Apple iPhone 5c rises from the dead, outsells Android flagships, Windows Phone and more in Q4?

0. phoneArena 24 Mar 2014, 02:06 posted on

According to sales numbers computed by multiple sources, the Apple iPhone 5c sold 12.8 million units in the fourth quarter of last year. Apple sold 51 million iPhones in that three month period, a mere 4 million behind expectations which resulted in the stock getting spanked. But based on these same sources, the Apple iPhone 5s sold 31.9 million units with 6.4 million attributed to the Apple iPhone 4s...

My post was in relation to the final sentence of your post. You were going on about how people need to make an informed decision and get what they want. Then you tell him that rather than save his money on whatever he got, he should've got what he wanted instead. Considering he apparently got what he wanted, what were you implying he should be gotten? His post pointed at several phones that are just as capable as the iPhone for everyday users, but for a lot less. It sounds like he was informed enough to know that.

But tell me, don't you think the two reports I mentioned seem to be opposite of each other?

And lastly, I won't bother to explain myself? If you're gonna make it sound lime you have respect for me, don't follow that with "Well if you don't know I'm not going to tell you." This was not about getting green thumbs or any of that BS. If I misinterpreted the meaning of the final sentence, why not clear the matter than say I'm mistaken and not explain why I am.

So there's the 8GB version 5C, sure okay but take a second to think that Apple also stated that the 5C really didn't go "in line" with what they were expecting. That's not to say that the 5C wasn't going to beat the s4 or WP in sales, and they do have 3 million devices stuck in inventory. It's just not as bad as some of us try to make it out to be

PS. There's nothing wrong with a brand's "status", it's something earned over time.

So if it's not in line with what they were expecting, why come out with the same thing but with less storage space? Especially if the 5c in fact is doing so well? Why wouldn't they simply continue to sell what they have rather than make even more but with less storage so they could sell them for a lower price? Why not then simply reduce the price of the current 5c models in stock?

Most of what you said makes sense and would add to why the 5c sold so many units vs Android flagships. When it comes to the iPhone you have 3 choices. Most people want the new phone and narrow it down to the 5c and 5s. As the numbers show the 5s very easily out sold the 5c but at the end of the day Apple sells a mertric boatload of phones so the 5c still gets some love.

As far as your 5c 8GB model comment, it could just be the fact that maybe Apple as a ton of 8GB flash sitting around and decided to put in the 5c vs the 4s which will be getting the boot soon. Just a thought.

If they did in fact have a bunch of 8GB flash memory sitting around, why wouldn't they use it on their media players? Don't they still make the iPod Nano or Shuttle? Less memory in those devices makes more sense than in a phone with a full fledged OS.

+1 dude, this is real talk right here. Why should people get all worked up about an iphone? I think a little jealousy plays a part in this.

When you make an informed purchase on what you actually want, that's being smart with your money. You're the type that feels a person should buy what you consider to be a good product, real life doesn't work that way. Every one with a Benz coulda saved money by buying a Camry, but they bought what they worked to get. A smart purchase isn't only about what you save, it's about what you want and what makes you happy. What if a person doesn't like the G, or the nexus 5, what if they feel unattracted to those devices? What if they had their heart set on a 5c, and saved for it, should they not get it cuz it cost more? Your post was very child like dude. People buy what they want, when they can afford it plain and simple. Maybe you're the dummy with your money, only buying based on price rather than what you actually want.

no its not a symbol of marquesofpresitge or emblem, and no apple is not merc, merc they give every feautre and specs like what s4 htcone sonyz lg2 provide fully loaded
it has no 1080p, still daulcore, apple believe in high ppi only 327ppi, we are on 470ppi

cheap aluminium and gorrila glass, merc bmw audi use the very best like what ss sony lg htc use not low quality budget cheap materials

Lol samsung doesn't use low quality budget materials? What world do you live in? Nokia's polycarbonate phones feel sturdier than samsung. Those samsung phones are injection molded polycarbonate, they can churn out thousands in a very short time. Your one of those ppl that think specs are all that matter aren't you? It doesn't have 1080, or quad core or 20 core, blah blah. Funny that it runs buttery smooth on that dual core processor, and has some of the best graphics in a phone. Raw specs aren't the only thing that matter, Apple controls the hardware and software, and iOS is very well optimized to run on a dual core CPU, it DOESNT NEED QUADCORE. Why waste processing power and battery life when its not needed? You need to learn that just because the higher the number doesn't always mean better performance, and them touting those high specs is marketing. Why did the S4 lag when it first came out with those high end latest specs? Because the software wasn't optimized well, touchwiz is a resource hog. I personally liked touchwiz when i used a note 3 for awhile, but it is a resource hog. Ppl buy an iPhone because it suits their needs and they like iOS, maybe they have other Apple products and like the seamless integration/syncing. Maybe they like the ecosystem Apple has. Its more than just a status symbol. Why don't you look past your blind hate for a moment and think of the other possible reasons ppl buy an iPhone. Also I'm sorry but at a point, the human eye cannot discern individual pixels anymore. Im not gonna say its the 326 PPI Apple says, but i can say my iPhone 5S looks great and i don't see any pixels or jagged edges or anything. I hold my phone at a normal viewing distance, not up to my nose or under a microscope. Im happy with it the way it is, otherwise id switch to something else. Apple doesn't play in that specs game for a reason. The aluminum doesn't feel cheap at all, and you have no clue what kind of aluminum they use or what their cost for it is, so your doing nothing but hating there. I suppose HTC's aluminum is cheap too then? Anyway I'm done with your trolling hate, i got other things to do than set a blind troll straight.

