Will the iPhone5 use Qualcomm chips?

Apple is designing architecture for their SoCs by itself. And answer will be no, iPhone 5 will not use Qualcomm's SoCs.

by themselves? ooooh.. you mean with samsung. Apple uses samsung chips.. generally a slightly downgraded version of their flagship chip. Their agreement doesnt end until 2012 or 13. So the iphone 6 probably wont be samsung.

@remixfa "Apple uses samsung chips.. generally a slightly downgraded version of their flagship chip."

You are totally wrong!
Apple's A4 and A5 SoCs are designed by Apple and Samsung is only manufacturer.

Apple's A5 and Samsung's Exynos 4210 (a.k.a. Orion) are two different SoCs.

Go and get some knowledge before starting arguing!

Apple's A4 chip was a samsung humminbird with a smaller GPU core. the A5 chip is the same thing but with the exynos. Apple rebrands them... but when you get down to core chip architecture they are 98% identical.

No, Samsung was only manufacturer of A5 SoC, but not a designer!

There is a rumor that Apple will cancel contract with Samsung and will buy TSMC manufacturing services. And as we can see TSMC is only manufacturer, but not a SoC designer for any smatphones.

Talking about Apples A5 SoC:

1) Apple design A5 SoC architecture.
2) Apple buys CPU from ARM.
3) Apple buys GPU from PowerVR (Imagination Technologies).
4) Apple buys Samsung's manufacturing services to manufacture SoC and collect all components in to it.

Its not biased, they are just reporting the news... There are many articles with android phones and stuff. If you dont want to read about iPhones then don't open it up !

Probably once again reflecting (if you can believe the data) that there are a lot of people out there who confuse iPhone and smarthphone, or know of know other smartphone by name. And I'm not sure how they came up with these numbers - they don't seem consistent either.

And there is no indication of how the population was sampled. Dewey wins!

These surveys are vastly skewed, those who take it must opt-in/volunteer. Hardly accurate figures.

Not surprised by the results in the last paragraph. Who, outside of us techies, would even know what a Droid Bionic, or a Galaxy S 2 really is? Not making any excuses, but everyone knows what an iPhone is. So it's not surprising that they would want what they already know about. The difference maker will be getting these two devices side by side in front of customers. That is were they should start these surveys, because as I said before, customers change their minds all the time. Who knows, there could be a dark horse in the form of a WP7 or WebOS device that could change these numbers drastically.

Exactly, those 35% are people who think their iPhone 4S or 5 will be 4G. Most Apple fans are not too bright, but if you put a Samsung Galaxy S II or a Droid Bionic next to the new iPhone & show them what each phone can & can't do 9 out of 10 will take the Android over the iPhone. It's day & night which phone is just plain better. Apple has the cute & catchy commercials, Android doesn't. Android is #1 in the world without the cute Apple like commercials. Imagine if Android just used half of Apple’s marketing budget & actually started advertising Android. Now that is a scary thought! lol

Spoken like a true moron. It is actually closed minded people like you who like to sterotype that are not too bright. When will you get it through your head that people are allowed to make their own choices. Just because someone does not like Android or they don't like Iphones should not mean anything to you unless you are 12 or your are 40 and living in your mom's basement. You SAE need to wise up/grow up. You are a true D-bag.

Bro you just did everything that you were complaining about. The facts are true. There was an article just released recently here on this website that said that a lot of Apple customers think they have a 4G phone. Now that is stupid. You are probably one of those iPhone 4 customers who swears their phone is 4G! It's like thinking your Toyota has a Ferrari engine. How is it closed minded when I am only speaking facts? There are people out there who think their iPhone's are 4G. That is true, I am not making this up. How is that stereotypical? You are calling me a moron, a D-bag & you say I need to grow up? lol Hallucinator you need to take a close look at your mother's basement mirror buddy! Your comment is completely convoluted. lol Also Hallucinator its stereotype not sterotype! lol If you got out of your mothers basement you would probably know that!

The difference is that I have no worries what phone someone else uses. So no, calling you a moron has nothing to do with what phone you have. It is simply because you come across as a jerk. I did spell stereotype wrong so yeah. You seem to base WAY too much of your life worrying about people who have iphones. Might wanna have that looked into friend.

Guy you have a right to post whatever you want. So do I. I never reduce myself to call anyone a moron or a D-bag like you do. Name calling is a sign of weakness. Hallucinator you come across as weak. You would never call me a name like that face to face. You are a tough man behind the computer, & in real life you are just a weak little man. How about making a point without calling people names & not bringing this to an elementary school level?. Last time I called someone a moron & a D-bag I was in the sixth grade. lol Also if you have no worries then why even post a comment? If you have no worries then what is your point? I love how people can criticize someone with name calling. Your argument has no merit because you soiled it with name calling. How can anyone take you seriously when you act like you are in the 5th grade? lol Hallucinator you seem to base WAY too much of your life worrying about what I say! That is how silly you sound. Again it’s weak! My opinion is mine, your opinion is yours the difference is I don’t call people names like you do. “Might wanna have that looked into friend.” lol

How do you know exactly that the next iPhone won't be 4G when it hasn't even been announced? Is your dad in charge of product development at Apple?

It's clearly not going to be 4G. You and I know that. Everyone & their mothers knows that taco50. Hey I could be wrong though. lol They say "maybe" the iPhone 6 will have 4G. Again that is a huge "maybe". I can tell you this, the reason why Apple has been delayed is because their dual-core chips have a nasty habit of melting the iPhone. lol Hey you didn't hear that from me though! lol

And this melting thing is from your daddy also? Funny the dual core doesn't seem to melt the iPad 2. Chances are iPhone will have hspa + which is what both t mo and Att use for 4G.

taco50 if you haven't noticed I have been messing with you. You & I don't know what the next iPhone will or will not have. The only thing I am 100% serious about is that Steve Jobs' phone that he conducts business with IS a Black Berry, NOT an iPhone. I am willing to bet my years salary to your McDonald's salary any day! lol That is how sure I am. My Father has been flown to Apple HQ by Steve Jobs' private jet! I told you there were more details, & that is how far I will go with it. You don't have to believe me that is fine. I promise you I am telling the truth.

because apple already said it wasnt going to be 4g... well at least LTE 4g. The chips that qualcomm uses are too big and didnt fit into apple's phone design.. so instead of compromising design even 10%, they are going to wait until the chips become smaller and can into the design without compromise.

cuz ya know.. that extra half millimeter would have just been too much!! lol.

No one does surveys comparing two products side by side. Plus the sales numbers show that when customers have a choice most pick an iPhone.

iPhone is now the top selling phone on VZW and AT&t even though it's over 1 year old.

Youre right. No tech surveys are done with two products side by side, because these surveys are typically done before the products has been released. I'm not disputing that the iPhone 5 won't be the best selling phone, but I don't know that for sure it will either. All I know is that the SGS2 is looking extremely good, and if the numbers around the world are correct, it COULD knock the iPhone out of the top spot. My thinking here is that there are surveys every few days about the next iPhone. How about we wait to see what's available and what people actually buy before declaring a king?

Whateverman, you make sense! Do you really expect taco50 to comprehend what you just said? This is the same guy who thinks that Steve Jobs uses an iPhone as his work phone because he puts sent from my iPhone in his signature! lol

Lol! I'm hoping taco will see I'm not trying to antagonize him. We've all been at it for a few months now, and there just isn't any debating here anymore, just a lot of senseless bickering between Android fans and iOS fans. And lately, it's been getting really nasty. I don't think any of us are the jerks we sound like on our post, encluding myself. So I'm hoping by being civil to each other, PA can become a little more enjoyable.
