Apple iPad launch not your usual sell-out; real time chart shows breakdown of Apple iPad use
0. phoneArena 16 Mar 2012, 22:18 posted on
Checks of a dozen New York Apple Stores by BGR found that none of them had sold out their inventory of Apple iPads by 5:00pm EDT; that is unlike past years when all of the stores would be reporting a sell out before the afternoon...

Ya I was really surprised. My AT&T store, we only sold 4 iPads. We received about 16. considering they are LTE models, most people buy Wi-Fi only.
23. QWIKSTRIKE (Posts: 801; Member since: 09 Mar 2010)
I would not buy a Tablet and pay for connection fees when I have a smart phone. I would buy a wifi tablet though. I calculated the price for a tablet plus subscription to a carrier is way more than buying it straight out.....subsidies for tablets are a "BIG" rip off, and smart people recognize this fact.

Apparently a lot of sheep woke up from a spell recently to explain why 90% of the country wasn't out throwing their money at Apple for no apparent reason

the photos say the opposite. And one thing is a Apple website and a website with apple news.

Is it true?
Have the sheep finally waken up?
I'm going to assume so, and congratulate all Apple fans for becoming intelligent consumers. *sheds a tear*
On a side note, I want to know how many of those people standing in lines were actually planted there to create hype?
Sad enough they sent the friggin co-founder out there to stand in line to hype up the nerds.
45. lubba (Posts: 1310; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
The UI and UX hasn't changed in 3-4 years. Expecting people to by the same ol same ol with just minor tweaks. I don't expect the scheep nerds and tech media to change any knowing even a little fart from apple they'll sniff the air clean of the stench but those that believe in them are starting to fallow other bells. But it is pathetic though trying to hype up a product by putting out news that the cofounder of Apple is the first standing in line to get the iPad. I just laugh! The worst though is stores paying people to stand inline. That just cracks me up! I swear, no other tech company is that low. Their rival Samsung has more pride.
54. ReturningToNokia (Posts: 130; Member since: 09 Jul 2011)
@lubba...Aren't you a WP fan/user? Whether you are or not, my point...
Does it matter if the UI has changed or not? The user experience is very key, and it seems to remain very enjoyable for iOS users.
58. lubba (Posts: 1310; Member since: 17 Jan 2011)
You're right on the UI experience part. Guess they do enjoy that same ol, same ol. For some though, they like bold change and yet don't have to creat pathetic hype to look good.
39. akhi216 (Posts: 61; Member since: 01 May 2011)
Do you have to hold the iPad a certain way to get LTE to work?

Its hilarious how people come on here and call them sheep but in turn say I'm not buying anything until the sgs3 comes out. Isn't that the exact same thing? Don't get mad at someone because they line up for apple products. Its their money, let em do what they want. For the record, Samsung has released about 10 versions of sgs2 within a few months but y'all claim only apple does it. Please tell me the difference in the sgs2, skyrocket, note, and soon to be skyrocket HD I believe. I'll wait!!! Who's really the sheep and I own a note so no bias here.
50. parkwaydr (Posts: 572; Member since: 07 Sep 2011)
It's all the sgs2, it just depends on what carrier its on, for instance sprints version is technically the epic touch.
53. Tre-Nitty (Posts: 460; Member since: 16 Nov 2010)
That's my point. Its the same phone over and over. The sgsIII will look just like but the Samsung fans will ooze over a minor upgrade and claim how great Samsung is. As stated I have the note and its pretty bad on lag and web browsing. May be a defect but either way its junk right now. Just saying that people should let people love apple if that's what they want.
55. parkwaydr (Posts: 572; Member since: 07 Sep 2011)
Ok, ill put it this way, they don't re release the same phone over and over, they release the same phone, and CARRIERS chose to name it differently, the reason people dog on Apple is because the iPhone 4s and the original iPhone are almost the same exact phones, with some very minor updates

