I think Apple will get 1% market share in China and other developing countries in a few years.

1% of one billion is 10 million, not 1 million.

@microsoftnokiawin: If that is how Microsoft and Nokia do math, the combined company is SOOO screwed.

After first rumors about iPhone 5C, I was alreay saying that any cheap Apple phone or tablet won\'t be popular because people who loves to show off won\'t buy cheap device even if it has Apple logo on it! Why? Because according to this kind of Apple lovers - CHEAP IS NOT COOL!
Geeks also won\'t buy it because cheaper Apple phone or tablet won\'t have latest specs.

The iPhone 5 sold quite well. Btw, the 5C is a rebadged iPhone 5 using a plastic shell selling at a lower price point.

I've read somewhere it's $450 off contract in the US. The choice of replacing Aluminum with Polycarbonate is a $200 difference? Seriously Apple?

I hear aluminum is actually one of the cheapest metals. Some Samsung phones use even cheaper feeling materials and go for much more than that.

I also think that €599 is far too much for 2012 smartphone. €450 would have been fine. Especially given that you get a more premium brand new iPhone 5 for €535 on the internet. But well, I am on an iPhone 4 right now and that microphone is not working good anymore. Getting an iPhone 5S. I am planning to get an iPhone 6 next year as well. But that will work fine because iPhone sell well on the internet. Over one year, I might lose €150 up to maybe €200 which isn\'t too much per month. But well, that is just my opinion of course :)

Aluminum is very cheap and not premium at all. The same stuff on your iphone is what they make soda cans out of.

\"aluminum is actually one of the cheapest metals\" -- true, but misunderstood by the uneducated.

A ton of roll steel goes for pretty cheap because it is a commodity.

Once you start processing that steel, the price goes up.

And if you get to the price of steel springs used in expensive watches, the price of that steel is very expensive.

It\'s what Apple does with aluminium that determines the value of the aluminum as opposed to raw aluminium. That is to any smartphone manufacturer using the SAME raw aluminium will not get the look, feel, and polish of an Apple products.

It\'s like saying you and I can start with the same ingredients, but our food will look like crap compared with a five-star chef using the identical ingredients, respectively.

Moral of post: raw aluminum is cheap; however, processed aluminium is not.

Ok...isn\'t that obvious? You can same the same exact thing for processed plastic as well. How does that help us here? What we should be comparing is raw vs raw material because since we don\'t know the details of processing, that\'s the only thing we can go off of.

Moral of story is that it probably doesn\'t cost that much more to both buy the materials and make the iPhone 5. As long as the iPhone 5C doesn\'t feel like a galaxy phone, I think they\'re good.

It is not $450 off-contract. They misread the information, that's the new price for an iPhone 4S. The off-contract price for 5C is $549 (not included tax)

I'll be honest I wasn't expecting the 5C to be priced anywhere near any of the mid-tier Android phones. Maybe an mid/upper-tier Win8. But to off the 5 & use the 5C in its stead?!

My logic must really be bad because I was really expecting something like...
5S- $199/16GB & up
5- $99/8GB
5C- Somewhere around $49-$79/8GB

I like the lesser model now having storage size options, but that price is killing me.
There was no need to kill the 5 for this.
I'm just really surprised they didn't pull an iPod mini & put a 2-3yr old screen on it, & have a jacked up price.

This just proves once again that Apple is all about making as much money of its blind followers.

Now the Nokia Lumia 1520 is built with quality materials and will go on sale for $425 off contract.

Need I say anymore!

Apple is sitting on $150 billion dollars of profits. Apple is not going anywhere but the bank.
Business 101. Make a product that people like, then sell it for as much as possible. Apple has that down pat.

Whole 5C doesn't make sense, unless it's a way of shifting design concepts slowly. It was reported to be a cheaper model for China, how is an expensive phone going to hold up against that plan? Maybe in a few weeks or months new information will arise and this will make sense, right now it doesn't.
