A new report says that a new "worldmode" iPhone with CDMA2000 will be compatible with Verizon's network and retain UMTS 3G connectivity thanks to a new hybrid chip from Qualcomm...

I've been told smaller is ok as long as I know how to use it. Hopefully it comes with an instruction manual.

Don't worry, if Apple proves consistent, they'll release an upgrade in 3 months or a year that will have the bigger screen...

Trust me -- there's lots of AT&T customers that are staying for just the iPhone. Which really doesn't make sense to me. The iPhone is good, regardless of what anyone on this site says. But AT&T has some major problems in really large cities -- mostly due to the iPhone. There's plenty of people that will switch if VZW gets it.

While I do agree this could happen, I doubt it will only tout a 2.8" display. That's smaller than the Dare, the Versa, etc. I have always said VZW will get an iPhone-type device by the end of next year, and I think it's plausible about the chipset, but the size I think is not accurate. As much as I love Apple's computers and the iPhone, sans ATT, I wouldn't even go for an iPhone that was THAT much smaller than the current one. I would buy one though if it were not any smaller than 3". I wouldn't mind to see the size shrunk down a bit from the current iPhone just for fit and feel while in my pocket. The size and weight of my Storm is just getting old when it's in my pockets, and I hate the look/feel of holsters!

These rumors are getting ridiculous. Theres no way verizon should settle for a "2.8"in screen phone when they are coming out with 3.0 in and up? my lg dare is 3.0 and to me thats small! I would like to see an iphone on verizon but Iam not that desprate. They should make it like a 4.3 like so called rumors of the htc passion in my opinon.

I was also one of those waiting and hoping for a VZW iphone. After reading on all these phone sites I believe that this wouldn't happen for at least 2-3 years or until LTE is widespread across the U.S. So I jumped on the Droid the day it came out (replacing my Samsung i760 windows phone). I WILL NEVER LOOK BACK !! The Droid is awesome. I purchased the desktop cradle and the car dock and use them both daily. But to not go off on a rant, why would anyone in their right mind get a 2.8" screen !!! With the current crop of high-end smartphone starting to sport 800x480 resolutions it would be taking a HUGE step backwards ! ! ! If anyone from VZW ever reads this thread, DON'T DO IT !!!

I hope VZW gets the Iphone, so ATT can go after a real high-end phone!! VZW wouldn't accept a 2.8 screen.

i might sound really stupid saying this, but there is a possibility big red will sell two different sized iphones, obviously the bigger being the more expensive and the smaller being the less expensive.

I dunno, it might just be me, or the above picture isn't quite accurate, but the "2.8" doesn't actually look all that much smaller than the standard 3.5" one, next to it.

OMG people !!! Verizon is not going to come out with a CDMA version of the iphone. There whole idea of releasing the Droid phones is to put the iphone where it belongs on the back burner Verizon is not going to release the iphone so get over it. I agree with others here with the release of the HTC Passion sometime in January 2010 with a 4.3 inch screen and an open source os, why on earth would anyone want a 2.8 and a mediocre os.

Say what you want, but the new iPhone, no matter what the form factor, will be badass. Everyone knows it, but won't admit it. Come June 2010, I will be upgrading my 3GS for the new one. I can't wait to see what the new iPhone will bring. Get your Droid, Passion, HD2, or whatever. I know what I will be buying.
