Apple is building its own Maps, but will it matter?

0. phoneArena 02 Nov 2011, 16:05 posted on

Apple has obviously been busy at work building its own map application to replace Google Maps on iOS, but what does Apple Maps need to be able to do, and when will we see it?...

So wrong Robes.. Did you mean Apples version was made using crayon? And where do you get your info bro? Your saying Apples version will be better than googles tried and true maps? doubtful they will catch up.. Look at siri.. How long did that take? Iris was slapped together in 8 hours.. Opposed to what? The amount of data required to best google maps... Apple isn't going to throw that together and with everything being done by google already where will Apples innovation come from? "we give you iView... Actual street views.. Revolutionary!" Horsesh*t...

I really want to see one company to make an amazing Map and every platform just uses it. So, different companies don't have to invest their money on redundant stuff...

I'm sure Apple is going to try, but I'm finding it hard to see exactly how it'll happen. Google isn't slowing down in improving Google Maps, so Apple will have to jump pretty far ahead to do it.

Google maps on the iPhone sucks, that's why I use Mapquest app. I do agree, most anything that Apple would come out with would be way better then the iOS Google maps. you would think after 5 years it would have voice guided nav stock.

no, you are afraid of a real bet. the only bet you are willing to do is phone vs phone which is an uneven bet at best. Just a sad sad troll, thats you.

for someone that claims that apple is the undisputed sales leader and the iphone is always the most phone sold by wide margins, u should take the bet.
Samsung doesnt release a new phone every week. In fact, right now they have about the same amount of phones out as apple. SGS1, SGS2, and a few side variants.
callin a spade a spade.. and a chicken a chicken.

again dont play me for a fool... remix you are better than that... lets do the iphone vs the galaxy phones... then ... and to clear... iphone outsells any other .. listen.... phone... not company... sometimes you fool me.. when i think you are inteligent .. you show me otherwise... so is it the galaxy S phones vs the iphones... mr. remix... and dont call me out because I issue a real challenge,,, identity vs identity.. show your ugly face... if you lose... so unless you accept my bet.. dont bother me with your kiddie bets....

gallito..
i... dont have...to play you .. for..a...fool...... you..do that well.. on your.... own....

company..to...company is the...bet you should... think of it as ...brand to...brand. People..come in to buy i....phones.... and androids most people...dont... ask for the bulk of android..phones... by name....individual... android phones are just starting... to get brand.. identities... That is why its a... samsung...vs....apple fight... not an iphone vs galaxy...fight.. which you are actually...at a disadvantage on.... because the SGS2 has been outselling the.... iphone worldwide... for months.... since the day it was released....woopsie....... if it were a fresh phone vs a fresh....phone.... i would go for it... but the release cycles.... do not match up. i5 vs....SGS3 if they launch...about the same time...would be a very fair fight... and I would take you up on that.

The nexus... has never been a top seller.... but it has also never been availible in...store.... so its performance is ...unproven...and not a good bet to... make.

I wrote this in your... language so you would under...stand... it better.. did it help?

" if it were a fresh phone vs a fresh....phone.... i would go for it... "

i did say the SGSII vs the iphone 4S at the beginning and you chicken out... launch days were days appart... and you didnt go for it...

in the US.. lets keep it simple... doubt you wil take my bet... highly doubt

I have no control over the ban hammer, and I honestly don't really know what the forum rules are. My job is to write the posts and chat with you lovely folk (although that second part may not technically be part of the job description.) And, I can say from experience that if you engage with Taco reasonably, he has the capacity to respond in kind. He tends to take things a bit too seriously, so if you do too, there's likely going to be a problem. Don't start none, won't have none.

The best I can say is if someone is really causing a disturbance, theoretically their comments will be reported enough that the guys upstairs take action. I don't know more than that.

lol.. can anyone's posts possibly be reported more often than taco's?

normally he is the instigator, not the victim, michael.. in probably 95% of his posts.

No, taco has a place.. his idiot ramblings and his love of saying stupid things to push buttons drive up comments in the section... which of course drive up incrimental add revenue for the site. Thats my theory on why he is the least moderated though the biggest troll on the site.

Best way to get rid of him is to not reply to him and continue to report him.. there for he would serve no actual purpose.

The fact you get moderated all the time proves the troll is you. In your defense I think a lot of times you just are too dumb to understand how wildly incorrect you are.

Soon your stupidity will lead to a self imposed ban though. Hopefully Sniggly and some of the rest follow.

As I said, Taco does take things too seriously at times, but I've always ended up having good interactions with him, even when he starts out a little too fired up. There are ways to have reasonable conversations with everyone, no matter how much you disagree. It's a lesson not often learned on the net.

at times.. your talking 90% of the time. Yes, for a while he was acting better and actually making productive chatter more than flame trolling.. that time was a short stint and the bulk of everything he does is just trolling the threads saying crap to get a rise out of people. Everyone does it from time to time, but that is gallito and his purpose on the thread.
Any points that he does actually have normally get drowned out by all the stupidity that he says otherwise.
He doesnt contribute a darn thing.. not knowledge, never answers a question helpfully, nor can hold a random conversation without acting retarded most of the time. The only thing he contributes are site hits by people coming to watch what stupid things he says and yell at him. Again, which is why i think he hasnt been actually banned... especially with the heavy modding hand thats starting to come around the forum.

That's a good idea. It's strange to have google maps on IOS device. It will take them some time to finish it. But knowing Apple, when they complete it, it will be sth special.
Maybe sth which could be as good as Nokia Maps...and working offline.
On the other side, Apple and those stupid restrictions...

I hope your not as foolish as you look right now....you would allow yourself to be blinded by your own love of Google to get rid of the only 'true' competition that stands between Google becoming a monopoly (Win Phone7 is a joke). Sad indeed...and Android fans constantly brag about the low cost of their devices but with competition gone it will NOT stay that way.

I don't get that kind of articles. There are useles.. of course that it WILL matter.
For applefans for example.
Maybe not this year, but next 6 or 12 months it can evolve to something really interesting.
There is always room for innovations.
There are two good map apps.
Nokia Maps (which can work in offline which is a huge advantage) and google maps for android.
Why not create third one and let customers choose?
There is a group of clients which are looking at that kinds of apps. For me, phone without good maps or camera is useless, because I use it in daily basis.
So...go Apple! Only don't copy/paste others solutions:]
