I was gonna say similar,apple will try put a display in a case while Samsung will simply have a hd super amoled unbreakable flexible screen which can be rolled out from a small little coiled up cylinder built into a cover making the fixed apple incase screen look quite dated.

Holy cow having the flexible screen as a keyboard smart cover is a great idea. That is a good practal use for that technology. I hope they dont get the patent. For one I think it is to much like Microsofts surface keyboard pluse I don't think it should be alowed because for one that is to broad of a patent. It's obvious that's the way those smart keyboard covers are headed. I can't believe I did not realize it before but apple does make a lot of patent request that are not a spiff idea but are more of a guess in where the technology is headed for a perticular device so they can monopolize the the accessory for lator lawsuits. It's like patenting a rectangular phone that has a big touch panel taking up the whole phone. It's how the technology has to go. It's what the obvious design directions smartphones are going its not an idea.

The Surface was inspired by the iPad and the keyboard cover by the Smart Cover. And the iPad by the Microsoft Pocket PC. There is nothing bad about it - Apple will bring display covers (displays also mean virtual keyboards) and Microsoft covers with hardware keyboards. And we can choose, as long nobody's patents are insulted.

Note the date 2007, loooong before ipad existed. The fact that Microsoft unveiled this concept in 2007 is indication that it had been in the works for years before the introduction video.

In the current Apple vs Samsung case iPad prototypes from 2004 were revealed. It's no secret the iPad was the Apple version of the Pocket PC, but not the Surface. The Surface is a product that's not even on the market three years after the iPad release.

The patent filing for the iPad was in 2004. Last time I checked, 2004 PRECEDED 2007, by about 3 years.

305Bucko, please re-check your facts, especially if you missed by a factor of 3 years.

For the record, MS cane out with the first mainstream PC tablet, but required a stylus. It was expensive, slow, and not surprising, it didn't catch on like the iPad. In fact, more iPads were sold in its first year than all PC tablets to date (i.e. coterminously).

Even Steve Jobs has admitted in the Biography by Walter Isaacson, that the first iPad was inspired by a Microsoft Tablet prototype...

I honestly like Apple products... Its just frustrating that they think they know what people want and wont change unless the competitor comes up with something which can make more money.

Apple would never introduce a physical keyboard with the iPad, knowing very well that not everyone likes typing on glass... Now finally we have a (concept) physical keyboard.

The other item was the iPad mini... They stubbornly stated they will never make a small iPad and laughed at the first Galaxy Tab. Now that the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7 are getting popular. It looks like we may actually see an iPad Mini...

At the end of the day, all that matters is as consumers we get what WE want... Doesnt matter who manufacturers it as long as it gets the job done.

I hate Apple, but the patent application was made August 2011. I'm pretty sure this was before Microsoft revealed their tablet cover keyboard... Might mean Microsoft will be forking out royalties.. :(

They redefined the whole mobile OS market (we would talk about the newest Palms, Nokias, Acer Windows 7 tablets and Blackberries now without them).

But cause i know you don't want to talk about it, i will not. In the post above i solely meant the Smart Cover and the newest idea they had about it. Nothing more. I'm not even trolling anymore, just saying my opinion.

You see, the problem is that this article and other sources says that Apple patents a 'Smart Case', but there is no info telling that this 'Smart Case' is innovated by Apple.

Too bad Apple didn't invent the Retina display. Credit needs to go to the OEM's that create the things possible for Apple to have phones and tablets.

Didnt know Apple made the Retina Display or helped develop it.

And last time I checked.....displays on older Win Mo and Android phones had higher screen res than the iPhone 3GS. Would you consider them innovative? If so, than my apologies.

And its funny that screen res higher than the iPhone 4 is overlooked by Apple, iPhone fanboys. But folks wanna talk about the Retina Display like it was some great thing. Especially when alot of fanboys said screen res higher than what was on the 3GS was unnecessary.

I guess it takes Apple to use it to make something necessary.....

The difference was Sony made it as a niche product that very few people wanted or saw a use for. Remember the Acer iconia tablet? It had a touchscreen with a hinge and was just awful. If Apple implements the idea better they should get praised for the implementation not the orginality of the idea. Knowing Apple they will make this the new normal on tablets, it may not seem right but companies use or improve on other companies ideas all the time.
