Apple iPhone 4S without a camera being offered in Singapore

0. phoneArena posted on 15 Jan 2012, 13:47

What do you call an Apple iPhone 4S without the 8MP camera? No, not the iPhone 4, you call it suitable for the Singapore military as carriers in the country are stripping out the camera in order to be able to sell the device to them...

wow that's dumb, i'd rather not have one if I'm going to have a gaping hole in the back where my camera should be

3. belovedson posted on 15 Jan 2012, 15:27 4 9

your pretty insensitive dude. have some respect for the soldiers

7. quakan posted on 15 Jan 2012, 18:01 9

@Belovedson You're an idiot, there was not any disrespect stated towards soldiers. I'm saying that it would be smarter to get a phone that comes without a camera than getting an iPhone and getting the camera taken out then be left with an opening for the camera that is no longer there.

it is disrespectful.. again you calling me an idiot is disrespectful.

if that's what you were trying to say why not say just that you ass.

if someone wants an iphone and is willing to pay a premium let them.

if you think for a second you would realize there aren't many premium phones that come without a camera. but then again the way you respond im sure you never thought about it

I wasn't being an ass, I was explaining my reasoning to you. Imagine you're a soldier, which would you rather have: A Blackberry without camera or an iPhone with a hole for a non-existent camera.

P.S. I didn't call you an idiot to be disrespectful, I called you one because it was very fitting.

While I agree with you otherwise, it is very possible that a person in the Singapore military would rather use an iPhone rather than a Blackberry.

I'm sure there would still be a clear cover over said hole. Also because of particular policies that bar cameras, I would believe the idea of not wanting to own a specific smartphone designed with having a camera in mind, fairly mute.

belovedson probably gave a thumb up on his own comment just like people on Facebook liking their own status.

And is it wrong to like your own status on facebook?

It's actually very brilliant. Governing bodies require that cell phones have no camera to protect sensitive information. RIM has gotten a very large chunk of business/money by following that model and making models with NO CAMERA. Put yourself in their shoes. Think it was dumb for them to take the camera out? Before you answer, think about the sums of money they have made.

9. quakan posted on 15 Jan 2012, 18:05 2

@LoneShaolin I am completely aware that it's only for the military. The point I was making was why go through the hassle of removing the camera and being left with a gaping hole when you could buy a phone that was manufactured without a camera.

12. LoneShaolin posted on 15 Jan 2012, 18:16 2 1

-_- Because Apple is retarded and won't do it.

13. quakan posted on 15 Jan 2012, 18:19

If it does happen, it won't be until the next iPhone is announced when they can release all versions of it at the same time.

18. spencerlewis8 posted on 15 Jan 2012, 19:54

Who says apple can't just make a different back glass back piece with out the camera hole...

2. tacohunter posted on 15 Jan 2012, 14:31 2 1

for their military it's not allowed to have a camera.

AFor those who think that this is dumb, plz think again. At the moment, the best non camera phone is most prob the 9900 or 9790 whcih does nt have much apps or games on it. Military service is a whole 2 years. I just did my national services 2 years back and the only phone available to me was a symbian e51 and g700 biz edition and walkmanphone w900. It was after a while then there is a htc snap and touch 2 which runs on windows 6.5. At the moment, excluding the iPhone, this is a rather lousy a lousy catalog of phones. Plus, not all place allowed the use of itouch and you cant bring devices with screen larger than 4.3 inch.(PSP's screen)

so if anyone wld be legally mod their iPhone, then I am sure that this would be a lucrative biz. Wld u rather a bb or a iPhone?( excluding those outdated symbian and windows phone)
