So now I'll get to use my phone as per Apple's wishes? What is exactly wrong with USPTO and Apple?

OK I have been hated on by a lot of users for bashing Apple BUT...
I was wrong...
Apple is not rotten, its FU*KED to its core!
Side with this iSh33p (you better not) or I will post the crap out of you!
WTF??!!! why even do this? I cant go to a concert with my friends and record vidz of having a great time anymore?
I am not bashing but sincerely asking what the hell is wrong with Apple?
And I know no matter what the iSh33p are going to rush to Apple's defense! Man I am asking the fellow iphone users, in all honesty do you think that you want your device for which you paid top dollar to be controlled by Apple or anybody for that matter??? It doesn't matter what device you have, which platform you run and which company you support...this is unreasonable for all smart device users...PERIOD!
I have been called an Apple hater but what do you expect me to do after this? Love Apple? Embrace it? Build a giant freakin Apple monument in Times Square??!!!
Twiiter, Facebook and all of social media will suffer because of this and not only for consumers but business will lose a lot of money which depend on social media for outreach. If you call me a hater then watch me hate Apple as it is the only justified emotion one can feel especially after this patent!
Apple concentrated on patents alone and it shows in the new iPad and iPhone 5...nothing revolutionary came out in these products...both were just the same thing repackaged...hey at least when Steve Jobs said the word revolutionary he would deliver on it!
For once it would be nice to see a leading commpany like Apple change its game, focus on quality and dojustice to the legacy of Steve Jobs!

i agree with you and given the things apple been doing its perfectly okay to hate apple.
48. PhenomFaz (Posts: 1168; Member since: 26 Sep 2012)
man try to reason with the iSh33p and you get banned on PA...they go crying like little girls complaining and reporting your comments...typical iSh33p!

ONE WORLD ORDER.........HENCE THE "I" in the iphone, its all about a false union...and CONTROL!! its not rocket science.........its just prohpecy and their nano chips are apart of the plan........trust me
44. SlimSoulja86 (Posts: 650; Member since: 03 Nov 2011)
The answer according to Apple will be YES.
Why Apple Why. You really don't like us your fans to enjoy any lil bit of freedom we have, now all of us are gonna start jail-breaking our phones. iOS don't give us freedom to download music unless if it's from iTunes, can't use any browser as a default, but Safari, now this, come on, you're chasing us away to Android, cos we loved you due to fluid iOS, now with Project Butter, Android is there, you really want us to stop buying Apple products cos this is the extreme, maximum security, what's next? Blocking my phone if I eat meat?
Now I can see another Samsung ad mocking Apple
At a concert, a guy is screaming and taking a video of himself and his friends, and next to them is guys with iPhones with no camera functionality at all and they all envy Galaxy boy.
47. PhenomFaz (Posts: 1168; Member since: 26 Sep 2012)
hey slim you're an apple user right?
I am glad you can see through Apple's gimmicks. I mean I get it androids dont like Apple users and vice versa BUT this isnt about that.
This is about the ethical implications that come with the patent. I mean no matter which company you are you cant control customers...that;'s bloody tyrany!!!
Its ironic really! Androids are supposed to be part human and part machine...intelligent but controllable. But its Apple who is trying to make real androids out of their customers by putting a leash on their use!

Let's see how this could be used (forget concerts, that's lightweight stuff):
- Against any of the Occupy Movements;
- Against protesters in the Middle East;
- By oppressive regimes in China (or in the West when they pop up)
Can you imagine what J. Edgar Hoover, Nixon, Judge Dredd -- oh, wait, never mind about him...
My question is, can't the cell phone companies do this already? How is this patent different from killing a few towers or disconnecting a given line temporarily?
66. Hemlocke (unregistered)
Go read the patent. This is for people who bring their phones into areas where sensitive information or equipment may reside. iOS and Android handsets can be shut down remotely, but this is a selective outage to protect sensitive areas, such as ops staging areas, military facilities, etc.

