Apple iPhone 5 vs LG Optimus G vs Samsung Galaxy S III specs comparison
0. phoneArena 18 Sep 2012, 02:10 posted on
We wanted to see how the newly announced iPhone 5 measures up to the Samsung Galaxy S III, which will be its main competition for a good while, and against the upcoming LG Optimus G monstrosity, the likes of which will be the new iPhone's competition for at least the first half of next year...

Please don't kill me slenderman :o... haha ;) and yeah, I don't know why they chose the LG Optimus G instead of the beasty Razr HD
34. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
*whispers from behind* maybe you should..figure out why they did HTCFreak. ;]
44. theBankRobber (Posts: 649; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
Probably because none of Motos phones have 2gb of ram. If you look at LG and SGS, they both have very similar specs.
45. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
the Razr HD has trade offs such as the bigger batteries and the better build quality which would've been worth a mention here.
49. theBankRobber (Posts: 649; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
Battery, yes, quality, hell yes as my Photon 4G has been dropped 20 times and it hasn't broke. But everything else, I don't think so. I will buy a Moto as my next phone IF a new one comes to Sprint. But Motorola hasn't really shown anything worth wild thats better then whats out now.
50. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
then apparently wireless reception, build quality, battery life and a near stock experience don't matter to you.
52. theBankRobber (Posts: 649; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
You are a complete DUMB ASS, can you NOT read? I said Moto has great battery life and build quality but everything else is not impressive to what's out now. Also do you not realise that the Maxx phones are Not on other brands besides Verizon, so battery life doesn't apply to me as im on Sprint. When a Maxx moto phones comes to Sprint then you might have something to talk about.
53. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
it doesn't have to be, the Razr HD excels in it's own ways but you act like it's below the SIII because of what the SIII 1-Ups the Razr HD with.
so? i don't care what applies to you. i was just talking about their exclusion from the article which i was hardly even serious about. if you'll notice T-Mobile customers have no reason to even look at this article but i'm sure a few would wonder why the Razr HD wasn't included because even though it's on Verizon it's every bit as high-end as the SIII and the iPhone 5 in it's own important respects. none of them even properly compare to the LG.
don't call me a dumb ass for saying something that's very apparently true.
54. theBankRobber (Posts: 649; Member since: 22 Sep 2011)
When the hell did I say Motorola Razor HD was a bad phone, again you fail to see what im talking about. I SAID it was probably (PROBABLY) is because the specs between the LG and SGS 3phone are more similar in specs and it could be the reason why the RHD wasn't included. They both have the same amount t of ram (2gb), the RHD DOESNT. I was just saying maybe these were a few reasons why it wasn't included and start a stupid ass argument. Please get off of Motorola's d:ck already.
55. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
all you had to do was leave it alone after i said there were trade offs for the Razr which i just said to back up why i think the Razr HD does deserve to be here, that didn't really call for a come back but you did make a come back saying "But Motorola hasn't really shown anything worth wild thats better then whats out now" and my response to that of course being "then apparently wireless reception, build quality, battery life and a near stock experience don't matter to you." was appropriate. was it not true? was it not true? if you're going to say oh but Motorola hasn't really come out with anything worth while or better than anything else that's out then wouldn't that suggest that the things that set these Motorola devices apart from the competition in fact do not matter to you? so i imply that and then you come back and call me a dumb ass. what's your deal man? i think that was uncalled for and from where i stand you're the one that made this into an argument.