I just proved my point. Y'all rushed in here to try and show how different the gs1,2,3 are different they are and it is very minor tweaks. Looks me like y'all are the sheep trying to defend Samsung.
86. markhsu (Posts: 15; Member since: 17 Mar 2012)
Yes only in another world are increased mobile data speeds and increased screen sizes and UI overhauls minor tweaks.
92. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
i dont know what world you are living in. But the SGS1 and 2 have a 100%+ power increase, double the battery life WITHOUT throwing in a massive battery ALA "new ipad", a big screen increase, a substantial increase in both screen tech and pixel density, more RAM, much more internal memory, camera, thinness, on and on and on.
The SGS3 is rumored to upgrade all those specs and add another 100% power increase if its the quadcore 4212.
The first and ONLY substantial increase for the iphone was going from the 4 to the 4s ONLY because it went from a single core to a dual core... even though they clocked down the chip.
It went from 600mhz, to 660mhz, to 1ghz, then to 800mhz dual core.
the only reason the "new" ipad got a memory increase was to handle the increased bandwith from the new screen.. that absolutely no one can even tell is on there, if you believe all those "tests" flying around.
people dont buy apple products for the latest tech, they buy it for simplicity "aka i dont want options" and status "aka im a sheeple". Thats a good thing though, because apple doesnt deliver the latest tech.. pretty much ever.

Are...are you stupid? Typical iDiot. Even when presented with hard evidence that disproves their asinine claims, instead of admitting they were wrong they stick their hooves in their ears and bleat their loudest.
"BAAAAAAH!" "BAAAAAAH!" "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

