is yet to be released. It's specs however are those of a late 2006 PC. It will probably also be capable of running Windows 9 or whatever they call it.
Can a Mac which was released in 2006 run Mountain Lion? No.
So a PC is cheaper, because of the fact that the hardware is identical - has the same lifespan, AND is not limited by Apple when it comes to OS choice and support.

Nope. And not going to. Watched a lot of Mac vs PC YouTube videos, though.

So as usual you're spewing nonsense because you don't know how Macs work and if they last better than PC's.
26. ilia1986 (unregistered)
I know how macs work. A mac is a PC with an Intel processor, and an Nvidia GPU. Mac OSX is essentially Linux minus the freedom.
Apple may "optimize the hardware and software" all they want - it doesn't mean squat since inside it's still an Intel PC.

The reason you have a Mac for 6 years is because the money you spent on it was so ridiculous that you need to get your money’s worth out of it. So in another 4 years you would have finally reached that. lol
Apple computers limit what you can do on the Web & in business. Unless you are a graphic designer you don't need an overpriced seldom used or bought Mac. Windows is the OS of the business world not Mac.
Every cellphone made since 2006 has the ability to play music, EVEN feature phones, so all the phones in the world from then on have reduced the iPod to nothing as the sales indicate on this nice chart PhoneArena.com as provided.
& that Virus chat, you are still on that? That was so 2008 already. People don't target Apple because it's a minority not because it's safe. I am willing to bet you my paycheck that if the Mac's & iOS ruled they indeed would have malware & viruses. So please don't think you have a safer product when indeed ANYTHING can be hacked. Nothing is safe. If it’s a computer it can be hacked, plain and simple.

How do Macs limit what you can do on the web?
Macs are safer because they get less viruses that's a fact.
28. remixfa (Posts: 14255; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
macs get less viruses because they hold such a small market share its not worth most virus makers to go after them. However that has been rapidly changing with Apple's rise in popularity and apple has been chastised numerous times for being glacially slow to respond to the security breaches and viruses it does get, unlike Microsoft who, more often than not, is very quick on patches and security fixes. OSX may have "less" viruses to worry about, but its also less secure over all because of Apple's slow security fixes. Once a security hole is found AND PUBLICIZED it can take months or over a year for Apple to get around to fixing it. Much like that little hack that you bring up that google used to add +1's to safari browser. That was known for 2 YEARS and was used by pretty much everyone before apple decided to fix it.
Go do some research for once instead of just talking out your butt.

remixfa, I thought I was clear in my post, but we all know taco50 is SPECIAL. I am sure he gets it know. The point in being a hacker or a malware producer is to infect as many as you can before they get a fix for their hard work.
Why would anyone target the Mac, the minority of computers? What type of havoc will that produce? lol
Ohh I miss those taco50 posts. It’s like the glory days all over. lol
32. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4847; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
taco50, Some sites don't support Macs. For instance my sister in-law works for a school system in North Carolina. The BIGGEST may I add. People can't print out there paycheck stubs nor their W2 forms. They are always referred to go use the Windows PC's at their work place because Macs are a minority & are widely not supported for stuff like that. That is just one example.
Also there are many more companies who don't want to spend the money to make their software compatible with Macs. Why do you thing their sales are dropping?
Coincidence probably NOT!
EDIT: I thumbed you up instead of down. My bad. lol

she is wearing the magic retina apple glasses patented last friday to use the ipad in full sun

Ilia, I have my good reasons for hating Apple but you obviously hate everything about them.
I have to point out a clear fact here - Macs sales are very steady and constant, with robust ever slight increase tendency.
Do some basic math alone and you'll see they still make a hefty 800 million $ profit.
The drop in their profit share simply came due to otherworldly insane profits that came with the iPhone and iPad.

Macs have always been 5% marketshare. For *some* reason - most people prefer actual PCs and not glorified pieces of aluminium. :)
19. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Macs at 5% marketshare was 2008. Macs have increased into double digits now.
22. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Nope. You have a little less than 8%.
This is as of June 2012.
Almost 1/8th - 1% (LOL) of this are versions from 2007 and before (LOL).
Good luck reaching double digits. :D
23. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
I'm talking about sales numbers. Since the iPhone launch Apple has reached about 25% of the US market and double digits worldwide.
25. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Again, the mac has as of today less than 8% market share. Who cares about sells? We're talking here about market share.
29. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Yea who cares about sales. That's only how you make money.
30. ilia1986 (unregistered)
Okay. So just to compare - Microsoft has about 91% of market share. That means they made 11x more money.
31. gwuhua1984 (Posts: 1237; Member since: 06 Mar 2012)
I think you need some lessons on staying on topic. You went from talking about Macs marketshare then jumped to sales, just because ilia1986 proved you wrong on Macs marketshare would jump to double digits.
27. gwuhua1984 (Posts: 1237; Member since: 06 Mar 2012)
"Macs at 5% marketshare was 2008. Macs have increased into double digits now."
"I'm talking about sales numbers. Since the iPhone launch Apple has reached about 25% of the US market and double digits worldwide."
I'm not sure if you can see the differences in your comments. In terms of debates, you have a long way to go.

Macs never really mattered.. pre-iDevice, apple was worth a paltry 13billion... what a difference 10 years makes and a few iHits... but guess what iDevices are soooo limited in what they can do if you don't own all-apple, their margins are so high, their technology/software is middle of the road, consumers are getting wise to the apple way of doing business and most but the DiEHARDS will move on...
Just like the the last 10 years amazing for apple, the next 10 years will be the decline and back to reality for apple. No two ways about it. You don't offer 4 products, 2 useful and 1 just a bigger version of the other and expect to stay on top, just not gonna happen
20. taco50 (banned) (Posts: 5506; Member since: 08 Oct 2009)
Typical hater comment. The reason Apple has had this amazing growth is when the original iPhone came out it completely blew away the competition. Now the iPad is doing the same. When you make amazing products you will make a lot of money.