talk to him. he called me a dumb ass for no good reason.
74. Pyoung0560 (Posts: 26; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
ThebankRobber, Iphone5 dont have 2g ram only 1g. so no excuse so to leave it out
17. Commentator (Posts: 2725; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
It could compare just as easily as the Galaxy S III.
21. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Still better than the iPhone 5... God, I was really looking forward to the iPhone 5 too. Disappointed.
83. Hemlocke (unregistered)
The iPhone 5 dusts both of those Android devices, so what makes you think a Moto device would fare any better?
84. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Because the iPhone 5 doesn't "dust" both of the Android devices pictured in the article above. What makes you think that? The only thing I can think of that the iPhone 5 has over the S4 in the GS3 is graphics, but the Adreno 320 in the Optimus G makes up for that.
Other than that, the Androids win in every aspect. Bigger and better displays, better OS (arguable), cameras should be about equal, and the LG has better build quality than the iPhone or the GS3.
85. Hemlocke (unregistered)
The Adreno 320 is not as good as the SGX543MP3. Check your benchmarks. The only thing the SGS3 beats the iPhone in is Geekbench, and it gets beaten in every other bench, and soundly in GPU-intensive benches.
As for better build quality on the LG, isn't that glass like the iPhone 4/4s that everyone always complained about being too fragile? The 5 is a more premium build and sturdy.
No mobile screen has bested the iPhone's screen, yet, so I don't even know where that comes from.
88. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
The Adreno 320 beats the SGX543MP4 in the new iPad, so yes it does beat the MP3 in the iPhone.
And yes the Optimus G does use glass, but it isn't all glass like the iPhone. And I would imagine LG would've been smart enough to use stronger glass with all the broken iPhones in the world.
I believe the S-LCD2 display is better than the plain LCD IPS display in the iPhone. All Apple did was turn up the brightness a bit and increase the saturation. Even the S-Amoled HD display is better in my opinion because of the contrast.
90. Hemlocke (unregistered)
You better go buy the Qualcomm development board that managed the benchmarks you referenced, because the Optimus G doesn't ship over clocked like that.
Better than Gorilla Glass? Good luck with that.
Sorry, I posted actual tests, not opinion. DisplayMate, PCMag, Anandtech, and others disagree with you, as do I, having owned the One X.
91. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Overclocked? What reasoning do you have for that?
I've never seen anything official about the iPhone 4 and 4S having Gorilla Glass. It's always; yes, no, kind of, maybe. Some say it is manufactured by Corning but it isn't exactly Gorilla Glass, some say it is Gorilla Glass but they never officially said so. Some people say there are official documents by Apple saying it is Gorilla Glass, but I've never seen any. What I did see is a list of devices with Gorilla Glass, and only the 5 is on there.
Displays are completely subjective (aside from resolution to an extent), and for those sites to make such bold statements in a field that is purely based on opinion is highly unprofessional. Some people like LCD, some people like Amoled. I prefer LCD personally, and I enjoy the S-LCD 2 display on the One X more than I do the display on the iPhone 5. There are some things tests cannot interpret and depend on the personal user, and displays is one of them.

dude i guess you're like me...........the xperia line up and Motos Razr line up is the only thing im seein right now!
Razr M FTW
37. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i am quite curious to see what this LG will bring to the states though. LG may surprisingly leap frog over the big dogs this holiday season with something that is as supposedly beastly as the Optimus G. o:
46. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
yea it definitely is something to look forward too.....so far the only questions i have about it is....is that 2100 mAh battery good enough for the S4 quadcore? and also will LG be on top of their game as for updates and jus customer service i guess?
51. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
if this sells then LG may be motivated to step up on the updating front and as for power usage it should be around the same since multi-core efficiency and GPU power cancel each other out pretty much.
2. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
The new Android phones are going to run away and hide from the iP5.
8. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
The LG appears to be the first out of the gate with the S4 Pro. I suspect the S4 Pro + JB will be in all of the flagship Android handsets in 2013.

