I like how you call it a "retina display" yet also make a disclaimer at the end of the article saying its not... My thoughts: if an iphone has retina (*human eye cant see pixels within a foot) than I think its safe to call 260ppi a retina display since holding the ipad a foot close to your face is ridiculous.
Most will hold an iPad about 2 feet away. At THAT distance you wont distinguish a pixel. So call it a retina display, after all, apple did make up the word I think that entitles them to make up the definition

what you say is true but of course apple WILL claim otherwise, retina display will be perfect for all those drones of ifans out there who wil view their ipad with their eyes 5mm away from the screen to get the apple retina experience

And you probably love android tablets which didn't exist until Apple created a market. It's hilarious to see fandroids call Apple fans drones and then you guys go out and buy copycat products.

I agree, tablets are held at around 1.5'-2' away from the user, while phones are held around 10"-12" from the user. So I think it's safe to call any tablet screen with a 240PPI or higher density a Retina display. Besides, for it to have the exact same PPI as the iPhone 4/4S, it would need a screen res of 2560X1920 which would be the next step up in 4:3 display and would also be friggin expensive/unnecessary.
