Apple looking to hire new SoC designer

0. phoneArena posted on 03 Oct 2012, 15:45

Apple designed its own system-on-a-chip (SoC) with the A6 that powers the new iPhone 5, and it looks like it isn't stopping there. Apple is obviously going to keep on this trend, but it is still working towards finding a new hire that can help lead the team in designing the next Apple SoC...

It looks like Apple is asking for more trouble.

iPhone 5 is 1300 EUR in my country, i wonder if anyone still buying this thing with its stupid build quality that's even worse than Nexus 7's

23. pikapowerize (banned) posted on 03 Oct 2012, 20:36 1 6

actually the aluminum back is the only thing that is not pleasant on the iPhone...

but build quality is superb! have you seen the drop test between s3 and iPhone 5? s3 broke down on the 2nd test while iPhone got only scraches..

im not fanboying here.. i only said that coz i saw it!

25. PapaSmurf posted on 03 Oct 2012, 21:52 3

Everything else thats on it is the same as it was in 07. Idk how people buy the same phone every year and not realize that it's not worth it.

But its their choice I guess.. Whatever makes them happy.

27. pikapowerize (banned) posted on 03 Oct 2012, 22:21 1 1

you're absolutely right!

i really hate when people hate people who bought an iPhone... i mean its their choice and they love it.. that makes them happy and besides its their money! and their life!

28. rusticguy posted on 03 Oct 2012, 22:39 1

What i bother about most is how much money i have to "actually drop" from my pocket and not these drop tests which are just for academic interests with no practical value because when you accidently drop a device you don't drop it the way these tests are done. Probability of device going out of service after an actual drop these days is same for all in nrealtime scenario. Rest everything about build quality is marketing stunt. So if i can save $500 (India) and get SIII instead of IP5 (or even Note II) why would i ever bother about IP5? Who cares if it 's aluminium or polycarbonate... a case is needed in any case for all and on an average phones are replaced in ~3 years here (India)

I wonder how will this drop test turn out against a Nokia lumia 900

3. juanyunis posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:04 1 2

well, i hope this is just for iOS devices, because if they drop intel platform from their computers, well that would really suck.

4. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:07 1 3

"So, if any of you out there happen to have 10 years experience in SoC design, Apple may be willing to give you a lot of money for your services. "

Wrong place!

Everytime Apple tries to take something into their own hands it becomes to an fail so, I won't be expecting from that much.

Amazing that a company that's such a failure is #1 n the world based on market cap value.

12. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 17:08 1 1

Who cares in which place Apple is while such things are happening. People are buying real products not companie's fame or place in an statistic table...

Usually after new smartphone release you can check YouTube and find customers complaints about one or two main problems. But when I have searched for "iPhone 5 Problems" in YouTube, I was SHOCKED, I have found so much people complaining about so much different iPhone 5 problems. Not one or two main problems but DOZENS of different problems! Maybe it is just me, but I have never before saw so much complaints about such big amount of different problems for one single smartphone after so short time after release!

There is a bunch of different screen problems like a flickering, bad screen sensitivity, even yellow marks on the screen or flashing.
There is bunch of complaints about antenna problems.
There is complaints about Ambient Light Sensor problems.
There is complaints about various sound problems.
There is complaints about purple tints in pictures.
There is complaints about iPhone 5 scratches out of the box.
There is complaints about WiFi problems.
And so on and on...

And I'm even not talking about iOS 6 or Apple Maps problems...

And you know what is the most pathetic in this case, that Apple already knew about some of these problems even before release. For example about build quality problems they knew even before release but they just dont care about that...

Watch video:
"Foxconn Worker Claims New iPhone 5 is Poorly Made"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0l4vpyQIafY

And you know what Apple's response is the same as always: "IT IS NORMAL!"
Purple tints on Apple iPhone 5 pictures is the camera's normal behavior or iPhone 5 scratches out of the box are also normal...

And everyone who don't believe what I say about all these problems and or think that I'm just trolling, just go to YouTube and search for "iPhone 5 Problems" also you can find many complains on Google, just Google for it! ;)

P.S.
And please don't say that I'm trolling because:
1) It is my opinion.
2) It is based on real customers complaints out of the internet.
3) It is based on many articles in different web sites.

you wont believe my next statement... every iphone has problems and customer compliants. but the shocker comes.. they keep buying Apple. 95% customer satisfaction.. you can find the 5% in you tube the 95% dont post just enjoy their device..

17. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 17:38 2 2

Yes, gallitoking, I know about that and it is SHOCKING!!!
I'm also sorry to say that but in my opinion it just proves theory that the big part of people buy iPhone just because of brand name. :(

P.S.
Have you bought iPhone 5?
If yes, then what is your experience with it?

18. romeoc1984 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 18:08 5

Your also just crying...Just dont buy anything Apple. Simple as that.

20. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 18:56 1 1

No, I'm not crying, I'm just discussing and state the fact.

21. Peter98 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 19:15 4

Ok. Stop! Don't just critic that Apple. Go back to your Android land and have yr cup of black oil.

22. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 19:19

But it is not fake story created by me. :D

iPhone 5 + iOS 6 = Titanic

31. Hemlocke posted on 04 Oct 2012, 18:02

The A6 is an in-house design, and it is far from a failure.

5. yowanvista posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:36 2 3

In few years - Apple: "We totally reinvented the processor with our blah blah stupid tech.." and also don't forget all those square IC's will now have rounded corners and woe to the chip designer who packages their IC's with rounded corners!

8. Nathan_ingx posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:38 2

Designer for SoC??
The A6 chip is fine enough Apple.
What you really need is a designer for LoD (Read 'Look of Device')! :P

9. ilia1986 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:42 5 3

Dear Apple

Better hire a lifeguard.

Because recently you've been drowning in FAIL.

Sincerely yours - your ex-customer.

P.S. Galaxy S3 kicks ass!! :D

10. som posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:45 3 2

Judge Koh is qualify for that position.

11. Apple_Royally_ (banned) posted on 03 Oct 2012, 16:47 3

Apple needs and requires this, cause what they do is quality and no like others.
Today chips are always laid out using advanced CAD, like software, the designers say he wants x cache y. and z cores and the software automagically creates a chip. Hand drawn CPUs on the other hand are painstakingly laid out by chip designers. Thats why its so expensive. Apple would never use qualcom or omap. obly best will do. Exynos.

13. PhoneArenaUser posted on 03 Oct 2012, 17:10 1 1

And I'm sure that you don't understand about what you are tolking about. ;)

19. mail2ankit82 posted on 03 Oct 2012, 18:28 1

What your are saying is utter crap and totally wrong. Guess you do not anything about the Hardware industry and do not even know the difference between a CPU and a SoC

"Hand drawn CPUs on the other hand are painstakingly laid out by chip designers" - Are you seriously kidding????

PS: Coming from someone who has worked on many CPU and SoC teams.

24. pikapowerize (banned) posted on 03 Oct 2012, 20:38 1

they should hire those people from TI... since TI will exit Mobile Chips making! so i think they should use their talent as part of apple...

they should use their talent in short! they shouldn't hide it.. TI cant stop them!

30. IHateApple posted on 04 Oct 2012, 05:47 1

Really? You better get a good camera lens maker, a better design maker and a better iOS designer. You have vertical integration and use it for nothing but $#!T!!!
