0. phoneArena 12 Sep 2012, 15:20 posted on
Alright, now that we got the final specs of the newest iPhone, let's pit it against the pack leaders of the other mobile operating system. The Samsung Galaxy S III is the undisputable Android bestseller and will be so for a good while, while a recent survey showed that the vast majority of future Windows Phone owners are likely to pick the Nokia Lumia 920 when it becomes available...

Wow the nokia rolled over the competition like the tank that it is :) ftw
4. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
lol nokia is good no lie....but the operating may be the downfall here pal.......in which i would go with the S3 FTW and also the weight of the nokia is a bit too much jus for a better camera when the S3 has a great camera already.....not better than nokia of course but still a great camera............So the S3 is the winner indeed
7. Mobile-X-Pert (Posts: 565; Member since: 20 Dec 2010)
It´s not just a better camera, it´s a better screen, better and long lasting design; better maps, better sound quality, more color options, ....etc.
15. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
maybe............... but i still would choose the S3 because im not totally sold on windows phones yet......sorry bruh but i wouldnt get a windows phone right now jus the way it is...
41. arsenaljimenez (Posts: 139; Member since: 03 May 2012)
You seriously need to give windows a fair shot, use it as a regular phone, you'll see there are few things you will be disappointed about/
54. bayusuputra (Posts: 941; Member since: 12 Feb 2012)
agree, I still choose android because I am in love for tweaking my device to my heart's content (custom ROMs etc), but for daily usage, WP is actually great..
I don't really care who comes out the top, the Galaxy or the Lumia, but I just wanna say sorry to apple that they are making an outdated piece of shat again to compete with the beasts..
71. arsenaljimenez (Posts: 139; Member since: 03 May 2012)
Agreed, I honestly like android
but In my opnion suited more for tech savy people
If you know how to tweak android and all that its awesome
but for normal people, wp is so simple, so easy to use
its literally impossible to get lost using it
77. astronot (Posts: 17; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
No way. Look at the camera quality of the 920. Look at the way the 920 is crafted and designed. Look at Nokia's super sensitive touchscreen. Look at its better turn by turn navi and map apps. How can you say the sgs3 is first?? Ah... the Android platform offers 12 kind of Tetris games, where the WP platform offers only three. Ok, well, I am happy for you ;)

