A good design must take in to account all fairly possible situations.

But frankly I think scratching is much bigger flaw of iPhone 5.

Wait a min....what was wrong with that? I have a orig Droid RAZR...and many times I forgot which pocket it was in and sat on it a few times. It never bent or cracked...but there were reports of RAZRs cracking from the same thing.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the screen? It didnt crack? I can see the spin for this tho.....try that with other phones and if they crack or break....iPhone 5 would be more seen as durable...

aluminum is used because it is light yet strong. I didn't see my n8 bend like that eversince i had it.

n8 has pretty thick aluminum, that's why they feel sturdier and heavier. apple uses very thin aluminum for the iPhone 5. aluminum might be strong but in metal category it's pretty malleable

Yup, malleable but its malleability only applies when a great force was used. That's why it's commonly used on aircrafts. Maybe you're right, iPhone 5's aluminum is so thin that with a slight force, it bends. ORRRRRR the guy who owns the device is a jedi :))

Yeah, aluminium is malleable, but I have not had any bending whatsoever with my one-and-a-half-year-old Desire S, not even a dent..

Am I defying the rules of material science here?
Or is there something magical about this iPhone?

The first one sounds better to me, although any person who has common sense and doesn't sit with phone in the back pocket would agree that the latter makes more sense..

A good designer should be able to know a material's properties when designing a product.. Explain to me why my phone, which is quite abused by me has not bent yet, while this phone, barely few months old, can bend like nobody's business..

There's no excuse for a badly designed product..
