Apple raises the prices of both the Apple iPhone 5s and Apple iPhone 5c in France
0. phoneArena 17 Oct 2013, 15:17 posted on
French iPhone buyers are going to have to shell out some extra cash to buy the new Apple iPhone 5s and the Apple iPhone 5c; the Cupertino based tech titan raised the price of both of its new iPhones right on its French web site. The size of the increase isn't staggering with the 16GB iPhone 5s adding €10, the 32 GB model tacking on €12 and the 64 gig model getting hiked in price by €18...

France has the Euro currency like many other European states. If the reason for the price increase was exchange rate, then why don't we see any price increases in Germany for example? There must be another reason for the price increase. Nevertheless, I am not happy with the increase. It really looks like Apple is trying to squeeze the last cent out of its customers.

Apple needs to make higher profit to drive their stock higher.....instead of making phones people want they are raking their loyal customer base over the coals to satisfy favorable stock analyst reports.
Greed, and lack of innovation always kills good companies in lieu of making investors rich customers get raped until they have had enough and bail causing further stock erosion.
The iPhone 5c did pan out and now they have to make up for that fumble. They keep making one mistake after another. Now instead of leading they are following and floundering like a panicked poor swimmer who is in over his head.

You might exaggerate a little here...Your story doesn't explain why Apple increased prices only in France and not in the rest of the Euro-Zone.

Days after days we will see 1 billion iPhone. And we will see people selling their homes and business to buy 1 billion iPhone.

A couple years till WP8 and android take the rest of their market share, all the people with the 4s are just now getting out of their contracts.

They are getting desperate though. This is so sad, litigate and reduce value to get money.
18. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
I know right, no one else raises prices ever

Apple needs to do something to stand out, otherwise it's just another phone.

Not the best of PR moves. At what point does loyalty break and people look elsewhere?
9. Shatter (Posts: 1638; Member since: 29 May 2013)
Only way loyalty will break is if it was several hundred $s more than the top of the line android device.
See macs for example. People buy them and they are horribly overpriced. Its like a $5000 mac would be $2000 to build.

Apple only concern is today profit. Nothing else should matter.
They build their entries ecosystem to keep the Apple user hooked so I know since I use their iPad and MacBook and was happy then and also bought about a hundred over dollars worth of apps from iTune.
I do feel the pinch even today.

Wow. $6,900,000,000 ($6.9 billion) in profit last quarter, the quarter before the iPhone 5S even came out (a slow quarter for them) and now they're hiking prices because profit margins are too small in France? Other companies would just keep selling the product at the set price and view it as a cost of doing business, not Apple. They'll pass the buck onto you. I hate you Apple. I hate you so much. What kind of person would be an Apple fanboy with this kind of egregious offense aimed directly at their customers? It's not like Apple has trouble making stupid amounts of money. I'm ALL for capitalism but this is in the words of Lewis Black "piggy piggy piggy f*** piggy piggy."

Well Europe wasn't exactly their stronghold, so likely this is shafting their periphery markets.
20. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
Uh, no. That's not what EVERY company does. Costs go up, prices go up. What world do you live in?
31. Doakie (Posts: 587; Member since: 06 May 2009)
When was the last time you saw a price of a phone raise within a single generation?
34. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
I don't exactly have access to price histories for every retailer on the planet to answer that. The only reason this is a story is because it's Apple. No one notices these things when other companies do it. I mean, really, a 1.4% price increase is supposed to be a big deal?
24. apple4never (Posts: 360; Member since: 08 May 2013)
i cant lie i used to b an apple fanboy but when i realised their greed i jumped ship to android and wp8
27. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
So you went to Microsoft? That's the funniest thing I've read today LMAO

I can always understand why so many people on this site complain, my response can only be if you don't live in France then stop complaining
17. Finalflash (Posts: 413; Member since: 23 Jul 2013)
Yea, if you don't live in Iraq then stop complaining, and if you weren't a jew during the holocaust, then stop complaining, and if your family wasn't killed in rwanda then stop complaining. F you for feeling bad for your fellow human being.
19. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
So what you're saying is raising prices by 10-18€ is equivalent to genocide.

Way to hand pick a failed argument, obviously not understanding his point.
Move along. Chop, chop.

Lol, in most of Europe, the iPhone 5c costs more than the iPhone 5...

I remember selling a iphone to a customer from AUSTRALIA & another from AFRICA wanted to buy a T-Mobile Iphone cause they say in their country is WAY TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE and I couldn't agree more.
22. chemhaz (Posts: 145; Member since: 04 May 2012)
iNvestors come first, it's all about profit, not innovation.... as sales slump, the hardcore fans will need to pay more...
Sit back and watch as Apple falls, just like BB, Kodak and many others that came up with a great idea and thought that was enough as others innovated and more importantly became competative in the market.

I completely understand the basis for a company's existence. A company definitely needs to remain profitable to sustain relevance. Apple as excelled in doing this. However, with Apple's small market share and yet being able to command equal standing in oil industry profits, I would say that Apple should also realize the costs of doing business in other markets rather than concentrating on received income. People need fuel. They don't need iphones. There are far too many choices to try and slap the ones that feed the mouth. They should not forget who made them rich and why they are where they are. It is amazing that a company on the verge of bankruptsy not long ago, has become so arrogant. P&Ls are something every company needs to deal with. If you feel you will lose money in areas, don't pursue them.
32. stealthd (Posts: 742; Member since: 12 Jun 2011)
They do realize the costs of doing business, that's why they increased prices (by about 1.4%, big slap in the face right? Lol)
I keep coming back to this story to read comments made by high school students pretending they know anything about business and it just keeps entertaining. Bravo
35. Slammer (Posts: 672; Member since: 03 Jun 2010)
Since my high school days were over in 1979, I don't feel I fall into the category of high school children. And I truly understand what you're saying. However, while I'm not a business major, It doesn't take one to realize that Apple is not willing to take a small loss to to bring their product at a more affordable cost to more people around the globe. Apple didn't go from the verge of bankruptsy to one of the richest and most profitable in the world by offering fair priced products to only 18% market share. It takes almost the entire world population to keep oil companies rich. But, only 200 million people to keep Apple placed in the center of these oil companies in profit levels? Business major or not, you have to admit the math is extraordinary.

Clearly, Apple is starving and people are not paying enough.
Hike them prices up!