Yeah i would buy a android powered nokia phone even if i have to give 1000$
53. ChiX017 (Posts: 308; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
hmmmm, better camera, yeah, better screen (even under sunlight), yeah, Battery life, yeah,.......what else do you need to top the SIII? WIRELESS CHARGING!
78. astronot (Posts: 17; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
Are you joking? Look on the internet for various comparisons between the Lumia 920 and the GS3. Lumia 920 camera clearly outperform the SG3 on every aspect. The same counts for Lumia's super sensitive screen, which even lets u use it with gloves.
83. ChiX017 (Posts: 308; Member since: 09 Nov 2011)
Yeah, the Lumia 920 tops the chart! or did you miss read my comment?
72. bengbeng (Posts: 4; Member since: 12 Aug 2012)
Lol. Im samsung s3 user. Would love to try lumia 920. Great os.fluid interface. Nokia wanted to have an o.s which almost all of us use. Nokia will definitely on its way to top. Nokias phone hip trendy and nice interface.S3 is smooth but laggy. Admit it. Ipad 3 user here also.
9. dsDoan (Posts: 220; Member since: 28 Dec 2011)
The Nokia rolled over the GS3? The Nokia and GS3 have the exact same CPU/GPU chipset, the GS3 has twice as much RAM, the Nokia is both heavier and thicker than the GS3, while having a smaller screen. In fact, the only 2 specs that the Nokia has better than the GS3 is better battery life and a higher PPI display.
A good device, sure, but do not be a blind fanboy.
17. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Don't mind him. Nokia fanboys always forget to put "IMHO" in their comments.
20. ogy_dogy (Posts: 453; Member since: 29 Jun 2012)
Wp does not need as much ram as android, thats a fact. Other than that, nokia has higher resolution, more ppi, far better battery life, wireless charging built in, far better camera and nokia drive which beats garmin, let alone google maps and lets not forget build quality. So i still say nokia ftw
24. dsDoan (Posts: 220; Member since: 28 Dec 2011)
768 x 1280 is a minuscule difference.. That is not a win vs 720 x 1280. You will not notice the difference. Galaxy S III also has wireless charging built in.
This article is regarding hardware, so your software argument should have been in your original post. To vaguely say the Lumia "rolled over the competition" in an article that displays hardware from competing devices that are better than the Lumia's is a losing argument.
The Lumia has a better camera? You mean that camera that Nokia had so much faith in that they ran television ads demonstrating the capabilities of the Lumia's camera, that they later admitted to falsifying the demo and showing footage that was taken with an actual digital camera instead of the Lumia's camera?
You have faith in the Lumia camera, that Nokia doesn't even have faith in?
28. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Not to mention that the human eyes can't notice pixels over 300ppi.
63. ogy_dogy (Posts: 453; Member since: 29 Jun 2012)
your argument for the display can be used on ram too, but i will not go there. as for the camera fiasco, it was not an ad, it was a single video shown to the press and blown out of proportion, i have seen live demos and the 920 made great photos in the dark where the gs3 and iphone made awesome black rectangles.... so i do, i have a lot of faith in nokia... since 1998 and the 5110 (which i still own and still runs)
21. Mobile-X-Pert (Posts: 565; Member since: 20 Dec 2010)
Sorry, but more Ram and less weight will not make an Android phone perform better than a Windows phone. I´ve seen the Galaxy s3 ( quad-core) compared to the Lumia 900 (single-core) and to tell you the truth, I didn´t see any difference in terms of performance, so imagine Windows phone 8 running on a Dual-core (S4).
On top of that, MS already said that windows phone runs much better on the windows NT kernel.
At the end of the day what speaks about your phone is real life performance.
25. SleepingOz (unregistered)
Windows sure needs less RAM as it's a lighter OS.
But more RAM allow more apps to run in the background! It's called multitasking with no "pseudo" in front.. =]
Also 1GB RAM is more than enough for ICS to run smooth, so does JB. 2GB is a plus!
29. Mobile-X-Pert (Posts: 565; Member since: 20 Dec 2010)
So now let me ask you, How many apps do you run or better yet, how many apps do you use at the same time?
We´re talking about real life performance and as far as I know we´re all humans.
31. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
yea true but sometimes you get to the point where you DOO wanna multitask and run multiple apps at once.......wich is one of the reasons why android is currently the "king" of operating systems and phones! There are OPTIONS! and as long as options are there and freedom of customization and choice....then it will indeed remain the king of smartphones........nokia is rising but dont act like it has thrown aside android it still has alot to do before that ever happens......and if you havent noticed then let me remind you that android is only gettin better! so i dont see how they will get over us jus yet......peace man
PS: they have to get over IOS first if they want to top android lol so let that be their focus before us :)
46. MaxJenius (Posts: 3; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
I usually have at least forty apps open all day on my Nokia N9. I range from 40-60 apps throughout the day. It's not uncommon for me to have 80+ apps open at once. My device never even slows down with GPS, emulators, music, and videos going.
I do own a android tablet and have nothing against it. I use it mostly as a gaming device and it serves its purpose well.
However the everyday usability of any andriod phone including the Galaxy S3 is still years away from the multitasking I need in my daily device.
I desperately want someone to make I device that has better multitasking than android, ios, or windows phone.
I will not buy a Nokia WP8 device. SO google needs to step their game up cause I want a new phone in 2013 and every OS I see is years away from my needs.
75. haseebzahid (Posts: 1836; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
huh like your the king of the world who can alter the thing according to ur likes wake up and live in the world not over it.
74. haseebzahid (Posts: 1836; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
you says android is king name other competetors before winphone8 IOS and ...... wp7 was not a competetor at all get some facts now about winphone8 it is next gen moblie OS. give me few examples of real life where u really need multitasking on android so badly that u cant live without it. i dont see any point of heavy multitasking on moblies only disavantage is it drains your battery like icecream shake. and customization you think aranging your icons on ur homescreen is customization i dont think everyone like to do it all the time its just what android makes the trend on openness its not that important not like we cant breath without it but if the phone gets stuck randomly and laggs(jellybeans is not out yet to be confirmed smooth) and some more stuff android is famous for i really get bad immage out of that so yeah Winphon7.5 showed the future on winphone8 is way better then android