hello pushing a 960x640 screen is a weak gpu and a cpu

ios is on unix anandtech said ios is a very light os

if specs didnt matter why the ip5s needs to upgrade there cpu gpu

resource hog is touchwiz, its time to push arm cortex a15 not use a9 cortexs800

the s3 to s4 i felt the power diffrence the ip4s to ip5 i felt the power diffrence

a car loaded with 300bhp and modified to 350 there is a huge diffrence

there more the ppi the more refined clarity it becomes to some homework look at ip3gs vs ip4,5 ppi everyone can see the diffrence

then why dont you be happy with an ip4 and never by what apple ip6,7,8,9 will bring specs and power is whats all about

720p to 1080p is a big diffrence

I'm the proud owner of a Verizon Motorola Moto G that cost me $99 dollars. I brought the Verizon Moto G because it fit my needs. I need a phone that runs on Verizon because Verizon works best where I live. I used my phone as a phone for the most part.

If a person feels any iPhone fits their needs and wants to buy one, then they should buy one. I see women carrying iphones all day at work. Most of them don't care about innovation. I'm willing to bet innovation never crosses their mind. Their iPhone fits their needs, so they brought one. It's as simple as that for most people.

Exactly. Good post. The blind Apple haters don't see it that way though. They think that anyone that buys an iPhone is dumb, don't know anything about tech, or whatever other stupid reason they come up with. Everyone has a personal preference and different phones suit ppls needs differently. I personally prefer an iPhone. I like iOS, I have other Apple products and they sync flawlessly with each other, i like the ecosystem. I have attempted to switch to Android a few times and while i liked some things, I always went back to the iPhone, as it just had things that i liked better about it. Its my money to spend, just like its everyone else's money to spend and as long as they are happy with what they spent it on, then thats what matters. These trolls shouldn't concern themselves with what OTHER ppl spend their money on. No single phone is perfect for everyone, and more choices are better than less choices. If a person chooses an iPhone, who cares, THEIR CHOICE, if someone chooses Android, WP, Blackberry, again same thing, its their choice, don't worry about it. Use what you like and let everyone else enjoy what they like.

I just bought a Samsung 40" UN40F5500AF Smart TV at Best Buy yesterday for $489.00... Cheaper than the ip5C. O.o And a lot of other phones for that matter. What in the hell happened to the price of a phone. Apple did it! :(

Without context this article loses big points. First point of context, it yet again, addresses individual phones which is apple's strongsuit since they offer 3. Apple shipped 51M units (shipped and sold are 2 different monsters as Apple fanboys are usually keen to point out) Samsung shipped 86M in Q4. Not really a fair comparison is it? 5C by most standards was a afailure, Let's assume your numbers are right and it moved 13M units, in 2012 Apple shipped 17.4M 4s in the same time frame last year. So while they had growth in their high end market of approx 4M units, growth in the cheap market of about 3M. Basically people in a healthy number of purchases chose to go to the cheaper iPhone 4s rather than the iPhone 5c. Apple nearly doubled their cheaper phone sales but shrunk midrange.

Then the premise itself of the arguement is dumb as well. I already touched on Apple's different sales strategy than Android devices, but what I didn't touch on was launch cycles. iPhone was still in it's new launch cycle in Q4 as they launched the new phones at the tail end of Q3. GS4 was a Q2 launch. And again that's even giving into the idea that sales of an individual model matter.

A lot of speculation going on here, anyone have any actual sales figures? Some months on some carriers, the S4 outsells the 5C, other months on other carriers it's the opposite. I might also add, iPhones always sell high volume when they are released. Any data for Dec-Feb?

Too many people getting upset over unspecified data.

Are you particularly aware of which website you happen to be perusing? Here, I'll help you out: PhoneArena. Or, in other words, a place where phones are contested.

Now, if the site were called FootballArena then yes, by all means I would expect such fervor over phones to be out of place. However, then I would fully expect the same level of fervor over names like Seahawks, or Cowboys.

In retrospect... Would a baseball analogy have worked better???

Dumb isheople talk about apple outselling Android. But it's ONLY in the US and we all know that you're (the US) dumb as a very dumb thing. The entire rest of the world knows where it's at (that's Android for you US reader.)
The Japanese are having a temporary fad for apple too, but they're excused on the grounds that they're Japanese.
