A new report says that a new "worldmode" iPhone with CDMA2000 will be compatible with Verizon's network and retain UMTS 3G connectivity thanks to a new hybrid chip from Qualcomm...

These rumors are ridiculous. I could see them finding an iphone that had "verizon" written on it with a sharpie and assuming it is a new prototype.

Okay really if this is what brings the allegiance of Iphone users to Verizon whatever, to be honest the droid that they launched has been only beginning of something that really will put the iphone on the back burner because of what that phone has to offer. Not saying the Iphone is finished but it is really going to have it's hands full if it wants to continue its dominance. I really don't see them launching something that will limit the current Iphone unless they start to streamline the current models going forward I really don't see this an issue. Though I would start to consider maybe just maybe by the time if a verizon branded Iphone lands to verizon the Droid based 2.0 OS and more makes that phone looks just silly.

Am I the only person that noticed the picture above has a picture of neither IPhone screen size. It shows and 2.8" on right and a 3.2" on left. Not 3.49" which is what the current Iphone is. So will there be two models?

how would a 2.8" iphone compete with a 3.7" droid (or 4.3" if the passion rumours are true...)? verizon would be laughed at for such an inferior iphone and with their push for bigger and better smartphones, it just doesnt make any sense...

I was already bored with the iPhone, but now with a 2.8 inch display? Really? I would have to agree with the above comment and question who in the world would buy that phone, but then I remember all the mindless sheep who want an iPhone because its the "it" device, even though an iPhone with a display that small would be far inferior to at least a couple of Verizon's current phones.

Sales of a lesser device like this one will be comprised of a) people who don't know any better, and b) AT&T iphone customers suffering with poor service who are just THAT desparate to jump ship. I'm hung up over the Eris' 3.2" screen being not big enough. I wouldn't touch a 2.8" iphone or any other phone with a 10ft pole unless they were giving it away and waving the data plan fee for the duration of the contract. Fat chance that will happen. Nice FAIL there, Apple.

Yeah sure cuz any kind of "cool" factor justification for purchasing a phone falls entirely in the lap of those that didn't want one on ATTs network. In fact, I think the opposite could be said...those people that wanted to "look cool" first jumped on a phone to be the first ones to have the newest/coolest toy and in the process helped bankroll a shitty, two-faced, empty promising company in the process. You ATT/iPhone fanboys/girls are the biggest hypocrites on this site!

instinctDemon, your post is right on. I feel that the more people I know that have an iPhone use it becuase it makes them look cool, rather than because they actually like apple. Apple's marketing is GENIUS! They make a decent product, make sheep want to buy it, then 4 months later release a slightly better product that is identical in almost every way, then market that the new one is soooooo much better that the sheep that bought the first generation would look so stupid for carrying the old one that they "NEED" to upgrade to the new one and spend another rediculous amount of money. There was a MadTV sketch that made fun of this very topic. the "iScrewed" sketch. It is funny.

KiltLifter, It's always gonna be that way with every phone I remember when the RAZR came out my buddy shelled out $700.00! and then Poof everyone had to get one, I laughed cause after 3 months, the people that had the original V3, the V3i with iTunes came out. People are like sheep when it comes to the "latest and greatest". Yeah I laughed when the iPhone 3G came out then the Palm Pre came out then Apple added "Now with Video" with the 3GS only 3 months after rolling the 3G. LOL