No they just want your money like any other company.
37. ZEUS.the.thunder.god (unregistered)
i have to disagree bro. They want more than just money. They want to control people`s lives. They want to eliminate competition by hook or crook. But its never gonna happen. sooner or later Apple will come down one day.

Is this some kind of Apple revolution coming??
And the Government is with them? What is the world coming to?
5. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Try using your cellphone when the motorcade for the POTUS is moving. The technology to disable cellphones was developed in response to IED attacks in Iraq. Unless Apple led this effort, I suspect they will have some problems with invalidity.

7. theBankRobber (Posts: 666; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
They can't get enough of control iPhones and other apple products on how people can use them, but now they feel its OK to control any cell phone Apple can't ban from the US. Using the government to help aid them in how we are told when and where we can use our cell phones and other high tech devices. This will not go well.
23. TROLL (banned) (Posts: 4851; Member since: 13 Apr 2012)
Apple has total control of there users.
9. young0ne (Posts: 20; Member since: 28 Jul 2012)
This is why i don't own a apple device . I'm sick of this company trying to control a device that you bought. I thought that if you buy something you own it and can do what you please. not oh you bought the phone from us but we still control what you can do on it.
10. maxican16 (Posts: 364; Member since: 29 Sep 2011)
WOW. Just wow. Taking a minute to let that settle... Yeah, there's no way to spin this into a good light. Where are the apple faithful on this one? It starts with some gov't excuse for increased security, and spreads to concerts, schools, etc. Who knows where it stops?
Perhaps now the sheep can see why so many cannot stand apple's actions as a company? Probably still wishful thinking.
All I have to say is that I hope, by apple patenting this, it will NEVER sneak its way into other platforms.

As long as the camera still functions, it's not completely a hopeless cause. Police forces are cracking down on being filmed because Big Brother has been doing more and more shady operations. It'll be a dark day when all recording capabilities are blocked because they can do whatever they want with much less restrictions and accountability.
30. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
Camera would be the first function to shut down. Can you imagine if the Rodney King beating video hadn't occurred? Welcome to 1984 in 2012.
45. maxican16 (Posts: 364; Member since: 29 Sep 2011)
Always enjoy reading your comments DXD. This one is a very interesting thought. Let's just say I'm happy things happened when they did.
58. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
I try to post thought-provoking comments. Some times I am more successful than other times.
Back to the article, I predict a market will develop for older 'obsolete' phones that are not susceptible to the new, blocking 'features'. Nothing like having to balance 'security' (secure from malware) against security (secure from 'official' malware), eh?
27. ZEUS.the.thunder.god (unregistered)
I was wondering what would Ray S. and John V. would say about this ?
probably we will have a week full of coverage here on PA, telling people how the new MAGICAL feaure can help you in your everyday life.

Apple should fix the problems their iPhone 5 caused first! Spending money on this BS will do them no good. I hope this is invalidated soon.
24. ZEUS.the.thunder.god (unregistered)
invalidated... yeah just like rounded corners.. with US patent system its never gonna happen. rotten apple
12. nofear (Posts: 151; Member since: 22 Jun 2012)
That's why point-n-shot and DSLR camera rules. Phone-camera is not that good anyway but it's good to have it, for in case that you needed it and because it is not that effective.
Most Android smartphone has MicroSD card slot and you will enjoy this feature more than an iPhone. Because it is an iCrapps.
16. medicci37 (Posts: 1086; Member since: 19 Nov 2011)
As far as apple is concerned. You can never have 2 much control over your devices. & the sheeple who buy them
18. darkvadervip (Posts: 364; Member since: 08 Dec 2010)
I like the idea. Drug dealers call and warning others on drug bust or people talking on cellphones during a movie. It got its point good and bad.

"Smart" part of the iphone is disabled by default. This patent allows them to disable the "phone" part of it... now iphone = plain dumb...

