Apple iPad replaces iPod as "the gateway device" that leads to an addiction to Apple products

The Apple iPod is no longer "the gateway device" that Apple users first try and which gets them hooked into the Apple eco-system and headed toward the purchase of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad; its actually the latter that is now the first Apple device usually purchased that leads to a lifelong devotion to Apple products...

It is true. I bought an ipad a year ago ... won't go into the reasons and then later was sucked into buying a mba 11 and iphone this past year. Ipad has gone and so has the iphone but the mba 11 is a great laptop and one to keep.

these raw raw apple iHerd fanboy articles are mind blowing. Apple simply offers the highest prices for last years technology, requires yearly upgrades for yearly restricted new hardware only software features that in general is closed, restrictive and completely non customizable..

You go iHerd, you go! no really, GO to the new MacCafe and find out what features of last years Android Apple plans to finally offer... oh and don't forget to go to the bank, get out another $600 for iPad 4. you already bought the other 3 and you know you will buy the 4th.., making it $2400 in just 3 years iN tablets :(

oh, btw, my laptop is 4 years old, cost me $400. My xbox 360 is 7 years old cost me $300. Apple's profits are at your yearly expense, remember that iHerd

I have a 80gb classic iPod and it never made me feel like I wanted to own another apple product. Apple products are good but not my style so while I load up on my iPod , I don't see myself owning another apple product instead of a high Gigabit music device such as the iPod. A Ipad is just a over sized iPod touch the same way as a android tablet is a over sized android device.

It seems the transition from the iPod to the iPad has come at the right time since iPod sales have been falling for years now. Apple have a new "halo" device with which it can show it's strengths. This definitely means there'll be a serious amount of energy focussed on the iPad.

When it comes to the "portable" lineup of Apple's devices you'll notice that they put more attention (and technology) towards the iPad. For example, the disappointing 6th generation iPod Nano hasn't been changed since it's launch almost 2 years ago. Even when previous Nano enthusiasts and tech bloggers had several complaints about the lack of features Apple has done nothing but about it except lowering the retail price.

it's my prediction that Apple will eventually discontinue the iPod Touch and/or Nano and offer a lower priced and smaller version of the iPad. It could probably save them an incredible amount of production expenses being the smaller scale iPad could be built in the same assembly line.

I hope they don't get rid of the iTouch, just make it the size of a Galaxy note and call it the iPad mini, there are more apps for the Iphone/iTouch anyway...

If anything it'll be the iPod shuffle, nano and classic that get the heave ho as the Touch drives the vast majority of iPod sales. If Apple could find a way to make the Touch more affordable to replace the cheaper iPods and the capacity of the classic, they could sweep away all of the other models and streamline the whole lineup.