@Tre-Nitty - you do realize saying any negative about Android on this site is going to cause all those sheep in Android's clothing to come out & hiss at you reason's why their behavior is not the same as those numerous eye-Sheep.
Every company does minor tweaks to their line of phones. RIM does it, so does Motorola, HTC (absolutely does it), Apple does it & yes so does Sammy. people on this site will deny this reality for any manufacturer (except for Apple) until they are blue in the face even though the proof is there for us all to see.
76. joaolx (Posts: 336; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
You think the size of the screen is an update? Maybe for some people but ok. Just because it has the same size it's the same phone? And 4G is because it's a battery drainer, apple isn't gonna release a device with less battery capacity, for some reason this new iPad has a huge battery. That's my opinion. And what's yours about the huge variety of samsung phones and some with same hardware, except screen or 4G,and the fact that samsung is releasing way too many android phones? By the way don't start saying i only like apple and that i'm an sheep(, or whatever) because I respect samsung. If i had the choice between iPhone 4s and SGS2, definitely SGS2. (SGS didn't had 4G, only their variants later released, and for SGS2 also, if i'm not mistaken).
98. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
yea, except with every new galaxy device comes not only a bigger screen, but new and improved screen tech. They reduce batttery usage and get longer life out of similar sized batteries. They dont need gargantuan batteries like apple does. Its good to actually make the tech and know how to optimize it.
Lets look at all the things apple actually made for their iOS devices, techwise...
Yup.. there it was.. did you see it??
Without all these android manufacturers being so willing to lend a hand to apple and sell them their tech, apple wouldnt have an iDevice for you to drool over. Amazing how ungrateful Apple is. They want everyone to serve the shiny fruit, not compete.
100. Mandroid (Posts: 209; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
"You think the size of the screen is an update?"
Yes? Also how about a better processor, expandable memory, better camera, increased functionality, new OS, 4G, HDMI capability, HD video, AMOLED screen, shall I go on?
80. joaolx (Posts: 336; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
It doesn't matter if it's on different carriers, it's samsung who makes them.
111. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
they differentiate at the carrier's request. for better or worse, apple is the only one that gets away with doing what THEY want with the phone. Everyone else has to bow to carrier demands.
57. DigitalJedi_X2 (banned) (Posts: 346; Member since: 30 Jan 2012)
If you do in fact own a note then you should know the difference. The note is larger, has a slightly faster processor, a better screen, a larger battery, . Then you have the S-Pen which is the real selling point of the note. Again, if you do indeed have a note as you say, then you should know how niiiiiiiiiice the S-Pen is. Especially if you're in to taking pictures. The S-Pen tech alone makes the Note a totally different device.
And you say your Note has a lag problem, must be you have a defective handset because my brother has the Note and
I've seen no lag whatsoever on it. Neither has he. And he's a guy who was very skeptical of Android until get got the Note.
77. Tre-Nitty (Posts: 460; Member since: 16 Nov 2010)
Lmao, the s-pen isn't the selling point. Its pointless. The selling point is the 5.3 inch HD screen and that its basically a phone/tablet in one. If you or anyone bought the note for the s-pen your definitely brainwashed by Samsung. The note has a weak dual core processor compared to exynos. Yes i know its for LTE purposes. This is a big azz gs2 no matter how you look at it. Just like the skyrocket.
81. joaolx (Posts: 336; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
You can make a pen for smartphones and tablets with stuff you have around the house. The difference is that is a high quality pen, because you can also buy pens.
62. frydaexiii (Posts: 1157; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
Yes, the Skyrocket, Note and Skyrocket HD are all just the SGS2 with minor tweaks, but here's the thing, people who bought the SGS2 are not stupid enough to throw away their current phone just to go for the Skyrocket or Note. And second, it didn't take Samsung 1 Year+ to release these minor-ly tweaked SGS2s.
As for not buying until SGS3 is out. Look at the SGS, then at the SGS2 and now go read the rumor roundup article for the SGS3. For one, they are not minor tweaks, you can already see quite a huge difference in design between the SGS and the SGS2 (But just enough to be able to tell the SGS2 is a upgraded model of the SGS). Now look at the iPhone 1 all the way to the iPhone 4S, looking from the front you can hardly tell the difference between the iPhone 1 to the 3G and 3GS, nor the difference between the iPhone 4 and the 4S.
The reason fandroids like me are hype up over the SGS3 is because it's not just a minor tweak like the Skyrocket, it's a whole new design (with a hint of the old one).
82. joaolx (Posts: 336; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
Then look at iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. Do you guys seriously think that because it has the same design and screen it's the same phone. That is your problem. Of course no one is going to buy the skyrocket if they have SGS2. Update from i4 to i4S is as reasonable has upgrading from SGS to SGS2, so stop making stupid comments about "minor updates", when in reality are true updates. And the way the phone looks doesn't matter where i live, but the way it works, design would matter if older models were ugly or outdated but if they still look good and have a premium feel, then there is no problem. And you guys call us "sheeps" and say were blinded by apple. What about you, who's gonna deny you all are also blinded by other companies?
102. Whateverman (Posts: 3158; Member since: 17 May 2009)
@ joaolx- Oh, you were being serious??? Wow!
109. frydaexiii (Posts: 1157; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
You want to know why you idiots think the iPhone 4S is a major upgrade from the iPhone 4? Because it took Apple one whole friggin year and a few months to come up with it! Like it or not you Apple people are forced to believe it's the best because it's the latest by Apple.
If Samsung had released the Skyrocket now as the SGS3, no doubt all the fandroids would rage, but at least we have other companies to fall back on like HTC or Sony, you guys don't, that's why you still believe a beta voice assistant and a dual core processor which does no good for the 4S are a major upgrade
The iPhone 4S to the iPhone 4 is what the Skyrocket is to the SGS2, what the SGS+ is to the SGS. Just one look at the 4S and you can tell the "innovative people" at Apple took 5 minutes to settle on the updates and spent the rest of their time counting the money that the sheep gave them.
79. joaolx (Posts: 336; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