Just because you have one doesn't mean you have to act like one...
61. levvy (Posts: 33; Member since: 01 Aug 2012)
Since when ? Surely in your horrible dream of the invasion of Android
3. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
The A6 isn't quad-core, is it? And, I would take the LG over both of those. As long as I have the option to root it, and get stock jelly Bean instead of Optimus UI...
39. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5670; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i would think it's a Quad-Core but i think Apple would've touted that if it were because that would make the iPhone 5 the first phone in the states with a Quad-Core. Apple sure does like to tease the hardware junkies. xD
43. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
That was what I thought, they would have bragged that they had quad-core, like how they bragged with the quad core graphics in the new iPad.
86. Hemlocke (unregistered)
It doesn't need to be.
Quad-core last-gen isn't in the same game, and the S4 Pro has a comparable CPU, but the GPU is not equal to the performance of the 543MP3.
89. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
The Adreno 320 beats the 543MP4, so I think it can stack up quite nicely against the 543MP3.
Kind of a given, if one GPU (Adreno 320) beats out another GPU (SGX543MP4); then you take the losing GPU, take away about 25% of its potential performance (543MP3), it's still going to lose. I fail to understand your logic of thinking otherwise.
4. nitinrana (Posts: 27; Member since: 02 Apr 2012)
How can you guys even think of comparing it to SGS3???
Show some respect!!!
iPhone 5 is an epic fail... iFans should be trolled... :D
5. avasponge (Posts: 41; Member since: 03 May 2012)
GALAXY S3 and LG OPTIMUS G are better than iPhone 5
6. imkyle (Posts: 1039; Member since: 18 Nov 2010)
Specs wise the phone is good, but design wise and iOS ... well its getting dated.
7. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4556; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Is the phone quad-core or dual-core? PhoneArena.com you guys are posting different stuff!
Here from your site:
14. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5993; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
The consensus from the chipset folks is dual core cpu with quad-core gpu.
20. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
thats confusing??? dual core and quad core? please explain
32. SuperAndroidEvo (Posts: 4556; Member since: 15 Apr 2011)
Yes they fixed it. FINALLY!!!! lol
11. The_Innovation (Posts: 585; Member since: 18 Jul 2012)
If you don't give much attention to the 1GB ram, the iPhone takes it. I'm positive the camera on it will beat the 13mp one LG has.
29. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
In terms of processor, RAM, and display (size and type), the iPhone loses. PhoneArena is contradicting themselves, one article they say the iPhone 5 has a dual-core, another one they say it's quad, another they say the don't know. I'm about 90% it's a 1.2 GHz 32nm dual-core, basically an Exynos 4212, which is beaten by the S4 dual and S4 Pro quad.
Not sure on the GPU though, it might be the same found in the new iPad, which is still beaten by the Adreno 320. Though the camera probably is better than the rest of the competition, except for maybe the latest Xperia phones, and the Lumia 920 of course.
36. The_Innovation (Posts: 585; Member since: 18 Jul 2012)
Well if it's dual core, that changes everything. In that case I would definitely agree with you.
I think just like the iPad 3, it's Dual Core with Quad Core graphics.
41. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
xperia line up........moto line up...........and i even like the new lumia 920 over the iphone 5! ........why would i get the iphone 5 again??
59. The_Innovation (Posts: 585; Member since: 18 Jul 2012)
It's not about you only. I want Droids to reach more fame. Right now, weather we like it or not, there's no stopping the iPhone. They filled in all the gaps that the average consumer wanted. Gave the bigger screen, gave the GPS, gave 4G LTE, has a decent battery, great camera.
The Xperia line up, the Moto Line up, really doesn't have much to offer to MOST consumers.
58. The_Innovation (Posts: 585; Member since: 18 Jul 2012)
They changed it to dual core lol. WTH PHONEARENA!
87. Hemlocke (unregistered)
Are you daft? It's not an A9 Exynos. It is completely custom A15 based, like the Krait. The 4212 and 4412 are just straight, unmodified, reference ARM A9 chips. No magic, no fairy dust, just straight last-gen tech.
The Adreno 320 doesn't beat the new iPad, either. I can show benchmarks to prove my point, but I would be interested to see your sources.
92. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4166; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Are you? This was almost a month ago, when next to nothing was known about the chip. I was just speculating of what it might be, considering the fact that the previous generations of Apple's Ax chips were basically re-branded Exynos. Now we know that it is in fact a custom made chip, just manufactured by Samsung.
Are you sure Exynos aren't modified in some way? I thought Samsung did something special, and that's why they always have best in class CPUs, but they were still primarily ARM based.
Also, the A6 isn't A-15 based. It is A-15 class, kind of like how the Krait in the S4 is an A-15 equivalent, but not A-15 based. All of these tech sites that are calling it A-15 have nothing backing that up.
I already went over the Adreno 320 vs. 543MP4 deal with you.
13. Djillest (Posts: 5; Member since: 29 Aug 2012)
S3 is still best for many reasons... Anything the iPhone 5 well do s3 already did and did better...
42. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
yes i agree with you but where the S3 fails is design......apples design is still better than Samsungs......BUT! everything else is much better with the exception of the camera.......which is why i believe the xperia phones (V and TX) has every phone beat as of now........Design wise and Power wise!

I hate to bring this up, but in reality this LG phone looks a whole lot more like the iPhone than Samsung S line :/