I usually look for youtube videos(which are opened by my youtube app) of cheats and walkthroughs on google(via dolphin HD) when playing heavy games like(Shadowgun, Deadspace, Dead Trigger) while listening to music(Poweramp) over Bluetooth and sometimes replying to messages that pop up(GoSMS Pro) using Swiftkey 3.
Not to mention that my other 3rd party apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Flipboard, Pinterest, Skype, Avast, Viber, Whatsapp, Accuweather, Beautiful Widget, Elixir 2, Apex Launcher, Contacts Widget, DSP Manager, Hotmail, Gmail, Maps(offline), MusiXmatch are running in the background.
So the more, the better baby! =]
Stop being in denial of the advantage of bigger RAM.
76. haseebzahid (Posts: 1836; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
lol half of the things you mentions most of the social newtworks u minimize in android ..is win phone integrated stuff they get updated without you to refresh them at all and live tiles is where u can get the higligts and notification all without even running the apps and this also works with any apps that support this feature by developers i heard android customized icons GRIDs are static or very limited in telling that much details
64. ogy_dogy (Posts: 453; Member since: 29 Jun 2012)
all i know is i had a 512mb optimus 7 and a 512mb ics tablet, the lg runs perfectly while the tab crashes regularily. both have 1ghz procs. so thats my starting point and shows me a lot.
26. dsDoan (Posts: 220; Member since: 28 Dec 2011)
I never stated that the Android phone performed better.
57. haseebzahid (Posts: 1836; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
yes it is heavy but u dont think why so is that camera machanical image stabilizer weightless no it is gonna be heavy if the tech of this level is injected
79. astronot (Posts: 17; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
You are a bit wrong there. The SG3 is lighter and thinner, because it is made of fragile plastic instead of a solid polycarbonate unibody the Lumia 920 has. Furthermore the SG3 does not carry a wireless charging element and it does not have a high quality OIS camera module (which uses a bigger lens). These are the reasons why the Lumia is heavier and not as thin. The super sensitive touchscreen of the Lumia 920 can be used with even gloves on, something not possible with the GS3. And the lumia 920 use clearblack filters which results in better contrasts then the SG3.
81. dsDoan (Posts: 220; Member since: 28 Dec 2011)
You got me on the built-in wireless charging. The capable phone back must be purchased from Samsung in order to take advantage of the Galaxy S III's wireless charging.
But you're a bit confused yourself. You boast that the Lumia's polycarbonate body is superior to the Galaxy S III's "fragile plastic," when, in fact, the Galaxy S III body is polycarbonate. So by your statement, the Lumia also has a "fragile plastic" body, as well.
The Lumia can have as big of a lens as it wants, that doesn't mean it has a better camera. That's like saying an 8mp camera is better than a 5mp because 8 is bigger than 5. If Nokia had to take pictures with a real digital camera, and claim that they were taken by the Lumia, then it is probably not all they're talking it up to be.

Doesn't it feel like Deja Vu to you people??
Few days from now, PA will review the 'metal fruit' and make it a benchmark to compare every phones with. I have a feeling it's about to start soon, lol.

Lets look at the iCrap 5 release ... same old s**t - new box - ohh a lil longer! :P A6 processor *slated* to be faster than the i5 .. may i request for the FIPS and MIPS and quadrant scores on both please. Non standard 1136*640 resolution, Same pixel density as the earlier device, Same old camera, some improvement on the front cam shooting at 1.2 MP and 30fps - useful if you need to shoot yourself for a porn flick. different models for gsm/cdma (A1428/A1429) instead of a world phone like the 4S. Cut the SIM card even more - more headache for the operators and just in case you run out of juice ... hold the sim card and wonder wtf to do till u get an adapter - for an adaptor to fit a microSIM and then to a normal SIM which can fit all other phones.
Headphones ... BOSE its time you sue a lil bro apple for copying the QC in ear model .. where I pretty clearly recall the same images being used in the representation about the design....
People will still buy it because they want to prove how loyal they are to apple. Well, enjoy :)