True story. Totally agree with you. (Despite the fact you exaggerated in the amount of versions of SGS2 released per month xD)
48. gallitoking (Posts: 4630; Member since: 17 May 2011)
Ok wait and see when Apple releases the sales figure and the backpedaling will begin .. disputing numbers.. sources.. every year same excuse...
61. Mandroid (Posts: 209; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
OK, I realize you are a severely retarded man, but even you should know this. If they couldn't even move through half their stock, the f*** makes you think all of a sudden there will be a huge demand for the ipad 2.000000001? It failed, most of you drones opened your dull cow eyes and realized it just wasnt worth it. Nice spin, drone.
So you are seriously trying to tell us that every source who reported the ipad 2.0000000000001s FAILURE was lying? Holy s*** are you deluded. VERY sad. And you got some steve on your chin there guy.
65. parkwaydr (Posts: 572; Member since: 07 Sep 2011)
LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Steve on your chin!!!! That is by far the funniest thing I have ever read on pa........1 million thumbs up
85. gallitoking (Posts: 4630; Member since: 17 May 2011)
Mandrone you are a lucky man.. you managed to be dumb and stupid.... at the same time congrats.... is only launch day and too early to be considered a failure.... second.. Apple was better prepared this time as the have more inventory available... an Android tablet doesnt move half of what Apple moved today in tablets... are all those failures... yes if we go by your dumb @ss standards.... do yourself a favor and dont reply... as you will only sound dumber
87. Mandroid (Posts: 209; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
1. Who is this 'Mandrone'?
2. Oh I get it, being an iDiot you don't have an ounce of creativity in you, so you switched my name to 'Mandrone'. Brilliant!
3. OK not really.
4. Launch day is HIGHLY indicative (BIG word, I know, Google it and ask an adult for help) of a products success. uh-DUUUUHH
5. You're the last person to be calling folks out for sounding "dumber". Tell ya what, champ, sling an actual sentence together then we'll talk.......o.......k...?
6. Shut up and die, you f***ing cretin.
93. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
Launch weekend is a huge indicator, as it is normally the highest sales weekend for a device (unless there is some crazy sale going on).
Yea, they had extra stock on hand, but according to early charts, they are still selling LESS than previous models did with their limited inventory. That is not a good thing.
Has apple finally hit their peak and started their downturn? Its too early to tell. I wil say that if this really does stay a flop (in iOS sales terms), and the i5 doesnt catch fire, it will be the beginning of the end for Apple's dominance. Of course, they havent actually dominated in a long time, with apple taking only half of the market that android has.. and android at 49% of the tablet market last month... its only a month or so away from becoming an android tablet market.
94. Mandroid (Posts: 209; Member since: 22 Feb 2012)
You're wasting your time. he has a throat full of steve and nothing apple ever does can be wrong. Very sad. This is why blatant fanboyism is a bad thing, kids. You end up looking and sounding just as stupid as the chickentard.
104. gallitoking (Posts: 4630; Member since: 17 May 2011)
Android rarely have big launch days... so thats means Android sucks at selling.. the Droid Maxx didnt sold well at first and now is out of stock.. so please dont be idiots... ok I will die now.. lol wow the nerve of the mandrone lol
112. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
if the iphone had competition in the iOS space with other iOS devices of different shapes and sizes, it wouldnt have huge launch days either. The only reason it does is because there is only 1 new device a year. If there were 20, it wouldnt be such a big deal. So thats a non-sequitur. try again. :)
114. gallitoking (Posts: 4630; Member since: 17 May 2011)
If you talk about seling being released once a year with upgraded specs bla bla.. doesnt matter in the out worlds.. 1 will always equals 1.. Apple will sell millions of the new ipad... doesnt matter if it is on day one.. week one.. or year one...
119. remixfa (Posts: 13902; Member since: 19 Dec 2008)
your right.. 1 will always equal 1. and in the real world, android is outselling apple 2 to 1 and above. of course, you hold dearly to that "apple is the #1 selling device" matra, all you want. In the end, it helps you sleep well at night. But back in the real world it doesnt mean squat.
51. ReturningToNokia (Posts: 130; Member since: 09 Jul 2011)
At the end of the day, whether there is stock still in stores or not, the new iPad will have sold more than all Android OEM tablet makers combined - not just this weekend, but for months to come.
Tech sites gave good advice - if you have an iPad 2, there's no need to get a new iPad; and if you have the original iPad or don't have an iPad and want one, the new iPad would be a nice purchase.
The new iPad will continue to sell, in droves, over the next 12 months; and once the price drops to make room for the 4th iteration, it will sell even more.
It is simply a device that many people want; not sure why posters on various sites want to downplay or disparage consumers or the iPad because of it.
68. android_sucks (Posts: 111; Member since: 28 Jul 2011)
Hmmmm....reminds me of the Verizon Iphone launch. LOL!!!!
96. roscuthiii (Posts: 1717; Member since: 18 Jul 2010)
This not true! That's un-possible!!! The RDF was bound to pop sooner or later I guess.
I hope sales of the iPad 3 (or New iPad, or iPad 2S, iPad 2 HD, etc.) are somewhat lackluster. Not because I'm some troll pleasuring myself over some perceived momentous Apple loss, but because you can sure as hell bet if they are that the next iteration will be way more competitive. And with that, the Apple competitors only get pushed even harder to do better.
That's what makes the industry competitive... this constant one-upping. Otherwise it'd be stagnant & unremarkable.
It's the fluctuation and the chaos that spurs life; the same could happen to their stocks if they don't get a little more up and down. The market works on buy low, sell high. Apple's stock has been higher n' higher. Good for the short term, but not in the long run as fewer and fewer will be able to afford the stock.

They finally realize it's the same thing only thing difference is the RETINA DISPLAY. and that's what its going to looking like on their 4th and 5th Ipad gen
103. CRICKETownz (Posts: 980; Member since: 24 Oct 2009)
i think b/c most people go for the Wifi only models its not that big of a deal. i've sold maybe 7 total since launch. only 3 of those opted for the LTE plan. the difference between the iPad2 launch and the new iPad launch is that these devices are, for the most part, identical. coming from the iPad 1 there was at least some major hardware differences w/the iPad2 offering (size/weight, cameras, display) but w/the new iPad there's not enough differences.
113. nerdlemon888 (Posts: 2; Member since: 18 Mar 2012)
I believe that what will end up becoming the Achilles's heel of the new iPad is its FAIL front-facing camera.
YAY! Facetime in HD!!!! (Sarcasam)
