Apple releases iOS 7.0.2 to fix lockscreen security bug

0. phoneArena 26 Sep 2013, 13:53 posted on

As expected, Apple has released iOS 7.0.2 which repairs a lockscreen security bug; as we showed you last week, continually pressing the call button on the emergency dialer of a locked down Apple iPhone running iOS 7 will freeze the device and reboot it. But at the same time, the number dialed will still go through. That could allow someone stealing your iPhone to make international calls or calls to premium numbers...

Apple has always done a good job of fixing problems pretty quickly, and getting it to customers. I am really hoping they still change some of those icons though.... (safari)

Deja Vu??
This feels like iOS6 with all those updates to prevent lock screen bypass...and there were more than one updates for that.

True that.
But they should've made sure before it was released. Granted everything is not perfect, but iOS7 ain't a small thing and the previous version became a notorious subject for worry in dealing with the lock screen. They should've merged version 7 and 7.0.2...and call it a wholesome iOS7.

You have to find a public release firmware, toss it on your computer, shift-click "update" and point to the file location of that said firmware.

You can find them here.

Give me a version of Android and i'll google the bugs list for you. Better yet, give me a name of a phone and I'll google the list of issues with them. Apple is good at releasing their updates. You have tons of Android phones that was released in the past year or so that are not even getting any bug fixes/security updates.

Lol any and i mean ANY phone can have a problem. Most so called problems from android phones come from user error. Ex:My phone is slow. It must be broken.
Answer. It may be the network for all we know. I knew this one user who said he had an asus transformer which took 30 seconds to open a basic app. Lol either he was trolling HARD or he had a defective unit. I have an old lg optimus m which i can clock to 122mhz and it won't open a basic app that slow! But with the way you make it seem is that apple releases a update to end all updates. Explain other users who update and STILL have bugs. That it just works bs isn't going to fly anymore!

LOL...if you have an issue with Android, it's user error. Comment of the day right there.

Lmao i find it funny how you ignored my example! Lol a lot of basic users do feel the need to blame the phone for every little thing. Like this one chick thought her phone was defective. But it was really just syncing contacts because sometimes when you first setuo accounts on a device it will be slow at first but only for a little while. I never experienced this but it happens. Oh and i will just leave this herehttp://i44.tinypic.com/atrxuu.png

Let iOS users enjoy their bug fixes and let Android users root their phones so they get the bug fixes while voiding warranty.

Lmao root their phones like you did yours? The fact you even own an S4 is the REAL comment of the day! You put android users in an imaginary category but you own one. Which means you pretty much refer to yourself in every post you bash android.

Oh yeah? Like what? Android bugs are either so small they hardly count as bugs (more or less minor annoyances) or they're huge bugs like bypassing lockscreens or sudden death, the latter fixes are being rolled out rather quickly, my S3 got the update to fix sudden death 2 weeks after the bug was found and Samsung said they were going to release a fix.

Android is like the real world, you can't keep running to mummy for help at everything that's wrong in your life, sometimes you gotta use that brain(or rather your lack thereof) she gave you to fix your own problems.

People would be dum to upgrade to ios7! No jailbreak! iOS 5&6 is better! All free apps! Smart clever users don't pay for apps! Why give money to a company that charges you and arm and a leg for a midrange outdated device, with cheap aluminium soda can recycle built that bends!
Your much better of donating to Devs to Cydia than that greedy most hated bad company in the world! Patent thief's, and brainwashing all the public telling them they created and invented! Deception!!!!!

Just curious, but how come Apple can push out iOS updates immediately while Android manufacturers have to go through the carrier first?

I believe that's because it's distributed through iTunes. Not only do android OEMS have so many different builds for many devices, unlike Apple, they probably don't have the server system set up. Samsung has tried, and IMO failed. Plus they don't sell many devices as Apple, so carriers have more leverage. Coupled with the fact that carriers may be wary of the security of some android builds. Not that Apple doesn't have these issues but again, Apple has more leverage.

They are distributed via itunes and/or via OTA.

right...also, remember that most androids aren't running the true software, the manufacturers put their own proprietary software on top of it. So when you need an update, because your phone is running something other than "stock" android, it has to pass security/approval from the manufacturer...aka Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. Fragmentation my friend.

Even thought I'm an Android lover and an ex-Apple user (no spite, just preference) ...I think everyone gives way too much press about the "bugs" as being something they "neglected".

If they had to wait until every bug was fixed new software would never be released. I'm sure they have an huge division of beta testers that try to find bugs and fix them along with software to replciate use and detect bugs, but they can't possibly find them all or delay a release over non-"blocker" bugs.

Having 10 million users test the iOS software after it's release is where Apple will fill in all the voids and I'm sure has teams ready to listen and patch these ASAP after new releases.

This is just the law of the software land.