Maybe people just want that OS? This is the same upgrade that the sgs3 had compared to sgs2 is it not? Except the iPhone isn't as ugly.
44. Palavius (Posts: 3; Member since: 24 Apr 2012)
What iOS?? 90% of iphone users jailbrake their phones in a 2 months time..

why does the gs3 lack the CDMA stuff? its out fo Verizon sprint and US cellular...
6. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
CDMA is for verizon and sprint thats why
5. jopancy (Posts: 63; Member since: 25 Apr 2012)
Didn't Sammy say it would sue Apple if Iphone 5 came out with LTE? ...
... ... ....
Sammy, this is you cue.

On the average the Lumia 920 beats the Iphone 5 by many points.
But I prophesy now that very soon you shall read posts by some people praising and saying the iphone is the best of all three.
12. satydesh (Posts: 71; Member since: 22 Nov 2011)
nokia lumia 920 is looking good after iphone5 release
14. d_striders (Posts: 7; Member since: 06 Aug 2012)
Nokia clearly is the winner when it comes to the hardware. Also the better battery life makes it more dependable. Windows might be a downfall, but i think they will get in the game soon enough.
16. doejon (Posts: 359; Member since: 31 Jul 2012)
the the international version of the s3 is way better and there will be a lte version of the the international version of the s3
but i will buy the note 2 damn iphone where u atttttttt?
18. Whateverman (Posts: 3231; Member since: 17 May 2009)
These all seem to be great phones and very evenly matched, but if I had to rate them I would have to call it:
2. iPhone 5
3. Lumia 920
The 920 might have the better according to the specs, but the recent picture faking scandal brings some doubt.
The iPhones "new" design looks the same but a little better and iMaps or whatever looks great. The 4 inch screen is a good move, but 4.3 to 4.7 would have been even better. iOS is looking older and older with every year it goes un-refreshed.
GS3 is king right now! The One X is close, but the GS3 is a d*mn good looking phone inside and out. Sure, the could have pushed the envolpe on the outer design a lot more and used more premium materials. But until we get S4 Pro or quad core/LTE Exynos chips... The GS3 is the must have phone.
58. haseebzahid (Posts: 1836; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
yes defenalty PA articles shows the fake photos but doesnot show the reall photos of lumia920 that later on. Verge went to verfiy at same location with nokia team and it turned out lumia 920 is still far better they had it on there web with multiple test picts their last comment was "nokia harware deserved a better marketting because it is better "
80. astronot (Posts: 17; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
Whining about Nokia's commercial which apparently in some way was giving wrong impressions to some people (mostly Wallstreet press), is plain hypocrit. Did you also expect Redbull was really giving you wings? Are you also complaining at McDonalds when their burgers look much better in adverbs then the ones you actually get. This being said. Nokia's commercial was not fake. It was made most probably long before the Lumia 920 was even ready. It was just stating the differnce between OIS and normal camara technology.
82. Whateverman (Posts: 3231; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Stating that it brings doubt somehow makes makes me a hypocrite? Explain how. Industry experts are even questioning Nokia's actions, so sounds like you are the only one whining here.
Why so sensitive about a fact? The fact is there is a scandal no matter what your little fanboy heart wants to believe. Some people have doubts and until the phone is in hand or confirm by trusted third party, many will still have doubts.
19. AndroidShiz (Posts: 145; Member since: 08 Nov 2011)
Sure these are all nice phones, but I can't wait for the Galaxy Sexus 4. I just hope that the next Nexus is made by more than one manufacturer as rumored. I wouldn't mind having the beauty of HTC's hardware look and hand feel with complete pure Android on board, but whatever the case, Nexus4Life.

Bronze = iCrap
Silver = SGS III

Did Nokia really just win a specs shootout? Against Apple and Samsung no less??? Welcome back, Nokia. We missed you
