We wanted to see how the newly announced iPhone 5 measures up to the Samsung Galaxy S III, which will be its main competition for a good while, and against the upcoming LG Optimus G monstrosity, the likes of which will be the new iPhone's competition for at least the first half of next year...

haha! in someways, i agree with you! LG was the one who made the screens of the iPhone5 and of course, they used it too in the OptimusG so the screen quality of both the phones will be at par. i think OptimusG and iPhone5 have better screens than the amoled on Sammy but i still like the OptimusG and S3 than the iPhone5! Galaxy series though still look like an iPhone because they have physical home buttons unlike the Optimus series. Xperias of Sony and Razrs from Moto have unique designs. better than LG's and Sammy's! ^^

I really don't think there is a comparison here. The iPhone is Good but spec wise it is in noway able to compete with the SG3 ( it will probably barely keep up with it) But to place the LG ( monster device ) is ridiculous. Again this is all spec wise Apple does not compete spec wise they admit it themselves. Now if you throw in the Razor Maxx HD and the Sony Xperia line the iPhone looks like a mid range phone and not a premium range device at best. it's respectable but in no way cutting edge and revolutionary. I believe that Motorola if they deiliver on their promise of no boundaries and release an edge to edge display ( or even come close to it < the Razor M is a good starting point> phone then you have revolutionary. All in all the iPhone is not a bad device just now to me a normal mid range device.

Iphone 5 whatever........my GNex still trumps this and Ive had it almost a year. Apple is just catching up to Android on the technology front. Go Android!!!

Apple is no longer in the Flagship market.... they only offer Mid-range phones now. If the iPhone 5 can barely keep up with the Galaxy S3, what the hell is Apple gonna do when the Galaxy S4 (or whatever it will be called) is released ???

for me, i have to admit that the iPhone5's design is darn sexy in a way but i still like the bigger screens for S3 and OptimusG. when it comes to power, i would still have to give credit to OptimusG coz this phone will not have different versions for different countries except for Japan. Japan's version in DOCOMO i think is a plastic one that's sealed perfectly coz Japanese would like to have a water proof phone but the Korean version which i think is gonna be the same as the international version will be made out of a glass back cover which i think will look classier and better than the S3. do not be too doubtful about OG's battery coz as explained, the quad s4pro chipset and its in-cell touch technology screen will help save the battery unlike the one in Optimus4x's features where it had the older technology TRU IPS technology that failed to go hand-in-hand with the outdated chipset of Nvidia's Tegra3. OG also has the best GPU out Adreno 320 and a 2GB RAM. a friend of mine who owns an OptimusL7 already had an update on her phone's OS so i think LG may have learned their lesson in having a sucking update of support on the 2X. i just doubt the camera if the OG will outperform the camreas of the Xperia lineup. if only the new Xperias have quadcores, they will be the best among the rest for the 2012 manufacturers as they were able to outshine some of the new line ups of smartphones like the S3 and Note 2. i will wait for the LG's monstrous badboy and from there i will get to think if OG will be a worth buying device than Note 2, iPhone5 and Xperias T, TX or V. cheers! ^^

The Galaxy S III has a Quad Core processor.
Please fix that.

I've been saying it all along. Apple has been resting on it's laurels because they know all their legions of fans will keep buying their stuff no matter what. I haven't seen them come out with anything lately that made me say "wow." Most of the stuff being put in the iPhone 5 is already in other phones. I have the Galaxy S3 and while it may be no better than some of these other phones, one thing it is - is BIG. Sorry, but the iPhone is just to small for my needs and even this half hearted attempt at "size" by making it taller doesn't do it for me. I also discovered that I am not at all a fan of the iCloud. It works fine but I just do not care for its look and feel. It just seems so dumb looking to me. It's just my opinion though, you know. Both Google AND Microsoft's cloud services seem way better to me and getting better I might add.

Let's not forget customization! The droid has it. Iphone will be playing catch-up for some time...or not. That's what makes iPhone appealing to simple folk. Droid does notifications like a champ too....iPhone? Just now catching up (and still needs to be set up) NO biggie tho...
That just leaves the LG an SIII. Personally, the SIII has it won. Number one reason? 2 words: battery life. Sure we all want power but those quads are battery vamps. And in real life, the dual core snappy D runs just fine...gaming...music, etc...NO problemo.
There's a reason manufactures aren't throwing quads in every phone...like Apple. And there's a reason the battery life is blank for the LG in this comparison.

for those who are wondering why on this article, the S3 is only a dual core, its because the quad core exynos of Samsung's A9 chipset is not LTE compatible that is why it is posted here that it is only running dual core but with the Snapdragon's S4 Krait processor which can somehow perform as good as the exynos quad CPU but, S4 dual core will eat dust compared to a quad core S4 PRO and the GPU of the OptimusG is an Adreno320 which is gonna be the best when it comes to giving the best graphics that you will observe gaming and may somehow help in giving a little punch in watching videos. LG should be able to provide the best support with the OptimusG! i hope when they release the OG globally, there will be a JellyBean out of the box already! LG, please release this phone internationally especially in the US, Europe and in the Philippines where i live and where people really love smartphones! i doubt if i will get the iPhone5 coz i was not happy with my 4S before and sold it to buy an S3 and, though S3 is a powerful device to own, i became unattracted with the design coz i got the white version and for me, it looked like a soap especially if the phone's back faces me. haha! i still think that iPhone5's design is way sexier and more beautiful than the S3 and its at par with the OptimusG coz both used premium things to provide a better quality design for their supporters. best of luck LG! ^^

@Daniel P. - Please varify you data before post it , here you have posted standy by time for SGS3 as 8.3 days (199 hrs) and in the specs it is 32.1 days (770 hrs) 3G mode (2G is 34.6 days or 830 hrs).

No wonder iphone 5 has such funny display pixels, they are still keeping to 326 ppi just like the iphone 4 or 4S. This is just a method to cheat the users they are getting a bigger screen but the screen resolutions stay the same as the iphone 4 or 4S. My Xperia S has bigger screen of 4.3" and resolution is better in 1280 x 720 (342 ppi).

the siii is a quad core not a dual core krait, how many other of these specs are wrong??
77. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5427; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
the US version has a dual-core Krait.
78. KRONeage (Posts: 27; Member since: 17 Apr 2011)
Quadcore beats Dual Core Krait on Graphics. Overall performance and Multi-tasking the more cores the better and we're not talking huge difference on any of these phones. It's not like the old days with ATI vs Nvidia wars with extreme scoring differences. Besides the users will not see the differences anyway!
Xiaomi MI 2 beats all these iPhones on GLBenchmarks. Who cares? It's a phone selling for half the price and it's actually a decent quality phone too. That's why all these comparisons are so ridiculous. For years ATI had been killing Nvidia on benchmarking, but they still produced a better gaming experience until recently. That was horse power brawn over finesse and finer points of graphics performance on benchmarks only, in game and a gamer would pick the Nvidia GPU.
Now ATI seems to have gotten their driver issues fixed and they're doing better while scoring less. So what's the point in even looking at benchmarks? Especially these new Offscreen fill rates and other ridiculous scoring only manufacturers like Apple cared about. Now it's the first thing that comes up with a bunch of KNOW NOTHING Apple fans.... who don't even realize what Offscreen means! ......but Yeah that Xiaomi MI 2 BEATS them all with it's Dual Core Krait S4! ;-P
