A patent recently granted to Apple hints at the use of NFC in iOS as the patent describes a technique where an embedded NFC chip in an Apple iPhone would allow the user to make a mobile payment at the register; currently, NFC mobile payments are available on just two Nexus phones...

I think he was being ironical... Infact I think Nokia's NFC testing goes all the way back to 2007 and the 6131.

The word innovation is being tossed around so much these days, I wonder if anyone, especially iFans know what it means anymore...

According to wikipedia, "Innovation is the creation of better or more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are accepted by markets, governments, and society. Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a new idea or method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself."

NFC is neither a new idea, nor first implemented by Apple...So no, they did not "innovate".

So Apple just invented NFC payments too?

6. ZEUS.the.thunder.god posted on 06 Mar 2012, 22:51 7 4

yeah they just did it. only apple can patent things long after their invention, thats why its called magical.

4. ZEUS.the.thunder.god posted on 06 Mar 2012, 22:46 5 4

wow. so once again apple has managed to patent something which is already there on two current phones.
"Right now in the States, mobile payments are limited to the availability of NFC on just two Nexus smartphones, the Sprint Nexus S 4G and the Samsung GALAXY Nexus, and Mastercard's system"
now its really iMAGICAL. apple sucks.

Patently rediculous!

8. ayephoner posted on 06 Mar 2012, 23:07 4 5

they arent patenting nfc payments. they are patenting a certain type or technique.

i dont completely agree with it, but you guys must be complete idiots if you cant understand patent law enough to realize that apple isnt patenting something they didnt invent.

beyond that, if you follow the source link, you'll find: "Apple's patent reviews credit card transaction rules and shows us that the credit card companies will be sending statements directly to your iTunes account." and that the patent was filed almost 2 years ago.

22. A.aoudi posted on 07 Mar 2012, 02:08 6 2

Now Apple is coping Nokia. I wish for some stupid reason they get sued on this 1

24. ayephoner posted on 07 Mar 2012, 06:03 2

more idiocy. standard.

26. bayusuputra posted on 07 Mar 2012, 11:57 1 1

so engineers..... where's that NFC-enabled iPhone again? are they ready? next season?
ok, sure, nevermind.. just get all the patents first, don't care whether the products are real or still in the magical dreams, don't let anyone steal the ideas, the only great artist is us, and the rest are just the good ones..

remember what our big brother said, good artists copy, great artists steal..

ok, now back to the papers, we got some more suing to do..

27. ayephoner posted on 07 Mar 2012, 16:33 1

so they should patent it after they release the technology?

you're smart.