Apple users will still be buying Apple products no matter what Apple decides to restrict there products.
26. Android (Posts: 18; Member since: 04 Dec 2010)
I am glad I don't have an iPhone. Apple can keep that patent and control their users.
29. marchels14 (unregistered)
apple = Skynet, cant anybody see the similarities ,now apple wants more control of technology ,people and power. also they could control all the other phone manufacturer phones with this, and who is the looser in this new apples technological innovation the costumer is because of less freedom we have with this, its my phone i can do with it what i want no what governmental and apple wants, switching my camera and microphone on and of when the want, controlling my life, disabling my camera at concerts and other events, cant i have images and videos that i was there.this is the stupidest and biggest violation of privacy and freedom of speech ever.
31. Mohtastic (Posts: 19; Member since: 24 May 2011)
Apple is buying out any patent it wants, trying so hard to build a future that apple, loyal followers, worshippers, i lined up once for the iphone 5, it was cult like, and reading this its making it clear that apple wants and will try to control their cult, its almost as if we don't own our devices, they own us. Android and WP never looked better. Side note, its funny how before owning an apple product you were viewed as alternate and everything else is mainstream, 2012 owning an apple product is mainstream, showing up with anything else you are alternate.
32. superguy (Posts: 277; Member since: 15 Jul 2011)
I'm sure this would be a very popular feature in Iran or North Korea.
I would be quite happy if Google "let" Apple keep that patent and not infringe upon it.
34. JunkCreek (Posts: 406; Member since: 13 Jul 2012)
owning apple product became main stream, because you have been controlled by apple. like u must use specific plug, adapter and soon, you hardly export any personal data entered, limited cutomization and tweaks. but, may for only user apple is enough, but for me as i almost an advanced user, i always found a thing or two that blocked some of my "action" over my system so i always want administrator rights with more risks than just became a "guest" or "limited" account (if in windows xp/vista/7) that often prevent/prohibit any customization which make things easier even with less risks, but i know the consequences.

I have never gone to a concert in a military base neither I want to, glad to see the haters here, I for once am happy for this because people cannot live without their phone. I cross the Mexican border all the time and they are messages that clearly states "don't use you phone" and what do people do ... so instead of hating on Apple hate on those people that cannot go 5 minutes without their phone.. go out enjoy life and put your phone away..
43. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
lmao an apple troll telling people to go out and enjoy life, you lost sight of the real world ages ago mate
why are your comments always the most apple devoted crap on here
46. PhoneCritic (Posts: 466; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
Think of the implication. Are we willing to sacrifice our liberties just for protection? This goes very deep. I really don't think this type of control is necessary. If I purchase a car neither Ford or GM should have the abilities to shut it down because I decide to run a stop sign. No I should suffer the consequences of my actions. The manufacture relinquishes all rights to the car once I exchange my financial resource for it. When I receive a Ticket Ford or GM does not pay for it? Why should Apple be able to control my device if they relinquish the rights to it after selling it to me in exchange for my cash? This is to BIG Brother.
51. gallitoking (Posts: 4704; Member since: 17 May 2011)
there are stupid people in this world. that's why... there are places when a cell phone is not permitted but people disregard that... you who what is going to be next.. driving and using the phone, I see that happening because of stupid people. to me that would be worse than this but give it a few years, I don't like any of this but it is what it is.. at least here in the States we are being more controlled than before.. btw I agree with you
56. PhoneCritic (Posts: 466; Member since: 05 Oct 2011)
I understand what you are saying there will always be people who do stupid things. Like eating when driving or putting on makeup while driving not to say as you mentioned texting or talking on a cell phone while driving. People who engage in such activities should lose their licensing if caught for the infraction. Because we have become a society that relies more and more on our devices (sad but true) which hold our personal information, Pictures, Music, Videos contacts, mail, etc... The whole thing seems a little bit more personal almost like we are all being violated personally. I really hope that the US Patent office re-evaluates this patent and invalidates it. I believe the ACLU and others will have plenty to say about this.
